It's the second-largest karst spring in Germany discharging up to 2,300 litres of water per second. 💠The main mystery: a bottomless lake People tried to measure the depth of Blautopf as early as 1718, but the plumb line showed only 19 metres. Modern data suggests 22 metres, but locals have considered the lake bottomless for centuries. Legend says a mermaid lives in it, tearing measuring ropes and dragging them to the bottom. 🎒What to do by the lake · Walk around — the lake is in the centre of the old town, next to Blaubeuren Monastery (Kloster Blaubeuren). When you set off on your first cruise, you really have no idea what to expect. You imagine the sea, the sun, beautiful cities, and the buffet... but you end up getting so much more. ❤️ My journey on the ASTORIA GRANDE from December 30th to January 6th was a total fairy tale and, without exaggeration, one of the best vacations of my life! ✨ It was love at first sight. It might not be the world's largest ship... but when I walked up to it, I just stopped and thought, "Wow, this is majestic!" It was my first cruise, and I fell in love with the ASTORIA GRANDE from the very first second. The welcome on board was incredibly warm and friendly. I immediately felt like a huge celebration was about to begin. 🚢 🌊 The storm and a bit of advice. Of course, it wasn't without its adventures. We headed out to sea just before New Year’s and hit a storm! 😂 I didn't feel great the first day and had to spend some time lying down. 👉 A pro-tip for first-timers: there’s a doctor on board, and you can get motion sickness pills at the reception desk. Just remember: the first day is always the toughest as your body adapts. That’s exactly what happened to me! After that first day, I was able to enjoy the cruise to the fullest. 🛏 The inside cabin—the perfect choice! We chose an inside cabin without a window, and it turned out to be a great move. I barely spent any time there anyway—only for sleeping and changing. I was out on deck all day! So, if you don't plan on hanging out in your room, an inside cabin is a fantastic way to save money. 💰 🍽 The FOOD—absolute love! Was it good? No. It was amazing! 😍 The variety, the presentation, the portions—and something new every single day. Honestly, I wanted to give the chef a standing ovation. Every meal was a little gastronomic celebration. 🎉 Entertainment and star-studded guests A cruise is about so much more than just food. Every day was packed with concerts, events, and a full schedule. There was never a dull moment! There are places where nature seems to have deliberately created scenery for legends. The Vorontsov Caves near Sochi are exactly that. You descend 60 meters underground, walk through halls with colorful lighting, listen to the sound of an underground river, and feel as if you’ve entered another world. And all around lies the Colchic forest, dense and humid - a place where it’s easy to believe in ancient mysteries. The Vorontsov cave system is one of the longest karst systems in Russia, with a total length reaching 11–12 km. The complex includes four caves: Vorontsovskaya, Labirintovaya, Dolgaya, and Kabaniy Proval. The upper level of Vorontsovskaya Cave is equipped for visitors: a route of about 500–600 meters with paths, bridges, and lighting that turns mineral formations into fairytale figures. The tour lasts 45–50 minutes, with a maximum depth of around 60 meters. Inside, you’ll find the Prometheus Grotto with massive stalactites and traces of ancient collapses, the Musical Hall and the Hall of Silence, underground streams, lakes, and even internal waterfalls. The walls preserve traces of inhabitants who lived here long before us: archaeologists have discovered Paleolithic human settlements in the caves dating back 35–40 thousand years, and even earlier, cave bears and other animals sought shelter here. But the magic of this place isn’t only underground. The Vorontsov Caves are surrounded by the relict Colchic forest, tens of millions of years old. Dense thickets of boxwood, ferns, and lianas, constant humidity, fog, and silence broken only by the sound of water create the feeling of an ancient, almost prehistoric world. Many call this forest mystical - here, time seems to flow differently, and the path you walk on remembers both prehistoric humans and wild beasts. 