that's what my husband said last year. Maybe not the absolute best, but 100% one of the best. During my first trip to Thailand back in 2015, I went elephant riding. Now, of course, I regret it. I wasn't as mindful back then, so please understand and forgive me. Last year, while looking for a place to see elephants, we stumbled upon Patong Care Elephant. Here, you can feed, wash, and hug the elephants, but absolutely no riding. The way the staff treats the animals brings up nothing but the most positive emotions. That's why we wanted to visit again this time. The feelings are exactly the same. The elephants are magnificent. An important detail. From what we found out last year, these elephants were rescued from animal abusers. Yes, they know how to hug you with their trunks and they still do. But! Here, they roam freely. They are no longer bound by iron chains. The sanctuary itself is also really nice. There’s no time limit on how long you can stay. No one rushes you. For feeding, they give you a large tub filled with sugarcane, corn, cucumbers, and bananas. When we ran out of elephant food, the staff even offered us more. There's also a shaded rest area with a fan and swings. After feeding the elephants, visitors are treated to watermelon and mango. They also offer water and give out elephant-shaped keychains as gifts. All in all, I genuinely only have the most positive memories here. Admission is 1,000 baht per person.

The temple's white, shimmering peaks are visible from the highway and make your heart beat faster with delight. We spend 1.5 hours exploring, and then we continue on. · An equally beautiful and colorful place, half an hour's drive from the White Temple, is the Blue Temple. It is stunningly beautiful and unusual. The photos here are stunning, especially against the backdrop of the Pearl Buddha. You have a full 1.5 hours to explore and photograph the temple from the inside and outside. Having had our fill of the beauty, we move on to the final destination of our journey – the Golden Triangle, located at the confluence of three countries: Thailand, Laos, and Myanmar. Here, not only will we explore, but we'll also enjoy a delicious and nutritious buffet lunch. We had a quick lunch because another stunning island, Phi Phi Don, awaited us next. The scenery here is so stunning it's breathtaking. After exploring to our heart's content, we boarded the boat and sped home. The sun sets early in Asia, so we needed to get to Phuket before it was completely dark. On the way, we were greeted by a stunning sunset, a completely calm sea, and a complete storm in our souls from the beauty of the place we'd seen. At 6:00 PM, I boarded the transfer to my hotel. METADEE CONCEPT HOTEL 5*, Phuket (Kata Beach) During my trip to Phuket, I checked out the Metadee Concept 5* hotel, and honestly, it left a very pleasant impression. Long story short, for the price, it's one of the best options in Kata. There is, of course, a small catch, but let's take it step by step. 🌿 The main plus is the atmosphere. The hotel is tucked slightly away from the main road, making the grounds very peaceful and quiet. Yet, as soon as you step out of the gates, life is bustling: cafes, restaurants, massage parlors, shops, pharmacies, and currency exchanges. Everything is right at your fingertips. The Wi-Fi works perfectly, which is definitely a big deal these days. 💳 A deposit of 200 USD is required upon check-in for the entire stay. 🚭 Smoking is only allowed in designated areas. Smoking on balconies is strictly prohibited. THE GROUNDS The property is quite large and divided into two sections. 🌴 The first is the Villas section. This is the older part, featuring two-story buildings and villas. … and let me tell you right away: "old" doesn't mean bad. Quite the opposite! This part is incredibly lush and green. With frangipani trees everywhere, there’s plenty of shade, tranquility, and the vibe of a true tropical garden. The atmosphere here was my absolute favorite. 💦 A long pool weaves through the buildings, making for a lovely shaded swim. 🌴 The second part is Elite Concept, which opened in 2023. This area features modern 6-to-8-story buildings with much more spacious rooms. The standout feature here is the massive lagoon pools wrapping around almost every building. Essentially, the entire new section is just one giant pool you can swim along for ages. Guests from both sections are free to use all the facilities without any restrictions. 