Beautiful night view of Shanghai Bund
Tonight we stayed for free at a transit hotel in Shanghai 🤩 The room and bathroom are super spacious and comfortable! The hotel offers free airport shuttle service 👍 and even includes breakfast 🥐🥗🥖
Our friend first took us to Nanjing Road Pedestrian Street to feast 🍜 We enjoyed delicious abalone and crab roe noodles 🦀 so rich and flavorful 😋
After eating, we bought some old Shanghai Qiang cakes next door to try, and they turned out to be super chewy and bouncy 👏👏
#Then we walked to Shanghai Bund to take night photos and digest a bit
On the way, we passed by the Peace Hotel and decided to go in for a visit
The "Shanghai Peace Hotel" is a masterpiece of Art Deco style. After three years of extensive renovation, its vintage charm has been brilliantly revived. Located at the famous intersection of the Bund and bustling Nanjing Road, it is an excellent spot to experience Shanghai’s enchanting vibe and vitality.
~ Standing by the Huangpu River for over a century with its classic architectural style and rich historical value, it was once hailed as the "Number One Building in the Far East."
#As China’s first world-renowned hotel, the Peace Hotel’s story is also the story of Shanghai
The Peace Hotel is truly a symbol, a legend. No matter how time changes, the stories this hotel holds will never fade. This is the Shanghai Peace Hotel with a 90-year history. Jazz bands, cheongsam-clad ladies, subtle makeup, the thick Shanghai dialect saying “I help you just now…” The soft laughter clinking glasses, and the well-groomed gentlemen with slicked-back hair and leather shoes. This is the refinement and elegance of Shanghai, a sophisticated atmosphere you can still find at the Peace Hotel today.
This building, over 100 years old, has witnessed the changes in modern Shanghai and China, hiding many little-known stories behind it 💁♀️
In 1909, countries including China, Britain, the US, and France held the International Opium Commission here.
In 1911, Sun Yat-sen passed through Shanghai on his way to Nanjing to become the provisional president of the Republic of China and attended a welcoming ceremony here, where he famously said, “The revolution has not yet succeeded; comrades must continue to work hard.”
In 1927, Chiang Kai-shek and Soong Mei-ling held their engagement ceremony in the hotel’s Meilu Hall.
In March 1936, American comedy master Charlie Chaplin and Paulette Goddard, the female lead of "Modern Times," stayed at the hotel.
The hotel has hosted over a hundred presidential-level receptions, not to mention other celebrities. It has been featured in 44 films, including well-known titles like "The Silent War," "Ruan Lingyu," "Tiny Times," "Crossing Hennessy," and "Shake, Shake, Shake to Grandma’s Bridge." This legendary hotel often appears in many old movies. The 1995 film "Peace Hotel" was the last Hong Kong movie Chow Yun-fat made before moving to Hollywood. During the 19th Shanghai International Film Festival in 2016, the Peace Hotel was awarded the "Centennial Film Special Contribution Award," a first in the hotel industry. The TV drama "Peace Hotel" is also set against the backdrop of this legendary hotel.
