[2025 Shanghai Attraction] Travel Guide for M50 Creative Park (Updated Aug)

This time, I stayed directly at the newly opened Shanghai Jing’an Holiday Inn in 2025🏨 As a smart hotel, the check-in experience was full of technology, and I met many foreign friends, almost feeling like I was abroad🫣 - 📍Location: It’s right near Shanghai Railway Station🚉, a 5-minute walk from the North Square🚶 Whether for tourism or business trips, this location is very convenient - 🧑‍✈️Check-in: ✔️The staff were enthusiastic and efficient, check-in was very fast ✔️If you need help with luggage🧳, there are trolleys🛒 available at the entrance ✔️Free orange juice🍊 and cucumber🥒 lemon water are provided in the lobby to cool down - 🛏️Room experience: This time I stayed in a deluxe room (king bed) on the 23rd floor of the hotel, the elevator🛗 requires a key card, making it even more “secure” ▪️The room is over 30 square meters, spacious and not cramped, with a work desk and sofa area ▪️The toilet🚻 and washroom are completely separate, and the toilet has smart heating ▪️There are two types of pillows, soft and firm, and despite being near the train station, there was no noise ▪️The 23rd floor offers a panoramic view of the cityscape of Magic City, though unfortunately there was no sunset that day ▪️The air conditioning’s cooling effect is really good, no need for a room card, and it’s silent - 🏋️Hotel facilities: 🔺The gym is on the 24th floor, designed as a “sky gym” with floor-to-ceiling windows that expand the view, the gym is quite large and equipped with mineral water 🔺The laundry room requires a room card to enter, has drying facilities, and provides laundry bags - 🍳Chinese and Western breakfast: The hotel breakfast is very rich, and restocking is fast, so even at 9:30 am there are no “empty plates” ◽️There are three noodle toppings, the pickled vegetable shredded pork with diced ingredients made me “eat a lot” ◽️The hotel breakfast offers stir-fried dishes, and even sweet and sour ribs, which is quite rare ◽️The Western-style thin pancakes🍕 are quite special, you can make your own “egg burger” - 🍃Nearby attractions: 1️⃣Tian’an Qianshu: A floating building complex by the Suzhou River, with occasional night markets at night, beautiful malls, and many trendy shops 2️⃣M50 Creative Park: Lots of free exhibitions, a great place for photos📷 and check-ins 3️⃣Jade Buddha Temple: A famous Jiangnan temple with thriving incense, known for its jade-carved reclining Buddha 4️⃣Changshou Road: A street full of artistic coffee shops, perfect for a city walk

Located next to Suzhou creek, the small river that crosses Shanghai horizontally, the M50 Creative Park is a unique art and design hub where to enjoy a day of culture and food. Plenty of Art Galleries such as Island6 or ShanghArt will fulfill your thirst for an artsy escape whereas the many cafes and restaurants spread in quiet patios are a great choice for bites and sips. Check out the wall paintings and street sculptures lining up the little corridors by the river, these are a bit hidden as you need to get there through a small walkable pathway in one corner of the area, not easy to find but well worth the effort #visitshanghai

Located at the heart of M50 Creative Park a hub for design and art venues, Island 6 pushes forward the boundaries of creativity while staying true to the traditional landscapes of Shanghai. In the artworks you see everyday sceneries of life in Shanghai: scooters, skyscrapers, electric cables, etcetera, juxtaposed to a graphic or video element that highlights inside the painting. 🌈Bright and Magnificent｜Exhibition of Deng Jiaan's Works 📅2022.12.3-2023.2.26 Van Hede once again held a solo exhibition for Deng Jiaan. Except for a small number of works that have been exhibited before, all of them are his latest works. This year, blonde girls have become the main subject of Deng's creations. In addition, the size of the paintings has become larger, and some have even caught up with murals. Deng's paintings still win with details, with several light and wonderful stories juxtaposed together to form a graceful picture scroll. #ShanghaiExhibition #m50

