Another place to visit when you are at the Goryokaku Fort you have to visit the Goryokaku Tower which is a 90 metre Tower overlooking the entire Fort. The entrance fee includes admission into the Tower, but the queue might be long to go up into the Tower but its worth the wait. The price admission may be expensive but it gets cheaper if you go with 30 people or more and the view above is breathtaking where you will be able to get a view of the pentagonal park and at the far end you be able to see the mount hakodate(provided weather is clear). Goryōkaku Park was one of those places that surprised me with its beauty and calm. I had seen photos of the star-shaped fort before arriving, but walking through it in person—especially in the early morning—was something else. There’s a peacefulness in the way the paths wind around the moats, with tall trees lining both sides. It felt more like a quiet forest walk than a historical site at times. I visited during summer, so the cherry blossoms were long gone, but the greenery was lush and the wide-open spaces made it feel airy and relaxing. I took my time walking the perimeter, occasionally stopping at benches just to soak in the view. The water in the moat was so still it looked like glass, reflecting the trees and sky perfectly. Climbing up the Goryōkaku Tower was worth it. That’s when the full star shape really comes to life—it’s hard to appreciate the design from the ground. Hakodate is the highlight of this Hokkaido trip. All the attractions are even better than in the photos. It is amazing! I highly recommend the night view of Mt. Hakodate, Kanemori Warehouse, and Goryokaku Park. Mt. Hakodate and Kanemori Warehouse can be planned together. The street view there is very beautiful and comfortable to walk. It is very suitable to spend a half day walking there. Especially the Lucky Clown Burger that you must not miss. It is super delicious and super easy to buy. I spent 8,000 yen there on the first day🤣. It’s a pity that the plane arrived at night that day. So there is no daytime street view. Otherwise, the red Kanemori Warehouse reflecting the sunset should be very beautiful. Goryokaku Park is also unexpectedly beautiful. Goryokaku Tower is a must-see. You can see the entire Hakodate city from the top. The view is excellent! You can also see the classic pentagram shape. There are a few pearls in Hakodate this time.
