Welcome to the provincial museum of Guizhou, located in Jinyang, Guangshan Lake District. It is conveniently located along a major road, slightly opposite the Guiyang international convention center. Entrance is free but an online booking is required as there are many people who go to visit the museum. The architect who designed this building definitely knows what he was doing, it’s amazing, very big and very colorful even on the outside confirming the Guizhou motto: Colorful Guizhou. There are various floors once you enter, each section dedicated to different displays. There is the history section, fossils section, clothing section, silverware section, art section, calligraphy section and a special one according to me, the children’s art section (where kids showcase their art) There are also a number of souvenir shops in level -1 where one can buy books, silverware, dyed fabrics all showing the history and culture of Guizhou. It’s quite an experience for history and culture lovers and there’s a lot to learn. Groups can organize a guide to help and introduce different sections of the museum, for individuals, one can get a gadget with prerecorded audio introducing everything in the museum. In 2008, hey decided to finally open it up to the public It covers an area of 7.1 ha and has a total construction area of 4.6 ha. More than 200,000 pieces of cultural relics and specimens are stored and displayed here. It got 7 galleries that featured different collections of curators. But the main collection featured on the museum are ethnic cultural relics. It got 4 floors plus basement. This particular showcase of different colorful Miao ethnic costumes are displayed on the 2nd floor hall, numbers Gallery 1 and 2 of the Guizhou Provincial Museum. Miao people is the biggest ethnic group in Guizhou province. We visited Guiyang in winter, while the weather was unfortunately cold and a bit snowy. Therefore it was good to find an attraction that was inside and was interesting. The museum is easiest to get to by taking the Metro and alighting at the International Conference Center. At the entrance, you need to scan the code and get a free digital ticket to enter. Once inside, you will learn about the history and culture of colorful Guizhou province. From the diverse people and their cultures and traditions, to prehistoric history and art. Continuing my trip in Guiyang, this time I stayed at the Novotel Guiyang Panjiang (Lincheng West Road Metro Station) in the Guanshanhu District, part of the Accor Group. Here's my experience and some interesting nearby attractions. 📍Location: - The hotel is located in Guiyang's new district, where the streets are noticeably wider than in the old town, and the buildings are more modern. - Just a few minutes' walk from the hotel is the Lincheng West Road Metro Station, making transportation very convenient. - It's also not far from Guiyang North Railway Station, just a 25-minute metro ride away. 🏨Hotel Environment: - The area around the hotel is mostly office buildings and research institutes, giving it a more commercial vibe, with some small shops along the streets. - The hotel entrance is quite grand, and the lobby, though not very high-ceilinged, is efficient—check-in was quick. - The hotel has a gym and a swimming pool, though I didn't use either. The pool was crowded that day, with many kids learning to swim. 🛏Room Facilities: - According to records, the hotel opened in 2015 and was renovated in 2018, but the rooms don’t seem to have been thoroughly updated—it still feels like an older hotel at its core. - I stayed in a suite, which was spacious at 70 square meters, with a large living room right at the entrance. However, there was only one bathroom. - While the room's hardware is a bit outdated and not in a modern style, cleanliness wasn’t an issue. - The mattress in the bedroom wasn’t great—too soft and lacking support. 🍽Breakfast: - The breakfast restaurant is on the second floor, with a large space and a nice environment. - On weekends and holidays, the breakfast hours are extended, which is great for late risers. However, if you go late, some dishes might not be replenished. The breakfast quality was fairly average. 🖼Nearby Attractions: - Just one metro stop away is Guanshanhu Park, perfect for an evening stroll after dinner, with many locals also out walking. - One more stop east is the Guizhou Provincial Museum, a must-visit in Guiyang. - Next to the museum is the Zongbao Yunshang Fangzhou Mall, which once housed the very photogenic Zhongshuge (Yunshang Fangzhou Branch). I managed to snap some photos before closing time—the design was impressive (see attached photo). Sadly, it recently closed down [Cry]. - The next day, I visited Qianling Mountain Park, about a 40-minute metro ride away. I’m so envious of Guiyang residents for having such a great park—and it’s free! - Besides hiking, the park is full of monkeys 🐵 (see last photo) and has a lake where you can go boating. The scenery is fantastic. - There’s even a Qianling Mountain Zoo inside the park—it’s a real gem. I highly recommend visiting if you’re in Guiyang. The location is great, the rooms are spacious, and the prices are reasonable, making it a good value option in Guiyang’s new district.

