The Parthenon is right outside of downtown Athens! This time, I took a morning walk from a nearby hotel, and headed there as soon as the gates opened. As I walked up the stone steps, I could see the huge Parthenon and the Athens cityscape right in front of me, which was very impressive. [Sightseeing Tips] ○Morning is recommended! →I had heard that it gets very crowded during the day, so I arrived about 20 minutes before the gates opened. Dozens of people were already in line at this time. In the afternoon, it seems that it gets too crowded and you can't get in, or you have to wait for several hours. ○Buy tickets in advance →I went before the gates opened, but there was quite a line at the ticket booth. I also finished sightseeing in about an hour, and when I passed by the entrance, there was quite a line, so I think it would be smooth to buy tickets online in advance. ○Bring drinks →It's larger than I expected and has ups and downs, so drinks are a must. I forgot to drink something when I left the hotel, so I thought about buying some on the way, but there are hardly any around the ruins, so it's better to buy some in advance and take them with you. You will have to queue to buy tickets to enter the Parthenon, so we recommend that you make a reservation online in advance (€20). You can enter at a pre-specified time, so it's smooth. There are especially many people in the afternoon, and it's still hot even in September, so you need to take measures against heatstroke. By the way, drinks other than water will be confiscated at the entrance, so be careful. There are many tourists now, and the facility is under construction, but there is still plenty to see. I recommend going first thing in the morning, but the view around sunset is also different and nice. The New Acropolis Museum also has one basement floor and three aboveground floors, and there are so many things to see that it will take about two hours to see them properly. Amazing trip to the acropolis. This is definitely “must visit” place in Greece. You will be exited of seeing all this huge ancient buildings made of pure marble. Big respects to the team who are working on the reconstruction of the sites, you can see a big jog they have done where the “Snow White” marble parts are, these are the new ones. I highly recommend to enter the acropolis from the main entrance despite huge lines for tickets and to the entrance also! After you enter go direct to Parthenon and to the view square with Greek flag to see the Olymp and little part of stadium, after the best way is to go down and see the theater and head to exit! have a nice trip and stay in Athens #athens #parthenon

Like most Greek temples, this temple also served as a treasury. 1. Built in 447 BC to replace the older Parthenon (destroyed by the Persians in 480 BC). 2. For a time, it served as the treasury of the Delian League (which later evolved into the Athenian Empire). 3. In the 6th century AD, the Parthenon was converted into a church dedicated to the Virgin Mary (the original deity, Athena, was also a virgin). 4. In the early 1460s, after being conquered by the Ottoman Turks, it was used as a mosque. 5. In 1687, it was used as a gunpowder magazine by the Turkish army and was unfortunately severely damaged in an explosion. 6. By 1800, only half of the Parthenon sculptures survived. After obtaining permission from the Ottoman government, the British ambassador, Lord Elgin, began transporting the surviving sculptures to Britain at his own expense from 1801. They have been on display at the British Museum since 1817.
