I was caught by a Muay Thai match at the night market, and after some searching, I found plenty of beginner-friendly Muay Thai gyms in Chiang Mai. Many people recommend gyms in the suburbs, but if you're a tourist, Thaphae Muay Thai Gym is the best choice if you're closer to the city. 👊 🥊 It's within a 5-minute walk of Thapae Gate in the ancient city (Google Maps). They offer single, weekly, monthly, and group/single-session classes. My preferred course was $450 baht, lasting 1 hour and 30 minutes. It included warm-ups before and after, basic Muay Thai moves, bag kicks, leg kicks, and sparring. Wow, it was so tiring, yet so exhilarating! 🥊 Even beginners, don't worry. The instructors divide classes according to level. Thai people are truly hilarious. Simple conversations in Chinese and English often made us laugh. It's a cross-border physical humor experience. Wat Umong (Suan Phuttharam) is one of Chiang Mai's oldest temples, with a history of over 700 years. There is clear evidence that it was built by Phaya Mangrai, the great king of the Lanna Kingdom, to serve as a residence for monks invited from Sri Lanka. It was named Wat Welukattharam, or Wat Phai Sip Et Kor, because the temple was situated amidst a lush bamboo forest.
