Visit the Coral Shell Temple: a magical temple that feels like being in the underwater world
#MarchGoodPlaces2025
The Coral and Shell Temple uses a large number of shells and corals for decoration. For example, the walls, beams, pillars, giant fish, incense burners, etc. are all made of shells. Hundreds of kinds of corals and tens of thousands of shells were used to complete it. It looks very strange and spectacular when viewed up close.
The temple was originally located in Sanzhi, New Taipei City, and was moved to Shimen District and opened to the public in early 2022. The new Shell Temple is larger and more beautifully decorated, and the newly built coral tunnel is particularly stunning.
At present, the temple has not been fully built, and only the first floor and the coral tunnel are open to tourists. If you want to visit the tunnel, you must first go to the temple to burn incense and pay homage to Master Jigong, and if possible, add some incense money.
