Approximately a 40-minute drive from Nagoya, the Yagami River in central Japan's Chubu region is famous for its Higanbana. Located on the Chita Peninsula in Aichi Prefecture, the Yagami River becomes a spectacular sight towards the end of September. Over three million Higanbana flowers bloom along the 14-kilometer stretch of the river, creating a stunning red carpet along the banks. In addition to the vibrant red Higanbana, visitors can also find rare yellow and white varieties. I went to see the red spider lilies along the Yakachi River, the setting of Niimi Nankichi's masterpiece "Gon the Fox" in Handa City, Aichi Prefecture. The red spider lilies are in full bloom for over 1km from Kobo Bridge to Tono Bridge. There were so many of them in bloom, I was moved by the crimson slopes. When I arrived at 12 noon, there were already many visitors, but the area is spacious so I was able to enjoy a leisurely stroll without it being crowded. The rice field art was also cute.
