Spain Westward ~ Zamora (Region)
The 12th-century Romanesque church is in the shape of a Latin cross, with five apses, three naves, and a large transept with four cross vaults. The two transept facades have a pair of similar doors decorated with images of the Evangelists. Inside the church, there are 13th-century Gothic sculptures, the most notable of which is the original painted sculpture of the Annunciation. The church's columns are diverse, featuring double sawtooth decorative patterns and rows of small leaves.
Small town ethnic museum
Spain Westward ~ Zamora (Region)
A very peculiar museum in the center of Puebla de Sanabria that allows you to get closer to their customs, as the big heads and giants are brought out in the parade of the celebration of the patron saint of Puebla de Sanabria. (September 7th and 8th, as far as we know), they will take them out in parades. These giants represent characters from the past and walk around the town, but they can be expensive to make as they can weigh up to 50 kilograms.

Castle of the Count of Benavente
Spain Westward ~ Zamora (Region)
Also known as the Castle of the Count of Benavente, it stands out among all the monuments in the town of Zamora Puebla de Sanabria, at an altitude of nearly 1,000 meters. It was built in the 15th century and its most notable feature is the massive donjon, which offers stunning views.
This square-shaped castle has been completely restored and is one of the best preserved in Spain. In addition to climbing to the top of the castle (also known as "El Macho"), visitors can also see the walls and visit various exhibition rooms. The interior is home to the fortifications' visitor center, which has four floors and contains interactive and audio-visual games about the history of the castle and town.
The northern part of the wall also includes the Governor's Palace, which houses the Sanabria Ecomuseum, the Cabareda Ecomuseum, the Terra Valley Ecomuseum, the Villafafila Ecomuseum and the Montesinho Park. It provides information about these regions and reconstructs the journey of the Pimentel family, Counts of Benavente, from Portugal to Sanabria many centuries ago.

National historical and artistic heritage town
Spain Westward ~ Zamora (Region)
Its location high above the confluence of the Tela and Castro rivers makes Puebla de Sanabria a strategic location and the site of many battles throughout history.
The town has been designated a Historic Art Site. It still retains much of the walls that once protected the city. Its magnificent castle dates from the second half of the 15th century and is a prototype of medieval defensive architecture. It is 960 meters high, situated on a wide flat stretch of land on the top of a hill occupied by the town, and has a regular plan, with a huge castle in the center, consisting of several floors and protected by a retractable bridge.
Near the castle is the parish church of Nuestra Señora del Azogue, built at the end of the 12th century. Inside there is a 13th century font with numbers inscribed on the front. The town’s narrow streets are also dotted with many ancestral houses and mansions decorated with ancient coats of arms, such as the 15th-century Town Hall in the main square. In addition to its beautiful historic area, the town also enjoys a unique natural environment, as its town area is located near the Sanabria Lake Natural Park. Its tranquil body of water covers 368 hectares and is 55 meters deep, making it the largest glacial lake in Spain.
