Hong Kong Island Ding Ding Tram Qipao Tour / Return to the Golden Years of the Swaying Qipao
When I put on the graceful attire of the old days and stepped onto the vintage century-old Hong Kong Ding Ding tram, a journey through time quietly began.
How would you start your Hong Kong trip?
Would you weave through the crowds at the Central pedestrian crossings? Or take a leisurely stroll along Victoria Harbour?
This time, I discovered a unique way to explore Hong Kong:
Wearing a qipao, sitting on the "1920s" panoramic sightseeing Ding Ding tram,
roaming from Sheung Wan to Causeway Bay, soaking in the charm of Hong Kong.
This is a masterful collaboration between Hotel Indigo Hong Kong Causeway Bay and Hong Kong Tramways: the "Ding Ding Qipao Tour" event.
First stop:
Check in at Hotel Indigo Hong Kong Causeway Bay and collect the package;
Second stop:
After a short rest, head to the "Yan Shang Ji" qipao shop on Wing Lee Street in Central to select and rent a favorite qipao.
After dressing up and styling, stepping out of the store with a bit of excitement, I became a beautiful sight on the street.
On the way to the terminal, I couldn’t resist taking various street photos—after all, the qipao suits us Chinese women perfectly.
Third stop:
Arrive at the Ding Ding tram terminal and board the vintage tram designed to resemble the 1920s.
Wooden benches and open windows instantly transport you back in time.
At 16:15, the tram slowly departs from the Sheung Wan terminal.
Leaning by the window, letting the breeze tousle my hair. Sitting on the upper deck of the Ding Ding tram, the scenery flashes by like scenes from a movie:
Modern buildings in Central, the bustling life of Wan Chai, the neon lights of Causeway Bay—new and old lights and shadows intertwine and collide before my eyes.
The unique rhythm of the Ding Ding tram composes the most authentic soundtrack for this journey on Hong Kong Island.
An hour later, the tram gently arrives at the Causeway Bay terminal, where Hotel Indigo Hong Kong Causeway Bay comes into view.
Clearly, we were not ready to end this time-travel journey, and back at the hotel, we were still immersed in it.
So the fourth stop:
Head to Salon Lanson on the hotel’s first floor and order a signature cocktail, "The World of Suzie Wong," inspired by the movie of the same name.
Taking a sip, the sweet and sour taste with a hint of intoxication evokes the enchanting charm of 1960s Hong Kong. Happy hour perfectly concludes this time-travel experience.
I booked the "Qishang Time" accommodation package:
Includes one night’s hotel stay + panoramic tram tour for two + qipao rental for two + cocktail discount for two (weekends only from 5.17 to 8.17).
Speaking of Hotel Indigo Hong Kong Causeway Bay, it is a boutique luxury hotel that creates a warm yet upscale residence in the bustling Causeway Bay.
Renovated and reopened last year, the interior design was crafted by French design master Pierre-Yves Rochon.
The style is minimalist yet luxurious, simple yet elegant, with red bricks, greenery, hydrangeas, and classic crystal chandeliers shining brightly.
Being inside feels like being in a private villa in southern France, offering excellent visual beauty and comfort.
The public areas are equipped with a gym and laundry room, and the suites feature convenient built-in kitchens.
The first-floor restaurant, Salon Lanson, offers all-day dining and cocktail hours, truly comprehensive.
This summer, put aside the rush, bring a heart ready to feel time, and come here to sway slowly, watch slowly, and enjoy slowly.
