The total land area of the Yuyuan Road Historical and Cultural Area is about 223 hectares. The streets in the area are pleasant in scale, the lanes along the route are rich in space, the building types are diverse, and the landscape is rich and varied. There are garden houses, new lanes, apartments and other buildings of different styles, as well as educational buildings that combine Chinese and Western styles, which fully reflect the Shanghai culture and historical context. At the same time, the route is characterized by urban renewal in large areas, covering different types of urban renewal cases in the past decade. Qishan Village: Lane 1032, Yuyuan Road, the fourth batch of excellent historical buildings, 70 three-story Chinese and Western-style buildings were jointly built by real estate developers such as the American China Business Company and the Central Trust Bureau between 1925 and 1931, plus the five four-story garden houses Dongyuan Villa built in 1924, a total of 75 buildings with a total construction area of about 14,000 square meters. The former residence of Wang Boqun is located at No. 31, Lane 1136, Yuyuan Road (now the Children's Palace of Changning District). It is a municipal cultural relic protection unit and one of the first batch of outstanding historical buildings. The building is a Gothic castle building, which was completed in 1934. It covers an area of 10.78 acres and has a main building area of about 2,100 square meters. The construction took four years and cost 300,000 silver dollars. Currently, visits are limited to the exterior of the building and the lawn garden. Zhongshan Park Marble Pavilion: No. 780, Changning Road, the third batch of outstanding historical buildings, located in Zhongshan Park. This marble pavilion donated by overseas Chinese Eslavia was built in 1935. The pavilion's pillars, stone steps, top flower stands, etc. are all made of white marble. East China University of Political Science and Law Changning Campus: No. 1575 Wanhangdu Road, a national key cultural relic protection unit and the second batch of excellent historical buildings. When it was first built, it was designed by Tonghe Foreign Trade Co., Ltd. and the British company Elder Company. Most of them are a combination of Chinese and Western styles, and most of them are now well preserved. When it was first established in 1879, it was named "St. John's College" and later renamed St. John's University. In 1952, East China Institute of Political Science and Law was established on the old site, and it was renamed East China University of Political Science and Law in 2007. Despite the changes, the campus still retains the spatial layout of the St. John's University period, which is a typical example of the modern Chinese and Western architectural style.
