Butterfly Spring was named as the spring rises to form a pool which was shaped by the dense leaves. Above the pool there is an ancient tree known as the Butterfly Tree, because its fragrant blossom attracts thousands of butterflies in the short interval of spring turns to summer. These colorful creatures fly around the pool and settle on the tree in great clusters as they sip the nectar from the blossoms. This spectacular sight has given rise to a local festival when Bai people gather around the tree on 15 April for the Butterfly Meet. If you find yourself with some free time in Dali, a visit to Butterfly Spring is a must. While it's not an extensive park, you can comfortably explore it in 3-4 hours. Although there are electric cars available for convenience, we opted to stroll through the park on foot since it's quite manageable. 
A delightful experience awaits you with the local aunties offering costume rentals at a mere 1 SGD. These traditional outfits are easy to wear, and the friendly aunties will help you dress right over your clothes. Given the affordability and the aunties' charming demeanor, we chose to make an additional donation beyond the rental fee.

It was a very slow day so the vendors were little more aggressive in trying to sell their services. Overall the park could use some updating. The spring itself was interesting but I wasn’t impressed with all the manmade attractions in this area. It’s worth a quick trip to see the spring and walk around the lake.

Lover's Lake is a pond of water accumulated from the stream flowing out of Butterfly Spring, with clear and transparent water quality. Dali Butterfly Spring has created various internet-famous spots for tourists, and the first picture is their work, which is obviously a great place for taking photos. At Lover's Lake, we encountered a pair of black swans, which was very appropriate for the setting. The water features here are nice everywhere, making for great photo opportunities.
