Zhang Baozai
Cheung Chau is a famous tourist attraction in Hong Kong with many sightseeing spots, such as Cheung Po Tsai Cave, Cheung Chau Pak Tai Temple and Cheung Chau Rock Carvings.
Zhang Baozai Cave is a cave where Zhang Baozai, a famous pirate from Guangdong, is said to have collected some treasures. Most of them are located in the waters off Guangdong and the outlying islands of Hong Kong.
The most representative festival of Cheung Chau is the "Taiping Ching Jiao". Its origin can be traced back to the middle of the Qing Dynasty when a plague broke out on Cheung Chau Island. The residents on the island were infected and some even died. Therefore, a charity meeting was held at the Pak Tai Temple in Cheung Chau and people fasted for three days to show respect. Only then did the plague disappear.
Another theory is that the Tai Ping Qing Jiao originated from Tai Ping Shan Street on Hong Kong Island. Because of the plague in the area near Tai Ping Shan Street, a resident of Hailufeng moved the Pak Tai worshipped in his home to the street. After people burned incense and prayed for blessings, the plague soon subsided. Since then, residents have held the Jiao Festival on Tai Ping Shan Street every year. Later, the Hong Kong government prohibited residents from holding the festival on Tai Ping Shan Street to prevent fire. Residents then moved the Jiao Festival to Cheung Chau, where the Hailufeng people lived, to maintain the annual tradition.
The most representative auspicious item of the "Taiping Qingjiao" is the "Ping An Bao", which is made of sacrificial "Ghost Bao" and is used to worship gods and ward off wandering ghosts. The residents of the island believe that eating buns can ensure safety, so they are called Ping An Bao. This is the origin of the Ping An Bao.
If you walk towards the beach, you will pass by this love lock on the way. Some people say that after seeing the Love Bridge in Paris, they will feel that other love locks are very fake. Although I feel the same way, the fact is that not everyone has the opportunity to go to Paris. Cheung Chau is a place where most young men and women in Hong Kong, especially those in their youth and student days, remember the love memories. Looking at the words written on those love locks or heart-shaped cards, every city needs a place of love memories. My impression is that the Love Lock in Cheung Chau is the place with the most love locks in Hong Kong.
Finally, let’s talk about seafood. Cheung Chau seafood is considered one of the recommended places to eat seafood in Hong Kong.