📌I recommend visiting in the morning or on weekdays to avoid crowds, and wearing comfortable shoes with a light jacket: the cave is cool and damp. Krasnaya Polyana is a place that completely shatters the "Soviet Sochi" stereotype. There are no basic check-the-box tourist traps here, but there is a level of service that will surprise even a seasoned traveler who has seen it all in Thailand . It's not just a ski resort; it's a year-round paradise for lovers of active holidays and stunning views. Winter brings perfect snow and slopes for all skill levels. Summer offers trekking through ancient forests and breathtaking panoramas from an altitude of 2,000+ meters . My Impressions I came here spontaneously, without high expectations, and was pleasantly shocked. First, the views here seriously give the seaside a run for its money. Second, the infrastructure: cable cars and hotels with incredible breakfasts (crepes with honey and morning champagne — that's next-level living) . The absolute highlight is the Bzerpinsky Cornice. It's an alpine plateau sitting at 2,063 meters in the Caucasus Nature Reserve . You hike through a fir forest, pop out at the Bear Gates (Medvezh'i Vorota), and boom — a 360-degree panorama of the Chugush, Achishkho, and Aibga peaks opens up before you . It's not just a walk; it's a real journey that completely flips your perception of Russian mountains. How to get there The easiest way from Adler or Sochi is taking the "Lastochka" high-speed train to the "Rosa Khutor" station or taking bus No. 105 . From there, hop on the "Gazprom" resort cable cars (the "Alpika - Pikhtovaya" or "Laura - Pikhtovaya" lines) to reach the trailheads . Prices (important!) · Ski-pass: from 8,100 ₽ for 5 days on the slopes . · Reserve entry fee: 500 ₽ per adult (available online on the Caucasus Nature Reserve website) . · Accommodation: during the low season (early June), you can score some great rooms in chain hotels at sweet prices . Lifehacks 1. Seasonality. During the off-season (June, late September), hotel prices drop, and the weather is still perfect for enjoying the mountains. Plus, there are practically no lines for the ski lifts . 2. Gear. If you don't want the hassle of bringing your own gear, renting directly at the resorts is pretty pricey. It's better to rent your equipment in Adler before heading up into the mountains — you'll save up to 30%. 3. Food. The restaurants in Rosa Khutor are pretty steep. To avoid overpaying, look for cafes in the village of Esto-Sadok — you'll find authentic spots that are much easier on the wallet . 4. Plan your time. Besides hitting the slopes, definitely set aside a day for a hike (the Bzerpinsky Cornice is top-tier) and an evening stroll through Esto-Sadok with those gorgeous mountain views. Krasnaya Polyana is a place you'll definitely want to come back to. It’s seriously awesome in any season, as long as you know where to go and what to look for. 🏔️

#easytravelpost The Kaçkar range on the Black Sea coast is Turkey's wettest alpine system; Ayder Plateau (1,350 m) is the trailhead for climbs to Samistal and the high lakes. I took an Istanbul–Trabzon flight (1,200 TRY), dolmuş to Rize, then Ayder dolmuş (120 TRY, 2 hrs, last one 17:00 from Rize otogar). Ayder entry is free, but the plateau parking is 50 TRY. From Ayder I walked the old mule road toward Yukarı Kavrun at 07:50. The first 3 km is meadow and hazelnut terraces, then the cloud forest: beech and fir dripping, moss on the trunks 2 cm thick, 13°C, fog at 09:00. By 10:30 at 1,900 m the moss is on the ground and the trail is a green tunnel; I heard a Caucasian grouse and saw fresh bear scat on a log. The plateau's hot spring (Ayder kaplıca, 200 TRY entry) steams below — I soaked at 16:00 after the walk, the moss on the changing-room roof smelling of sulphur and fern. Mistake: I wore a windbreaker and no midlayer — the cloud forest drops to 8°C by noon if fog stays; pack a fleece even in July. Another: the Ayder dolmuş fills by 15:00 in summer; I missed the return and paid 400 TRY for a taxi to Çamlıhemşin. Would you walk Ayder's mossy mule road to 1,900 m and soak in the 200 TRY sulphur spring after, or drive the plateau loop and skip the wet climb?

