Zijin Temple, also known as Jin'an Temple, is located west of Dongshan Town in the southwest suburbs of Suzhou. It was founded in the Liang and Chen dynasties and rebuilt during the Zhenyuan period of the Tang Dynasty. It has a history of more than 1,400 years. The sixteen clay sculptures and painted arhats on the left and right walls of the main hall are said to be the works of Lei Chao and his wife, famous folk sculptors of the Southern Song Dynasty; the eight statues on the back wall were added by Qiu Mituo in the late Ming Dynasty. The painted decoration of the group of arhats is exquisitely crafted and is a representative work of Suzhou sculpture and painting in the Qing Dynasty. People call the clay sculptures and painted arhats in Zijin Temple one of the "two and a half halls in the world". The Jingyin Hall behind the Luohan Hall was built entirely of nanmu wood and has now been turned into a display room for cultural relics in Wu County. The golden osmanthus and magnolia in front of the hall are said to have been planted for more than 800 years. The original wood has died, but the bark has sprouted, and now it is the second generation. Tingsongtang is a place in the nunnery for drinking tea and resting. Sitting by the window, you can listen to the sound of pine waves.
