This is my fourth time in Indonesia, but my first time visiting this famous Java attraction, Bromo Volcano. I joined a group from Malang, waiting for the sunrise in the dark, the temperature was only 9 degrees, luckily I managed without adding a coat. Then we went on a somewhat experienced trek to the volcano crater, followed by the grasslands and the sand sea, which everyone ignored because they were too tired. Since we set off from Malang, we left the hotel in Malang city at 0:40. On the way back, we visited a place that some people call the 'small waterfall', the Rainbow Waterfall. The ticket price is very low, it's a bit like the main waterfall in the Tongling Grand Canyon in Guangxi that I visited in 2021, but the ticket prices of the two can't be compared.

We engaged in a local tour to bring us to the volcano and the vantage point they brought us to is Mount Penanjakan. We woke up during the wee hours of the morning to travel and trek up the mountain to see the sunrise. The sunrise over Mount Bromo is breathtaking! It is one of the most beautiful sunrises that I have ever witnessed. Depending on your fitness level, the trek to the top takes about 20-30 minutes. Embedded within the fabric of this grand geological formation lies a legend - a selfless brave prince who sacrificed his life to appease the God for his family. This myth has been interwoven into the culture of Tengger as during the annual Kasada festival, the people can be seen throwing offerings into the crater of the volcano. This is a once in a lifetime experience that I wish to go again in the near future!

If you are short on time, go to Bromo, Sewu and Ijen. It is recommended to report to the group. If you want to travel freely, Just keep reading. You can take the train to Probolinggo for free travel. Then we went to live in Cemorolawang Village, Both GRAB and minibus can reach here. The GRAB fee is about 150 RMB. There is an entry fee of 30K to enter the village. The conditions of the B&Bs in the village are not very good. I recommend staying in Cemara. The advantage is the good location and view. Ensure hot water. You can see the volcano from the roadside. The disadvantage is that the conditions are really average. It is strongly recommended to bring disposable sheets and quilt covers. The village is very close to the volcano viewing platform. Those with good physical strength can choose to walk there. Those who don't want to go this way, I got up at 2am and called a motorcycle taxi to take me to the Seruni Observation Deck. The round trip fee is 70K. You can discuss the price of going to the crater with the motorcycle driver. The total cost is 220K. If the viewing requirements are not high, Seruni can also take good pictures of the landscape. When the volcano was active before, It can only be seen from this observation deck. The road from Seruni to Kingkong Hill is a dirt road. There are some difficulties. But it takes at most 40 minutes to climb to Kingkong. After watching the sunrise, we returned to Seruni. You can ask a motorcycle taxi to take you back to the hotel for breakfast. The restaurant has a direct view of the volcano. The scenery is really great, Moreover, the food in the restaurant is surprisingly suitable for Chinese tastes. There is no entrance fee to the volcano viewing platform. The crater ticket costs 220K. From a small path next to the entrance of Cemara, you can walk directly to the sand sea. It takes about 30 minutes to walk to the foot of the volcano. Due to physical reasons, We chose a motorcycle taxi. The parking locations for motorcycles and jeeps at the foot of the volcano are also different. The motorcycle can directly reach the place about 100 meters away from the foot of the mountain. The jeep dropped the person off when it was still a long distance from the foot of the mountain. You can ride a horse to the bottom of the mountain stairs. If you come here by motorcycle, No need to ride a horse anymore. A short distance. It's just that the distance is very gray. The groom will deliberately let the horse raise dust to force you to choose to ride. From Cemorolawang back to Probolinggo, You can take a minibus. But the car will start only when there are 8 people. The waiting time will be long in the off-season. If there are not enough people, The driver will let you share the total cost of 400K.