This is Russia too. 🌊 VLADIVOSTOK Expectation: ❄️ Endless snow and Soviet buildings. Reality: 🌊 Pacific Ocean 🌉 Huge bridges ⛰️ Hilly streets 🏝️ Islands ☕ Cafés overlooking the water It can look completely different from the Russia most foreigners imagine. 🏘️ AND THEN THERE ARE THE HISTORIC CITIES… Places like Suzdal, Vladimir, Kazan and many others add another layer: ⛪ Ancient churches 🏠 Wooden houses 🕌 Mosques 🏛️ Historic architecture 🌳 Quiet streets 🌿 Beautiful countryside And suddenly you realize… There isn’t one “Russian city.” Russia is enormous, and its cities have completely different identities, architecture and landscapes. So yes, you’ll find Soviet apartment blocks. You’ll also find imperial palaces. Modern skyscrapers. Historic wooden houses. Luxury shopping centers. Beautiful cafés. Massive parks. Beaches. And some spectacular metro stations. 🇷🇺 The biggest surprise isn’t that Russia has Soviet architecture. If you think you already know Türkiye because you have seen Istanbul, Cappadocia and the Mediterranean coast, there is another side of the country that feels completely different. Welcome to the Turkish Black Sea. 🌧️🌲 This is a region of dramatic green mountains, misty plateaus, dense forests, tea plantations, waterfalls, traditional villages and small coastal towns. The landscape changes constantly as you travel east, making it one of the most rewarding regions in Türkiye for a road trip. And honestly, this is not a journey I would recommend rushing. The best part of the Black Sea is often the road between the destinations. ⸻ 🗺️ My Suggested Black Sea Road Trip For a longer trip, I would plan the route approximately like this: Istanbul → Amasra → Sinop → Samsun → Ordu → Giresun → Trabzon → Uzungöl → Rize → Ayder → Artvin You can shorten the route depending on how much time you have, but if you have around 10–14 days, this itinerary gives you a wonderful mix of coast, mountains, culture and nature. ⸻ 🌊 1. Amasra — Where the Mountains Meet the Sea Start your Black Sea adventure in Amasra. This small coastal town is surrounded by rocky shores, green hills and beautiful sea views. Instead of treating it as a quick photo stop, spend some time walking through its historic streets, exploring the waterfront and enjoying a traditional Black Sea meal. The atmosphere here is much slower than in Türkiye’s major cities. It’s the kind of place where you can sit beside the sea with a cup of Turkish tea and simply watch the boats come and go. My tip: Stay overnight if you can. Amasra feels particularly peaceful after the day-trippers leave. ⸻ 🌲 2. Sinop — A Quiet Coastal Escape Continue east toward Sinop, one of the most peaceful stops along the route. Sinop combines a beautiful coastline with forests, historical sites and a relaxed harbor atmosphere. Hamsilos Bay and the surrounding natural areas are especially worth exploring. If you enjoy photography, this is a great place to slow down and capture the contrast between the dark green forests and deep blue Black Sea. And don’t leave without trying some fresh local seafood. ⸻ 🌿 3. Ordu — Green Hills Above the Sea As you continue toward the eastern Black Sea, the scenery becomes increasingly green. In Ordu, head up to Boztepe for a panoramic view of the city and coastline. This is one of those places where you really understand the geography of the Black Sea: mountains rising directly behind the city while the sea stretches endlessly in front of you. Spend some time exploring the city, but also leave room for the surrounding countryside. ⸻ 🍃 4. Giresun — Slow Down & Enjoy the Landscape Giresun is another great place to experience the quieter side of the region. The surrounding landscape is dominated by green hills, forests and traditional agricultural areas. The region is also famous for hazelnuts, while the broader Black Sea cuisine is known for fish, vegetables, tea, corn-based dishes and local dairy products. This is the kind of destination where I wouldn’t create a strict schedule. Find a local restaurant, order something regional and let the day unfold naturally. ⸻ 🏔️ 5. Trabzon — History Among the Mountains Then comes Trabzon, one of the most important stops in