Offering a traffic-free bike path, Sha Tin is a great starting point for family rides. You can start off near Shing Mun River, ride along the scenic coastline of Tolo Harbour, then head for Tai Mei Tuk for a view of the beautiful lake. You will pass by a river, the sea and the lake, I highly recommend to rent bike in the area, there will be many bike rental shops. You can rent the bike at Shing Mun River and enjoy three hours of a slow ride passing first from Hong Kong Science Park, keep riding to Pak Shek Kok Promenade & Tai Po Waterfront Park, and at the End reaching Tai Mei Tuk. Recently, Tai Po District has become a mecca for new cafes✨. Many coffee shops have opened in this area, and each one has a unique style🤩! This time we came to the most popular Jeju Island style Korean cafe☕️, located in Tai Mei Tuk, far away from the city. Because of the suburban location, it can transform a village house into a 3-storey coffee shop☕️, becoming the largest and most spacious cafe in Hong Kong. The bottom floor is the ordering area, where customers need to order and pick up their own food. Previously, due to the overcrowding on weekends, there was a long wait and early order cut-off. This time, we chose a weekday at noon and there was no such situation, but there were still many diners coming to visit. The first and second floors are the dining areas. Take the 75K bus or 20C mini bus 🚐 from Tai Po MTR Station, get off at Ting Kok or Lo Tsz Tin. For fitter and more adventurous riders, Shatin or even Tuen Mun are within reach in a day! You can return your bike to another branch of the same bicycle-hire company in Shatin, Yuen Long, Tuen Mun, etc. Great system and great track! 👍 Individual adult bicycles for day hire: from $100hkd/day. The four-wheel bikes cost more and the children’s bikes cost less! There’s also hourly bicycle hire; you can make your outing as cheap/expensive/relaxing/rigourous as you like! ☺️😎 Tai Mei Tuk/Lung Mei villages also have a great selection of Chinese, Indian and western restaurants. There’s also small cafés, a bakery and a foreign foods grocery. Plus, there’s drink machines and small stores for snacks along the bicycle path. If you don’t want to ride far, or at all, you can simply extend your outing from Tai Mei Tuk to see the Plover Cove Reservoir or swim at the Lung Mei Beach. 🏖 These places are within walking distance. Take 20C mini bus or 75K double-decker bus from Tai Po MTR Station. Tai Mei Tuk is the terminus, you can’t get lost! 😂 When you arrive, you will look up to see the Pat Sing Leng mountain (“Ridge of the Eight Immortals”). Yes, you can count them, 8 peaks!
