A Day with Rescued Wildlife in Phnom Penh
Spent a day at the Phnom Tamao Sanctuary for the Wildlife. Learned a lot with the works of the Wildlife Alliance and how they rescue and take care of wildlife animals, such as elephants, tigers, leopards, sunbears, moonbears, gibbons and many more.
The trip is a whole-day trip and packed with interactions with the rescued Asian elephants. Got to meet several of them including Lomphat, the 5-month old elephant that was just recently rescued. These elephants were rescued due to human-elephant conflicts caused by some agrarian-related issues.
Other wildlife in this sanctuary were rescued because of people’s lack of knowledge about them. With some, keeping them as pets when they were young and regretting their decisions once they get older.
You’ll get to enjoy local Khmer food as well cooked by the locals in the sanctuary. This is all included in the tour package.
The tour fee with the Wildlife Alliance will go to the benefit of the animals that they are taking care of so it is worth the visit. Try to drop by if you’re in Phnom Penh and it’s a magical experience to get to know these rescued animals.
