On the way from #Heianjingu to #Ginkakuji, before turning into #Philosopher's Path, I unexpectedly visited the coffee shop "Botanic Coffee Kyoto". I say it’s an accident because I originally searched for another one on Google Maps, but the sun was too strong and I happened to see one that looked good, so I went in! Botanic Coffee is located in a residential area, on the B1 floor of a 4-storey building. Going down the stairs, you can see a small open-air courtyard. The outdoor seats give you a relaxing feeling with a cool breeze. The interior is decorated in a classical style with European furniture, just like being in a country shop in the south of France, very fresh and elegant. Having afternoon tea here will make you feel more elegant. Since I had just finished eating #山元麺蔵, I ordered an iced coffee and a muffin. When the tableware and boiled water were brought up, I thought the glass cups were so elegant and the patterns on the plates were so beautiful, as if I was enjoying afternoon tea in a palace. The muffins are similar to Kyushu muffins, thick but fluffy, not too soft, and still have a certain chewiness. Put a piece of butter on top, melt it with the temperature of the muffin, and then pair it with syrup and ice cream. The conflicting feeling of salty and sweet, hot and cold blends into a wonderful taste in the mouth. Botsnic Coffee is a small community shop, mostly with regular customers from the neighborhood and a few tourists who accidentally pass by. After enjoying the cool breeze, we continued to stroll along this Philosophy Path which is full of fresh green and without cherry blossoms. Experienced Spring in Kyoto and it was amazing! we went during this season to view cherry blossoms and we were not disappointed. The beautiful blooms were everywhere and Philosopher's Path deserves a 👍. There's not much crowd on that morning we were there. The trees lined the river and pathways perfectly as you can see here. Along the way, there's small cafes, shops and small temples/shrines. When you come to Kyoto, besides Toji Temple, you must also visit the Philosopher's Path in April and September. It is a must-visit place for tourists. This path follows a canal which is lined by hundreds of cherry and mapple trees. Approximately two kilometers long, the path begins around Ginkakuji (Silver Pavilion) and ends in the neighborhood of Nanzenji. The Philosopher’s Path, or Walk, is a great place to visit all year round, as the scenery offers something unique for every season. #July2025 The entire route was shaded by trees, so it wasn't too hot!! If you had a full day, you could walk like this: Ginkakuji Temple - Philosopher's Walk - Eikan-do Temple - Tairi-tei - Nanan-ji Temple - Tenjuan Temple However, since we planned to go back to Shinpukan for shopping in the afternoon, we only stayed half a day and skipped Ginkakuji Temple and half of the Philosopher's Walk (a total of 2 km). Around 9:00 AM, take bus No. 32 or No. 5 directly from Shijo Kawaramachi to Kamimiya-mae-cho. From there, you can walk half of the Philosopher's Walk towards Eikan-do Temple. Along the way, you'll hear birdsong and the sound of flowing water. There are also many teahouses and sweet shops along the way where you can relax and enjoy the view. We arrived at Eikan-do Temple around 10:00 AM. It's a must-see. It's less crowded in the morning and the scenery is incredibly beautiful. It's worth sitting quietly and taking in the view. Remember to bring cash, 600 yen per person. We left for Dali-tei at 11:20 AM. Just in time for the restaurant's opening at 11:30 PM, we were able to enjoy delicious Wagyu sukiyaki and udon, which I think are just as good as the ones at Imaban. The ice cream, available in three different tea flavors, was also delicious. The view was stunning, and the price per person was under 200 yen—it was totally worth it. (By the time we finished eating, there was already a long line. Be sure to go early.) Afterward, you can leisurely explore Nanan-ji Temple and Tenju-an Temple. The castle tower is small but very comfortable and beautiful, with a breathtaking view at every step. It's well worth it. Tickets are still purchased in cash, and they seem to be 500 yen per person. We finished with a Blue Bottle coffee and headed back to the shops at 3:00 PM. This route is perfect for those who don't want to go the extra mile to Sanzen-in Temple and Ruriko-in Temple, or for those who want to spend half a day exploring the sights and half a day shopping. Even if you visit Sanzen-in Temple, Eikan-do Temple is definitely worth a visit.

During cherry blossom season, one of the must-visit spots in Kyoto is the Philosopher's Path located in Sakyo Ward, Kyoto City.
