Otranto is one of those places in Puglia where you don’t need to spend much to have an unforgettable day. 🇮🇹🌊 Start by wandering through the beautiful historic centre, walk along the old city walls and explore the little streets filled with whitewashed buildings, cafés and sea views. Then head down to the waterfront for a swim — the water around Otranto is unbelievably clear and there are plenty of beaches and rocky coves nearby where enjoying the Adriatic costs absolutely nothing. 💙 For a cheap day out, grab a focaccia, panzerotto or pasticciotto from a local bakery and have lunch by the sea instead of sitting down at a restaurant. But here’s the reality of hiking here—it is wildly unpredictable: ☀️ The Weather: One minute you're basking in sunshine, the next you’re sprinting for your rain jacket. 🥵 The Pro-Tip: Do NOT skip sunscreen! I left with a sunburned face on a fully overcast day. Because of the high altitude in the Andes, those UV rays are absolutely unforgiving—even through the thickest clouds. 🦜 The Magic: Keep your eyes peeled. I spotted a colorful parrot peeking out from a hollow in an ancient trunk—its own little high-rise apartment in the sky! Essential Tips for Your Visit: Getting There: Take one of the colorful Willy jeeps from the main square in Salento. They leave early and fill up fast. The Route: You can walk straight to the main palm viewpoints (about 30-45 minutes) or do the full 5-6 hour loop through the cloud forest and swinging bridges.