Four days and three nights in Guizhou Province is not enough to explore everything. With limited time, we stayed in Guiyang City and visited the Huangguoshu Waterfall Scenic Area in Anshun City. Day 1️⃣: Arrived at Guiyang East Station and checked in. With only half a day left, we visited Qingyun Market and had a chance encounter with Kenneth Fok and Guo Jingjing. Then, we went to Jiaxiu Tower for some photo opportunities. Day 2️⃣: Visited Tianhetan Scenic Area, took a boat ride to see rock formations, and climbed the equivalent of 24 floors, walking over 10,000 steps. Day 3️⃣: Woke up early to visit Huangguoshu Waterfall. It was peak summer season, so the place was crowded. As Asia's largest waterfall, each section had its unique charm. The area is divided into three main sections: the Grand Waterfall, Doupotang, and Tianxingqiao. Shuttle buses are required to move between areas, and there are still queues to see the waterfalls after getting off the bus. Tianxingqiao has the longest walking route with ups and downs, Doupotang is mostly flat, and the Grand Waterfall offers an escalator ride for an additional fee. It's recommended to have lunch in the Grand Waterfall area as there are more dining options. Day 4️⃣: Visited the Guizhou Provincial Museum before heading back to Guiyang North Station to take the high-speed train home. The museum offers insights into human evolution and the history of different dynasties in Guizhou. Remember to book tickets in advance! Guiyang does have a metro system, but the underground streets can be confusing. We relied on ride-hailing services throughout the trip and booked a private tour for Huangguoshu. We stayed at Dream City near Guiyang North Station, which had plenty of dining options nearby. However, hotel prices during the summer were unreasonably high and not worth the cost. On this trip to Guiyang, I stayed at Sofitel Guiyang Hunter for three days and two nights, and visited Qianling Mountain Park, Jiaxiu Tower, and Cuiwei Garden. The best way to learn about the history and culture of a place is to visit a museum, so I took a taxi to Guizhou Museum on the morning of the second day. The newly established "Humanities and Landscapes, Time and Peaks in Love - Colorful Guizhou History and Culture Exhibition" adopts a "one-shot" narrative method and is divided into six parts. It comprehensively and vividly displays the cultural and historical picture of Guizhou from prehistoric times to the pre-Qin period, Qin and Han Dynasties to the Wei, Jin, Southern and Northern Dynasties, Sui and Tang Dynasties to Song and Yuan Dynasties, Ming Dynasty Guizhou, and Qing Dynasty Guizhou. It clarifies the trajectory of Guizhou's changes, highlights Guizhou's highlights, and shows Guizhou's development process of integrating into the core of China in the long river of history. 3 days and 2 nights in Guiyang | Thanks to my husband for his active support when our baby was 120 days old. Many people say that winter is the worst time to visit (rainy and cold), hahaha! But I was lucky enough to have two days of good weather. Although the first day was freezing cold, the next two days were over 10°C and I was sweating. Lazy itinerary Day 1: 12:30 Arrive at Guiyang Airport, Guizhou Museum, Douhua Fish Hotel (order takeout: Guizhou-style spring rolls, Qu Tea Mountain, beef skewers, ice cream) Day 2: 10:56 Depart for Libo Xiaoqikong, Guizhou-style sour soup hot pot Day 3: 10:35 Go out, 857 Hot Pot (drink Lishan Mountain) Humen Street Catholic Church, hotel rest, Anshun Duochi Duo Fen Airport Accommodation: Atour Hotel (less than CNY 200 per person per day) Recommended breakfast with a wide variety of food, daily fruit, late-night snacks, and yogurt delivered to the room. Convenient location, 5 minutes to the subway, and all the places we visited on the third day were within walking distance. Transportation: You can use the Alipay ride code, but you need to top up your account first. You can get a 10% discount when you top up, and you can get a refund for the remaining balance. According to my itinerary, the subway fare is less than CNY 20 (we took a taxi half the time). One thing to complain about! The subway signs are not clear! Are they afraid of being found by me?! Although there is a subway at the airport, you have to walk 400 meters from T3 and go through several underground passages (stairs) to get there. I was in a good mood after eating. In winter, it is really cold here, and the wind blows through the restaurant. I was so cold on the first day that I couldn't go out, so I went back to the hotel and ordered takeout. Scenic spots Huangguoshu Waterfall, Xijiang Qianhu Miao Village, and Libo Xiaoqikong are all around Guiyang. You can join a tour group or take the high-speed rail on your own. The viewing times were divided into morning and afternoon, and the number of people was set, so it wasn't too crowded, which was nice.