eastern Black Sea Türkiye. The city has a fascinating combination of history, culture and dramatic natural scenery. But the place I would prioritize is Sümela Monastery. Built dramatically into a steep mountainside, the monastery is surrounded by dense forest and feels almost hidden inside the landscape. The combination of architecture, history and mountains makes it one of the most memorable stops on this route. My tip: Don’t visit Trabzon only as a base for Uzungöl. Give the city itself some time too. ⸻ 💚 6. Uzungöl — The Iconic Black Sea Landscape From Trabzon, continue toward Uzungöl. A lake surrounded by steep green mountains, wooden buildings and misty landscapes — this is probably the image many travelers have in mind when they imagine the Turkish Black Sea. But there’s more to the area than taking a photo beside the lake. Walk around the surrounding area, explore the mountain roads and, if the weather is good, spend some time simply enjoying the scenery. And don’t worry if you wake up to clouds or mist. In the Black Sea, bad weather can actually make the scenery better. 🌫️ ⸻ 🍵 7. Rize — Welcome to Tea Country One of my favorite parts of the journey would be Rize. This is where the landscape becomes almost unbelievably green. Tea plantations cover the hillsides, and tea culture is an important part of everyday life in the region. Rize, along with Trabzon and Artvin, is one of Türkiye’s major tea-producing areas. Visit a tea garden, sit down for a glass of freshly brewed Turkish tea and look across the green hills. If you enjoy photography, this is a destination where you should definitely bring a wide-angle lens. My tip: Don’t just photograph the tea fields. Walk through them and look for the small roads, villages and mountain views around them. ⸻ 🏡 8. Ayder & Çamlıhemşin — Into the Mountains From Rize, head toward Çamlıhemşin and Ayder. This is where the trip becomes much more about nature and mountain life. Think: 🌲 Dense forests 🏔️ High plateaus 💦 Waterfalls 🌫️ Misty valleys 🏡 Traditional wooden houses 🌿 Mountain trails The area around Çamlıhemşin also offers opportunities for hiking, rafting and exploring highland villages. Fırtına Creek, for example, is known for rafting, while nearby highlands such as Pokut and Huser offer spectacular mountain scenery. If you have enough time, don’t just stay in Ayder. Go higher. The land on which it is located once belonged to the Volkonsky princely family, hence the name "Volkonsky." This dolmen is believed to be the only full-size, monolithic dolmen in the world (that is, carved from a single, enormous boulder) that has survived to this day. Others have different structures, often with separate floors and walls, and a roof slab. The purpose of these megaliths remains a mystery, and many theories exist. They were most likely not intended for burial, as most dolmens did not, and could not, contain remains; their openings are too small, or even missing, and their shape is too unique. Other dolmens have only two walls and a roof, a sort of stone table. Many have a stone plug, often found lying nearby. The Volkonsky Dolmen is enormous; you can climb inside, but it's best to treat the monument with care. Nearby is a mountain river and magnificent tropical scenery. A truly picturesque place! Also located next to the dolmen is a slab in which a strange, irregularly shaped depression has been carved out using multiple drilling (I've attached a photo). Who, when, and why did this is unknown. There are hundreds of dolmens in the Krasnodar Region, others are simpler, many are accessible; I've seen more than a dozen. Incidentally, one is located in the courtyard of the Sochi Museum of Local History. True, the ancients ground the giant stones perfectly, but our contemporaries, after dismantling this dolmen, were unable to properly reassemble it in its new location in front of the museum... Which is ironic, of course, because it seems to suggest that our technology is inferior to that of the ancients. 👀 This object, relocated to the city, is in my last photo. No one knows when the dolmens were built, as they were made of stone, and dating is done using carbon dating, based on organic remains.
