Xiaoxitian Temple is located on Fenghuang Mountain, 1 km northwest of Xi County, Shanxi Province. Formerly known as Qianfo Temple, it is a Buddhist temple founded in the seventh year of Chongzhen in the Ming Dynasty (1634 AD). The temple is divided into two courtyards, the upper and lower courtyards. There are many statues with bright colors and vivid shapes in the two courtyards, which can be regarded as the best of Ming Dynasty colored sculptures. The lower courtyard has Wuliang Hall, Wei Tuo Hall, left and right wing rooms and the front gate. Wuliang Hall faces west and east, and there are dozens of bronze Buddhas and wooden carved heavenly palaces and pavilions. The upper courtyard is surrounded by Wenshu Hall and Samantabhadra Hall on the left and right, and the main hall is in the middle. The hall is full of large-scale painted hanging sculptures. There are 5 interconnected niches in the front, with 5 main Buddhas sitting in them, and 10 disciples standing on the left and right sides. There are 33 floors of heavenly palaces and pavilions in the hall, with brightly painted colors and carved beams and painted buildings. There are many hanging sculptures in the hall. The figures are full and vivid, and their inner worlds are portrayed touchingly. They are exquisitely sculpted and charming treasures of Ming Dynasty colored sculptures. Their colors have remained the same until now, making them a treasure house of Ming Dynasty colored sculpture art.
