Rating: This ancient house inn is located outside the city gate of the Changmen ruins on Shantang Street, and the theme is mainly river view rooms. The price during the Spring Festival is not cheap, about NT$4,000 per night, while the normal price is about half that.
First of all, the subway is quite far away, so you can only take a taxi. If you have luggage, you can only take a six-seater business car. There are fewer six-seat commercial vehicles available for service during the Spring Festival. We called for an hour but there was no matched vehicle. Even if we called for an express car, we still had to wait in a long queue for an hour at the online car-hailing waiting area at Suzhou Station.
The fastest way to leave Suzhou High-Speed Railway Station is to take the subway directly out of the station without exiting the station upon arrival. Shilu Station is just two stops away from Line 2. This inn has butler service. Please contact him after arriving at Suzhou Station and he will meet you at the subway station first. We will use a cargo motorcycle to carry your luggage to the inn first. People can only walk there.
Most of the inns are located in the residential area outside the Changmen Ruins, about a 5-minute walk from Shantang Street, and the signs are not very obvious.
The door is locked with a password and you will be given the password after checking in. The room has a key card and a very stylish cold-proof curtain at the door. There is a shared refrigerator and tea room on the first floor, which feels a bit messy, but there is still space on the table for eating midnight snacks. There will be a chair on the first floor with a whole box of Nongfu Spring for you to use freely.
There is no elevator, so the butler will help you carry your luggage to the second floor.
There is a small pavilion on the second floor where you can make tea, but the tea set does not feel clean. The layout is great for taking photos, but the details are less than promising.
The room is very small and basically only a double bed is full, so the luggage can only be placed on the tatami on the windowsill where you can enjoy the river view. So there is not much space for you to enjoy a leisurely cup of tea with a river view. I personally think the river view is okay and it is not a main river, so there are basically no tourist boats passing by. The 100-inch projector has built-in streaming media, making it convenient to watch TV. A pile of disposable towels is provided every day. The toilet bathroom is very small, the water pressure is not high, and the water temperature is not very hot. Fortunately, there is a heater in the bathroom, otherwise it would be very irritating to take a shower in winter.
We booked two rooms. The twin room on the first floor has a little more space and a washing machine which is not very optimistic.
In general, it's ok to stay one night each on holidays or weekdays. For convenience, we stayed for three nights to have more options. I personally think the hardware equipment looks good at first glance, but the details are tragic. In fact, it is quite a walk away from Shantang Street. It’s almost the same as living outside Suzhou and taking a taxi into the city.
Although the hardware is not that great, the service is really amazing. In addition to daily updated supplies, a large plate of local strawberries and tangerines are also provided every day. Any problems are dealt with immediately. This balances it out a bit.