🛝 For the little ones, there’s a separate children’s pool with a small slide and water features. Between the two zones, you’ll find: ✔️ A kids' playroom ✔️ A fitness center Up on the roof, there’s a beautiful bar and restaurant offering panoramic views. The SPA is nestled in the green, older section of the hotel. 🏖 THE BEACH Now, here is the one thing you should keep in mind. Kata Beach is about 1 kilometer away. For some, this is no issue at all, but if you’re dreaming of stepping right out of your room onto the sand, this isn’t the spot for you. The hotel does offer a free shuttle three times a day. Otherwise, you can catch a buggy ride to the main road, leaving you with about a 700-meter walk to the beach. Personally, I really love Kata Beach: 🏝 It’s wide. 🌊 It has a gentle, gradual entry into the water. 👨👩👧👦 It’s absolutely perfect for families with kids. Just a heads-up: during a strong low tide, you might have to walk about 150 meters to reach deeper water. Renting two sun loungers and an umbrella costs around 200 THB per day. The area around the beach is also very well-developed, with plenty of cafes, shops, fresh fruit stalls, and even a small park. 🛏 ROOMS I got to see a few different room categories. The Deluxe rooms are located in the older section. Sure, the interior style leans a bit more classic, but the rooms look neat, well-maintained, and don't feel "dated" at all. The Junior Suites are located in the new section. When I was in Thailand, Cambodia wasn't even part of my itinerary, it was supposed to be just a quick trip across the border. A few hours after leaving Thailand, everything felt different: roads, architecture, atmosphere and even the pace of life. Cambodia isn't as polished as Thailand—and that's exactly what makes it so fascinating. 💡 Interesting fact: Cambodia is home to Angkor Wat, the largest religious monument in the world. The temple is so important to the country that it even appears on the Cambodian flag. 🚍 Getting there is easier than you think If you're staying in Pattaya, Cambodia is only a few hours away. Most people cross through the Poipet border, either on an organized tour or independently. The drive usually takes 3–4 hours, depending on traffic and the border crossing. If you're traveling from Bangkok, buses and minivans leave throughout the day. From Phuket, Krabi or Koh Samui, flying to Siem Reap (usually via Bangkok) is the most convenient option. 💡 If you're crossing the border on your own, try to leave early in the morning. The queues are usually much shorter. 🛕 Angkor Wat is even more incredible than you imagine We've all seen the photos, but standing in front of Angkor Wat is something completely different. What amazed me most wasn't its size… it was the history. The temple was built in the 12th century, when the Khmer Empire was one of the most powerful civilizations in Southeast Asia. Originally dedicated to the Hindu god Vishnu, it later became a Buddhist temple and remains the largest religious monument in the world. What's even more impressive is that the entire Angkor complex covers more than 400 km². This isn't just one temple, it's an entire ancient city hidden among the jungle. Don't stop at Angkor Wat and also visit: 🌿 Ta Prohm — where enormous tree roots seem to swallow the ruins. You might recognize it from the movie Tomb Raider. 😊 Bayon Temple — famous for its hundreds of giant stone faces that seem to follow you wherever you walk. 💡 A few local tips 🌅 Sunrise at Angkor Wat is famous... but so is the crowd. If you don't mind skipping sunrise, arrive around 8:30–9:00 AM. Most tour groups have already moved on, and you'll enjoy the temples much more peacefully. 🧣 Carry a light scarf or thin shirt. Even if it's 35°C outside, you'll need to cover your shoulders when entering some temples. 🥤 Freeze a bottle of water the night before. By midday, the temperature can easily exceed 35°C, and cold drinks inside the archaeological park are more expensive. 📱 Buy an eSIM before crossing the border. Mobile internet is inexpensive in Cambodia, and having navigation available immediately makes the trip much easier. 🎒 Start exploring from the temples farthest away. Most tour buses follow the same route, so reversing the order often means fewer crowds and better photos. 🚖 The best way to explore The easiest way to see Angkor is by hiring a tuk-tuk driver for the day.
