The weather was nice, so I went to Jinchao 8 Lane to experience the Lunar New Year atmosphere. Jinchao 8 Lane is located on North Sichuan Road in Hongkou District, Shanghai. It was originally a Shikumen residential area, but after renovation, it became a leisure and entertainment street that combines history and modern trends. The area retains 66 old buildings in 8 lanes, including Gongyifang, Yingchuan Jilu, and Yinhong Garden. Various markets and entertainment activities are held here on weekends and holidays. There were not many people on weekdays, so the environment was nice. Several old houses from the Republic of China period have been renovated and opened to the public. The triplex building of the former "Royal Hotel" is now the "Haipai Culture Center", which displays "North Sichuan Road and the Beginning of Chinese Films". "Yingchuan Jilu" is now "One Foot Garden". "Yinhong Garden" is now the "Ba Jin Library", which has a "Ba Jin and Shanghai" literature and picture exhibition, and also collects literary works by Ba Jin and some Shanghai writers for reading. During the Spring Festival of the Year of the Snake, Jinchao 8 Lane held the "Le Jiangnan" Haipai Lantern Festival and Temple Fair, including lantern viewing, parades, games, shopping, and stamp collecting to win gifts. After several changes, it was used as the Air Force Newborn Society, Taihe Midwifery School, Navy Headquarters Office, Navy Family Area, Residential Building, etc. In 2017, the Haipai Cultural Center opened in Sichuan North Road Park. In 2024, this building in Jinchao 8 Lane will be reopened as the Haipai Cultural Center. 🏛️Architectural features The three-row building adopts brick-wood structure and outer corridor style, with red tile double-slope roof, red brick and blue brick exterior walls. The south facade is a continuous arcade, and the north facade has multiple groups of triangular gables with circular windows and red brick pilasters.

Last weekend, I went to Jin Chao 8 Nong to watch the Chaozhou Yingge Dance (last picture). The place was packed with people, which is rare in recent years. It's not that people in Shanghai are not interested, but because of the limitations of space and venue, there are too few folk activities that can make people excited. I accidentally discovered that the Binjiang Commercial Center next to it has quietly opened. The exterior looks like a quartz slice, with clear architectural textures and distinctive features. There are corridors and walkways outside connecting each floor, allowing you to peek into the interior of the temporarily closed "Yingchuan Jilu" and look far into the "Bank of China Building" (which once served as the Shanghai office of Columbia Pictures and MGM). The commercial center is quite large, but there are not many businesses settled in yet, mainly focusing on creative living. There is an indoor slide on the first floor, allowing children to go directly to the underground floor. There is also an ancient stage on the outdoor seventh floor. Currently, there is a theme of "Walking with Beauty," presenting scenes from eight classic films of the Shanghai Animation Film Studio, such as "Gudu Came," "The Story of New Year's Eve," "No Brain and Unhappy," "Cao Chong Weighs an Elephant," "Little Tadpoles Looking for Their Mother," "Little Carp Jumping Over the Dragon Gate," etc. Each one is a childhood favorite, bringing back memories and reliving the classics. With the Spring Festival approaching, the exterior decoration of the spirit snake is grand and festive. Located at No. 14, Lane 393, Wujin Road, Sichuan North Road, within Jin Chao Ba Nong, the Shanghai Style Cultural Center, the three-row house was originally the RoyalHotel Royal Hotel, designed by Xing Tai Electric Light Company in 1927. It features a double-sloped red tile roof, red and blue brick exterior walls, multiple triangular gables on the north facade, and a continuous arcade on the south facade. Hongkou is the cradle of Chinese cinema. The first movie screening in China and the first cinema both started in Hongkou. The first floor of the current house exhibits 'Listening to the Tides of the Sea, Radiant with Light and Color - Sichuan North Road and the Dawn of Chinese Cinema.'
