[Okinoshima Town] Oki Plaza Hotel
I went to Okinoshima Town in the Oki Islands of Shimane Prefecture!
I stayed at the Hito Naka Guesthouse, a detached building in the Oki Plaza Hotel.
It was very reasonably priced, but the inside was very clean, the shared spaces were well-equipped, and it was the best value for money!
If you visit Okinoshima Town, please stay here!

[Oki Island] Cape Nagu
I went to Okinoshima Town in the Oki Islands for the first time!
I went all the way to Cape Nagu.
There were cows on the road to the lighthouse, which was pretty scary, but the view from the observation deck was amazing!
I recommend everyone to go there at least once!

The naturally rich Oki Islands🌿 (Dōgo)
If you're tired of your daily life, be sure to visit Oki Island 🚢
After a 2.5 hour ferry ride from Shichirui Port in Matsue City, Shimane Prefecture, you'll arrive at the paradise that is Oki Island.
Around the sea, time seems to flow slowly on this island, rich in nature.
We recommend that you enjoy yourself at your own pace, playing in the clear, beautiful sea, visiting the many scenic spots, and enjoying fresh seafood.
Recommended spots
🌿 Candle Island
At sunset, the sun shines on the tip of the island, making it look like a lit candle, creating a truly spectacular view.
The observation deck is located in an area called Kumi, and sightseeing boats depart from Juse Port. It's about a 30-minute drive from Saigo Port.
It's nice to see it up close by boat, but it's also recommended to view the majestic sea and Candle Island from the observation deck.
Looking at the clear, beautiful sea and the delicate Candle Island, it feels like you're in a surreal world.
🌿 Tamawakasu no Mikoto Shrine & Yaoyasugi
This is a dignified shrine built in the 5th year of the Kansei era.
The main hall and the main gate are thatched and charming, and the Yaoyasugi trees at the end of the approach are a highlight.
🌿 Izakaya "Ten"
3 minutes walk from Saigo Port
This is a restaurant where you can enjoy fresh seafood.
You can enjoy a wide range of dishes, from affordable menus to whole fish dishes.
The fried horse mackerel in particular was fluffy and delicious.
(It seems to be a popular restaurant, so it's wise to make a reservation.)

[Oki Island] Stunning Candle Island
The famous Candle Island in Oki Island 🕯️
When the sunset overlaps with the candle-shaped island,
it looks like a lit candle. 🕯️✨
If you book a Candle Island sightseeing boat tour, you can see this spectacular view up close! 🚢
And the price is ¥3,000/person, so it's good value for money!
The boat is driven by a local fisherman, and they use their exquisite techniques to adjust the location so that you can enjoy it from various angles, so you can enjoy the spectacular view from any position!
However, the possibility of departure is decided on the day, so you may not be able to see it depending on the weather. 💦
It was a very impressive view, so I want to go see it again! ! ! !

[Oki Islands] 2.5 hours by ferry from the mainland to Japan's Krabi!?
Emperor Gotoba and Emperor Go-Daigo were exiled to this island...
What kind of island is this?! It's a calm island with clear air and abundant nature🏝️
When you arrive at Saigo Port by ferry, you can drive around the southern side of the island, which is a very pleasant drive🚗
The sea is so beautiful when your view suddenly opens up✨
You'll want to stop the car and take a look
The shape of the offshore islands rising from the calm waters
It's like a quiet Krabi
There are boats docked in front of the houses standing along the river close to the sea, making it look like Venice
There are retro fish shops, Japanese sweet shops, cute miscellaneous goods shops, and you can enjoy sightseeing in the town
One recommended sunset spot☝︎

[Oki Island] Hidden Realm: Dangyo Falls
I went to Dankyo Falls, which is one of Japan's top 100 waterfalls and one of Japan's top 100 waterfalls.
It's so unexplored it's hard to convey in photos!!
According to the guide, it's recommended to go on a rainy day, as there is more water from the waterfall, but it can be a bit scary because of falling rocks.
You can drink the famous water.
I went there by rental car, but halfway through I lost signal on my smartphone and couldn't use Google Navi, but there were signs so it was fine.

Oki Island Bullring
Bullfighting arena on the island of Oki.
Oki Bullfighting
Japan's oldest traditional culture, with a history of about 800 years, is still being passed down today.
Oki Bullfighting
It is said that Oki bullfighting originated about 800 years ago when the people of the island started it to console Emperor Gotoba, who was exiled to Oki. It is a bullfighting tradition that has only recently survived nationwide. The spectacular bullfighting tournament, in which huge bulls collide with each other, heats up the island and is a tradition that the islanders are proud of.

Fishing at Saigo Port
We were able to enjoy fishing empty-handed. The water below the pier was 25 meters deep. With the instructor by our side, we cast our line from the pier. A thunderstorm warning was issued just before the event and it did indeed rain heavily for a moment, but it cleared up completely within 10 minutes and it was about the third best day for fishing, although it was cold.
There was one professional fisherman there and we were the only ones left.
It was so cold that the fish didn't move at all and we didn't catch anything! But we had a great time for two hours.

Mizuwakasu Shrine

I heard that there are shrines ⛩ in Oki where more than 100 gods are worshiped. Since I didn't have much time, I visited one of the recommended ones.

If you have a toothache, you should definitely go!!
From the port, I rented a car to go to Mizuwakasu Shrine⛩, and after worshiping there, on the way back I caught a glimpse of the word "Agonashi" on the road. Could this be the famous Agonashi Shrine that the manager of my lodging told me about this morning? I immediately made a U-turn and followed the sign to follow it. To be precise, it's Agonashi Jizo. #Agonashi
There was still snow left over from a week ago on the narrow, uphill slope, and there was no sign of cars or people there recently!!
I arrived at this incredible place, and I feel like my teeth are feeling better thanks to it. Thank you very much.

I went on a trip to Okinoshima Town in the Oki Islands, a remote island in Shimane Prefecture!
I found a stylish shop, so I went in!
They sold lots of stylish accessories, such as miscellaneous goods, outdoor goods, tableware, and clothing!
There was also a cafe space in the back!
If you come across it, be sure to stop by!

A spectacular view of Byobuiwa Rock awaits you at the end of a tough mountain path
Byobu Rock is located just opposite Lizard Rock, a natural monument of Shimane Prefecture. There are places where you have to climb using ropes and ladders, so the journey is quite tough. It is a common sight in geoparks, but the rock formations are so large that you can see them from afar. It's a spectacular view.

Shirahama Beach, the northernmost point of the Oki Islands
Although you can drive to the Shiratorizaki Lighthouse and observation deck in front, you have to walk 5km from there to reach Shirahama Beach. There are several small islands at the tip, and they are also nesting sites for rare wild birds and seabirds, so they are also recommended for bird watching.

The strangely shaped rock "Lizard Rock" has been designated as a prefectural natural monument!
From the parking lot at the Lizard Rock Observatory, you can enter the hiking trail and reach the viewpoint in about an hour. There is a fork along the way, so you can also go to the summit. The rock itself is very unusual, but the lizard-like shape of the rock clinging to the mountain toward the summit makes it a fitting appearance for a strange rock.
