There are quite a few good attractions near Tokyo🙈 Enoshima is quite good And you can buy one-day passes in Tokyo🤪 Transportation is quite convenient🥹 If you want to plan a half-day trip, then this place is perfect👍🏻 Enoshima is actually quite big😚 It has an observation deck restaurant and a shrine⛩️ And at the end of the island is a nice natural attraction😝 Transportation from Tokyo to Enoshima From Shinjuku by Odakyu is about 1 hour ❤️ Take Enoshima to Enoshima Station is already 🙈 Enoshima Iwaya is actually the innermost part of Enoshima🙈 If you walk from Enoshima Station, it will take about 20 minutes🤪 Winter walk will be quite cold, but the scenery on the way is very nice ❤️ The temperature in winter rock house can go to 0 degrees 😅 so it is quite cold The rock house actually has a great background. The Enoshima Iwaya Caves have been created by coastal erosion for eons of time. It consists of two caves: Daiichi-iwaya (first cave) of 152 meters and Daini-iwaya (second cave) of 56 meters in length. The caves had been closed for years but reopened in 1993 after the renovations of the facilities around the caves. Having been worshiped since ancient times the legends goes that Kukai (Kobo-Daishi, the founder of Shingon Buddhism) and Minamoto no Yoritomo who founded the Kamakura shogunate visited. The insides of these caves with illuminations and sound effects, stone statues and various exhibits tell us the history and culture of Enoshima Island. You can borrow candles inside the Daiichi cave (may not be available when the cave is too crowded) . From open space, stretching 128 meters in length, you can enjoy the vista of Mount Fuji stretching from Sagami Bay, Hakone and the Izu Peninsula. Worried that the elderly might find it difficult to walk around Enoshima, I did some research beforehand and decided to use escalators for the entire uphill journey. At the entrance, I purchased the Enoshima 1-Day Pass for 1,100 yen per adult, which allows unlimited access to the Enoshima escalators, the Enoshima Sea Candle lighthouse, and the Iwaya Caves. There are plenty of attractions along the way. On the path to the Ryuren no Kane (Lovers’ Bell), I encountered a raccoon dog that seems to have been living there for a long time and occasionally comes out to greet visitors. Although the first part of the journey uphill is assisted by escalators, the path to the caves is a round trip on foot. The way there involves going downhill, while the return trip is uphill, so it’s important to assess your physical condition. If it feels too challenging, there are many restaurants nearby where you can take a break and enjoy Enoshima’s famous whitebait dishes. Upon reaching the interior of the caves, each visitor is given a candle, instantly enhancing the atmosphere. The candle features a dragon design, as the caves are dedicated to the worship of the dragon deity. You can return the candle before exiting the caves.

The other day, I went to a Japanese restaurant on the cliffs of Enoshima! The restaurant overlooks the ocean, and the view is simply amazing. I was able to spend a relaxing time feeling the pleasant sea breeze. All of the dishes were carefully prepared, and the Japanese cuisine made with seasonal ingredients was delicious. The sashimi in particular was fresh and exquisite! I felt like I was in luxury as I ate it while looking out at the sea. It was a wonderful restaurant that was perfect for a break between sightseeing, and made me feel a little special. If you go to Enoshima, this is a spot you should definitely stop by! The chopped conch and egg, the taste of the stock and the aroma of the ocean are irresistible. The winter sun is surprisingly blinding, so on sunny days, be sure to sit on the terrace and enjoy the view of Mount Fuji and Sagami Bay alone.

#japantrip This was an interesting find that I didn’t know about. It’s a really unique experience that I enjoyed. Some parts are dark so they let you borrow a light. Also be aware that some parts are low so you might have to squat down. There’s all sorts of artifacts to see inside so check it out if you’re in the area.Very fascinating experience, it makes planning a trip to Enoshima Island definitely recommended as it is the highlight of the island for sure. The cliffside infront of the cave alone is worth coming here. There are two caves, lined with history exhibitions, the mandatory shrines inside, one of which is a dragon that growls when you clap. In one cave you get a cute handheld lantern and in the other are beautiful lanterns. The path between the caves had a part with cute chimes.

It's a small cave but still worth to pay a visit. I enjoy the walkway with candles on the sides. There's a booth where you can rent a candle but i dont think it's needed. It's not really too dark inside. In the 2nd cave, you'll see a dragon with sound effects. I wasnt impressed by that but the folktale about it is cool so that can be interesting for some people. I advise you visit the cave and be the judge. But overall, it was okay. In 2024 I wish to visit this place again. #2024wish

If you walk all the way from Enoshima Shrine, you will reach the cave. It is divided into Cave No. 1 and Cave No. 2, with Cave No. 1 being 152m long and Cave No. 2 being 56m long!
