🌊 Strolling through downtown Sitka after our morning hike was the perfect way to spend our port day! We took a beautiful walk along the waterfront Sea Walk, soaking in the misty mountain views and fields of bright purple Alaskan fireweed blooming everywhere.
🌸⛰️ The absolute highlight of downtown was visiting the Sitka Sound Science Center. Since it’s August, we got to see the incredible Pacific salmon run in full swing! Watching the salmon leap up the outdoor fish ladder was mesmerizing. It is a fantastic, easy, and educational walk right from the heart of town.
🐟🚶♂️ After exploring, we took the free shuttle back to the ship. The coastal views right at the Sitka Norwegian port are absolutely breathtaking and look just like a postcard! Sitting out and watching the small tree-covered islands surrounded by calm, misty water was the perfect end to an unforgettable day. 🚢🏞️

It’s an easy-to-moderate, family-friendly excursion that gets you away from the port crowds and right into true Alaskan wilderness! 🥾🌊

Sitka is a small town that combines the indigenous Tlingit culture with Russian historical relics. It is the most complete place in Alaska where Russian colonial relics are preserved. It also has magnificent natural landscapes and cultural experiences.
⛪ St. Michael’s Cathedral
This domed green-roofed Russian Orthodox church is one of the earliest Russian churches in the United States and the most eye-catching landmark in Sitka. Although it was damaged by fire, it has been completely rebuilt. The interior displays exquisite religious paintings and Russian icons, which are worth entering.
🦅 Alaska Raptor Center
This is a conservation center dedicated to rescuing injured birds of prey, especially eagles and owls. You can observe the bald eagle spreading its wings up close and learn about local conservation work. It is a must-visit place for parents and nature lovers who combine education and touching moments.

Sitka has several small but beautiful art galleries that display many Tlingit crafts and Russian-influenced art works, such as woodcarving masks, totems, silver jewelry and watercolor paintings. It is a good place to learn about the local multicultural integration and find high-quality handmade souvenirs.

Alaska whale watching at Sitka
Wow, what a day in Sitka! ⚓️ This morning, we sailed into this incredible island town, surrounded by mountains and lush forests. We visited the Sitka National Historical Park, learning about the rich Tlingit culture and admiring the intricate totem poles. Totem Pole Park was a highlight! This afternoon, we took a thrilling whale watching tour and even spotted a humpback breaching and a group of Orcas! 🐋 The scenery here is simply breathtaking.
