Upon entering, you will find a large building that looks simple and beautiful. You can walk around the temple and there are trees changing colors around the temple. Takayama Betsuin is a relatively large building with a Japanese-style gate. The temple is free to enter and visit, and there are also elements of the second dimension inside. There is also a treasure museum and a large bell tower next to the temple. After exiting from the back of the temple, there are two small temples that can be visited together. With the small river flowing, it is very cool in winter. Takayama Betsuin is ancient and quaint, and the courtyard is well maintained and worth a visit. Unexpectedly, it snowed in Takayama, and it was quite interesting to walk around and see these temple cultures.

Takayama is a city in Gifu Prefecture, located in the central region of Japan. Nestled in the Hida region, which is known for its high mountains and beautiful nature, Takayama is famous for its well-preserved ancient architecture and culture, earning it the nickname 'Little Kyoto of the mountains.' Although often considered just a stopover or a place to stay for tourists heading to Shirakawa-go or Kamikochi, Takayama itself has plenty of attractions. The city boasts historical temples, small villages, cozy cafes, and markets. For those who enjoy rural, peaceful, and slow-paced life, and love the tender Hida beef, Takayama is highly recommended.

This outstanding temple in Takayama is the Takayama branch temple of the Jodo Shinshuu Otani sect. It has a large main gate in the front of a wide road approaching a temple. It was originally in Shirakawago Nakano, but moved to Takayama. You can also see the bell tower. We had a quick stop here during our trip to Shirakawa-go. We visited January 3rd, 2022. I had the opportunity to visit Shorenji Temple, the oldest temple of the Jodo Shinshu sect in Japan, approximately 500 years old, during the Eisho period. Its graceful curved roof architecture is a highlight of the beauty of Muromachi architecture. The temple grounds are spacious, the atmosphere is nice, and there are places where you can take pictures. It has an ancient temple atmosphere.
