Airport Core Programme Exhibition Centre
The Airport Core Programme Exhibition Centre (Airport Core Programme Exhibition Centre) is located at 401, Castle Peak Road, Ting Kau, Ting Kau, New Territories, Hong Kong. It is an exhibition hall with the theme of "Hong Kong Airport Core Programme". It was opened in 1996 and is managed and operated by the New Airport Engineering Coordination Office. After the department was disbanded in 1998, the exhibition centre was handed over to the Tsuen Wan District Office of the Home Affairs Department for management.
The original site of the Airport Core Programme Exhibition Centre was Homi Villa. The villa, also known as the White House, was built by Indian businessman J. H. Ruttonjee in the early 1930s. At that time, the Hong Kong Brewery Company Limited (now known as the San Miguel Brewery Company Limited) built Hong Kong's first brewery in Sham Tseng and built the White House as a villa. It was later purchased by the Hong Kong government and converted into a dormitory for Hong Kong civil servants.[1] Financial Secretary John Hamidon once lived in the villa since 1973.[2]
Due to the historical value of the building and its geographical location overlooking the Tsing Ma Bridge and Ma Wan Channel, the White House was converted into an exhibition center by the relevant Hong Kong government departments in 1995 to introduce the "Hong Kong Airport Core Plan" and opened in early 1996. The Antiquities Advisory Board confirmed the White Building as a Grade 3 historic building on January 22, 2010.
The building was included in the list of the sixth phase of the "Revitalising Historic Buildings Through Partnership Scheme" at the end of 2019, for interested non-profit organisations to provide services or operate businesses. The results of the project review will be announced in June 2022, and the National History Education Centre (Hong Kong) will be responsible for revitalizing the White Building. The institution will set up a history learning center named "Youyou Pavilion" and said that it will be closed for 15 months for renovation. After completion, it will be open to the public for free.
