Poetry of the sea and the warm sun | Guide to the healing journey of Taiwan's Green Island
Taiwan Green Island, formerly known as Huoshao Island, is located in the Pacific Ocean about 33 kilometers east of Taitung County, Taiwan. The island covers an area of 17.33 square kilometers and is an irregular quadrilateral. The highest point is Huoshao Mountain at an altitude of 280 meters. As a volcanic island, Green Island is composed of volcanic agglomerates, which have been weathered and eroded by sea water to form a unique coastal landscape with cliffs, plains and hills.
Day 1⃣: Wandering on the island, encountering humanity and nature
✅ Arrive at Green Island and start the electric motorcycle tour around the island
🛳Transportation: Take a boat from Taitung Fugang Fishing Port for about 1 hour (the "Green Island Star" express boat is recommended). After arriving at Nanliao Fishing Port, contact the B&B owner to pick up the electric motorcycle (rental fee is about NT$300-500 per day).
✨Equipment: Download offline maps in advance (the signal on the island is weak), and prepare sunscreen, water and sunglasses.
✅Wandering around the fishing village
✨Nanliao Old Street: Take photos and check in at the Rainbow House and the Retro Grocery Store. We recommend "Amei Ice Cream" (the taro flavor is a must-try).
✨Letter Trading Station: You can put letters into a wooden box and strangers will send them to you randomly (remember to write postcards in advance).
✅Exploration of volcanic rock landforms
✨Jiangjun Rock: It can be reached in 5 minutes on foot. The black volcanic rocks collide with the waves, interweaving a magnificent picture.
✨Pug Rock and Sleeping Beauty Rock: Green Island landmarks, the two huge rocks resemble cute pets and girls, and are even more beautiful when photographed under the sunset.
✅Chasing the sunset at sea
✨Route: Ride an electric scooter northwest along the Ring Road. We recommend the Horseshoe Bridge or Dabaisha Beach.
✨Tips: Sunset time is about 18:30 (depending on the season), and we happened to meet a couple who acted as "free" models for us for a while! 😆
✅Agang BBQ dinner
📍Address: No. 16, Neighborhood 1, Gongguan Village.
✨Must order: charcoal grilled squid, salt grilled hairtail fish, stir-fried pork with mountain bamboo shoots, about NT$500-800 per person.
Day 2⃣: Morning light on hot springs and in-depth tour around the island
✅Sunrise bath at Asahi Onsen
✨One of the only three underwater hot springs in the world, the water temperature is 54°C, divided into a public pool (free) and a paid pool (about NT$200 per person).
✨How to play: Take a hot spring bath in the morning to watch the sunrise, and enjoy it with boiled hot spring eggs (NT$10 per egg).
✅Chenxiang breakfast shop awakens your taste buds
✨Signature dishes: egg pancake (with crab stick), black tea latte, handmade steamed buns, about NT$80 per person.
✨Tips: Arrive before 7:30 to avoid queuing. The salty soy milk from Green Island Soy Milk next door is also worth a try.
✅Explore the secret places around the island
✨Route: Nanliao Fishing Port → Green Island Cultural Park → Guanyin Cave → Dabaisha → Green Island Lighthouse → Little Great Wall.
✨Recommended stopover points:
1⃣ Little Great Wall: An excellent viewing point overlooking the entire island, reachable in 20 minutes on foot.
2⃣ Blue Hole Secret: A natural cave in the eastern sea area, suitable for diving (professional coaches are required).
✅Practical tips
✨Accommodation recommendation:
1⃣Beachfront B&B: "Little Kenting" (sea view room about NT$2,500 per night).
2⃣Featured theme: "Green Island Story House" (old house renovation, listen to historical stories).
✨Safety Tips:
1⃣The speed limit for electric motorcycles is 25km/h, and lights must be turned on when riding at night.
2⃣Seasonal restrictions: Firefly season from April to June, peak season for blue tears from July to September (requires luck).