Next to Shanghai`s art district, M50, you will find a huge complex covered with trees, called “1000 Trees” designed by the British designer Thomas Heatherwick`s studio. 🌇🌿 This beautiful mall complex, which harmonizes all its neighboring landscape, is filled with columns abound with trees and plants🌳🌿, making it look as if green shoots have sprouted up through the building to bloom on the skyline. 🏢 Each floor of the building has a terraces with panoramic views 🤪 and columns bringing nature close to each level. From a distance the 1000 Trees emerge like a pair of first-capped mountains. ⛰️🌿😍 It is a nice place to visit when you are in the area. You can have a beautiful walk there since it is located on the bend in Suzhou Creek, bounded by the river 🌅 to the north, the M50 art district 🧑‍🎨 to the south and a residential area to the east. This site contains lots of shops, cafes, restaurants, public spaces and a walkway along the river with cherry trees 🌸🍒 and art pieces. 📍 Shanghai, Putuo district. 🗺 莫干山路50号 🚊 Jiangning Road subway station, line 13 🚶🏻‍♀️ Around 10 minutes walking distance from exit 1. 🖼 It’s a small art corner full of beauty, uniqueness and positive energy. 💰 Most of the museums don’t require a ticket and there is no entrance fee. 🌭 There are some restaurants and bars around. you can also find delicious western food and drinks. 📌 Half a day is fully enough for this trip. If you love modern art, and street art in particular, then you can visit M50 Creative Park in Shanghai. It's located at 50 Moganshan Road (hence the name) just across the river from Shanghai Railway Station. The area is free to enter, and you can enjoy plenty of creative murals all around the complex on the walls, roofs and doors. It's a perfect place for that Instagram moment. There is more to do than just admiring the graffiti. You can visit one of the many shops here. There are art galleries, coffee shops and shops to buy handmade jewelry and other crafts. You can even join a workshop and let your creative juices flow.

Getting There - You can either take the taxi or the metro and get off at Zhongtan Road 🚕 Attractions - It’s a mall and inside the mall are various art galleries and exhibitions. 🛍 Food & Restaurants - There’s a massive food court and various restaurants on the terrace. 🍱 Shopping - An array of clothing stores for the whole family. 🛒 I’ve been watching as they have build this mall over the past two years, at first it looks like a gigantic island filled with trees and as you make your way into the doors your at a world class mall. 🌳 I’m not a big fan of malls but this mall is so beautiful, it has various art galleries and exhibitions as you go about your day. 🖼 While a few places are still under-construction I can’t wait to see everything open and complete. 🚪 Make sure you find a terrace to have a view of the river and people watch if that’s your thing. 🌉 #1000 #spring #malls

Far from being an expert, I still love looking at the intricacies of accomplished or passionate artists. Shanghai Art District named M50 is exactly the place to do that. Although lacking some of those famous European buildings down by the French Concession, M50 has a uniquely European, Bohemian vibe, with it's small independent coffee shops, hipster art stores and graffiti littered all over the walls, from big to small. You could spend several hours browsing art works and speaking to there creators. It's truly a unique space in Shanghai, and not one to miss out on. 50 Moganshan lu - M50 Creative Park is one my favorite spots in Shanghai to appreciate local artists. A lofty, grungy spot with awesome art. A must for any art lover. Permanent artist studios and temporary exhibitions keep the space fresh and evolving. Graffiti art, sculpture and minimalist architecture abounds. Can be busy over the national holidays, so I recommend a lazy Sunday to visit the area. Cafe’s and coffee trucks available. clean bathroom and seating available. M50 Creative Park has multiple buildings with lots of art spaces and studios. If you are staying just few days in Downtown Shanghai, then this is a must place to go.

Getting There - Metro line 3,4 ( Shanghai Railway station) or 1. 10am-6pm Attractions - This is an art district. Over here you can find galleries where you can see different types of art and art techniques. Most of it are free. Artists will share their work space and their paintings with you for free. If you have your own collection you can buy some art pieces here. Feel the spirit of a different Shanghai. Food & Restaurants - Inside you can find some bars and places where you can eat or drink. N50 is close to West Suzhou Road in Jing'an District. It reminds me of a mini 798 Art Zone, where I used to go in Beijing. I liked it there. It's a nice place for a leisurely stroll.

Access: Plane (one night transit to Melbourne) Tourist attractions: If you like architecture and art, we recommend visiting Tianan Sunshine Plaza & M50 Arts Park This time, I stayed in Shanghai for one night in transit because I wanted to see the buildings designed by Heatherwick Studio. China, which had its visa reinstated until the end of 2024, will be exempt from pizza in 2025, making it easier to go! (There was also a transit visa exemption, but I avoided it because it would have been a one-night stay if it wasn't.) Now in China, you can pay with QR code, so you don't need to exchange money, which is a nice point for transit! Shenzhen in 202407 (entered from Hong Kong with an arrival visa) I was able to use the shared bicycle smoothly, which had not worked out well, and I used the shared bicycle for short distances + the subway for long distances. I thought about using didi from the airport to the hotel because I arrived late, but I booked a shuttle service with trip.com coupons and points for a price not much different from didi. The plane arrived late, but after arriving, I was able to communicate with trip.com's message function, so I felt safe while leaving the country and collecting my luggage. The car was a very clean and spacious BYD, and we were given mineral water. The location of the hotel, which is directly connected to the station, was very difficult to find, and even though I could see the sign, I couldn't find the entrance, so the driver called the hotel and guided me to the entrance, which was helpful (I didn't have to wander around with my suitcase). I recommend the shuttle service, as it is more convenient than Didi when you arrive late at night.
