The boats can only be rented during summer and are a bit overpriced 😅 It’s worth it though 🛶 2. Lago di Braies: Due to the easy accessibility the lake gets very crowded throughout the day. Either visit early in the morning or before sunset to avoid the crowds 💦 3. Tre Cime di Lavaredo - Basic Hike: Park at Rifugio Auronzo (quite expensive) and walk around the 3 peaks (beginner friendly) 🥾 4. Cave at Tre Cime di Lavaredo: Start the basic hike and go to Dreizinnenhütte. Behind it you can already see the caves. The hike takes very long and depending on the season it can be easy or difficult (we went in May with melting snow and it took 12 hours) 😅 5. Alpe di Siusi: You can only drive up by car if you book a hotel. Otherwise you need to take the cable car 🚠 There are different ones but our favorite is the one from St. Ulrich. 6. Malga Sanon at Alpe di Siusi: Don‘t miss this restaurant with the cute lookout at Alpe di Siusi ❤️ 7. The Restaurant also has a swing with an amazing view 🥹 8. From the parking lot, look for the starting point and walk towards Tre Cime. At the entrance, look for the sign for Trail 117 and turn right, following the sign. The first part is downhill; follow the sign for Trail 117. After that, the path is quite steep and narrow, requiring caution. However, it's not too difficult for anyone. We brought our children and managed to walk there. It took about an hour and a half, including photo opportunities, to reach the destination. It's a very beautiful photo spot. #europeonbudget If you are looking to hike the Dolomites, a good option is to stay at Rifugios which offer affordable accommodation for hikers and are often located directly on the hiking trails. Most Rifugios provide the option of dinner (generally under 15 EUR) and cost about 40-70 EUR a night. Do note that they should be booked months in advance (e.g. January for a summer trip) as spaces are limited and fill up quickly. At Lagazuoi, a good option is to hike through the historic WW1 tunnels up to Rifugio Lagazuoi and stay there for the night. The cable car is also an option if you have a lot of baggage, but costs 30 EUR (return) whereas the tunnels are free. Do note that you will need safety equipment (helmets, headlights) for the tunnels as they are very dark. The path is fairly easy as there are handrails but can be slippery in rain.
