Trip Moments Recommendations
Delicious, Simple and Korean
📍13 Eonju-ro 135-gil, Nonhyeon-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul, South Korea
Located on a side street in the Nonhyeon neighborhood lies Garam Noodles, famous for their knife-cut noodles and savory pancakes or "jun" 🔪 🥞.
Unlike most noodle houses that use machines to make the dough, Garam still kneads the dough by hand every day and makes the pancakes fresh with each order-arriving at your table warm and delicious every time 🔥 😋.
The servers and interior both have a classic 80s vibe, but have aged well- you can often see three generations of families coming here not only for a nice meal, but to pass down time-honored traditions for future generations.
Prices are on the higher side for noodles (10 USD), but the location, parking, and English/Japanese menu make this establishment very accessible to foreign visitors.

The Undeniable Best of Best
📍26 Seoae-ro, Jung-gu, Seoul, South Korea
While the menu offers various North Korean specialties, Pildong Myeonok has specialized in their signature Pyeongyang naengmyeon for 50 years. Patrons can try the braised pork and dumplings🥟, but the true 🌟 of the show is the naengmyeon😋.
You can tell by the age of the shop and customers that this is 💯 percent a real "locals only" joint that has stood the test of time, just like their decor and staff.
The food is SUPERB and this place is a must if you like naengmyeon.
Prices are on the higher side for naengmyeon, about 💵 20 USD, but parking is available and there is rarely any wait...please go try this place if you're in the neighborhood!

The Grand Bazaar of Korea
📍 88 Changgyeonggung-ro, Jongno-gu, Seoul
If don't mind noise; crowded places; and sharing seats with random strangers, then Gwangjang Market should be on your bucket list.
Here you can find everything Korea has to offer- black market goods from the U.S. and Japan; rare regional delicacies from Korea combined with hundreds of street food stalls and restaurants.
While the majority of the food stalls serve similar Korean comfort foods, everyone should try the "yukhwae" or Korean beef tartar garnished with egg and pears.
The market can be overwhelming, but don't be afraid -just find a stall you like; select some delicious food, and enjoy your meal 😋. Most vendors speak several languages and the local patrons are eager to help, as well as share a strong drink with you 🍺.
.
Be warned! ⚠️ Only visit stalls that have prices posted upfront!
Most meals are between 5 and 10 USD. Paid parking is available and the market is easily accessible by subway.

Old School OG Place
📍186 Hangang-daero, Yongsan-gu, Seoul, South Korea
Pyeongyang-Jip is a no-frills, hole-in-the-wall Korean BBQ joint located near the mouth of Yongsan, Seoul.
Don't expect galbi or bulgogi- this place specializes in specialty cuts like brisket, intestines, and kidney: all the throw-aways that were consumed shortly after the Korean War. But the food is excellent and the vibe is 💯 local and genuine; this is the type of place you need to visit if you want old-school Korean vibes without breaking the bank.
I highly recommend the gobchang, chadolbaki, and yangbab
Most meat dishes are priced under 10USD and parking is available.

Probably the best in the Area
Yibong is a high-end beef restaurant. Prices are not cheap, but the food quality is excellent and the staff is also very attentive.
Having said that, the restaurant isn't pretentious or stuck-up- Yibong competes with others with the quality of their food alone.

Authentic North Korean Cusine in Seoul🇰🇷
Pyeongyang Myeonok offers an authentic taste of North Korean cuisine in a modest and 💯 percent local setting. The signature dish, Pyongyang-style cold noodles (naengmyeon)🍜, showcases delicate flavors with a refreshing broth, and their hearty dumplings (mandu)🥟 are made fresh from a secret family recipe passed down from generation.
The menu and decor are simple, but genuine at this family-owned neighborhood joint, and the food focuses on delivering quality North Korean comfort food.
Prices are reasonable and valet parking is available.

Delicious and unique
Takumigon is special even among the sushi omakase restaurants in Seoul for two reasons. First, the restaurant has stood the test of time and outlasted various competitors in the Seoul omakase scene. Second, while it is common practice to age fish to enhance texture and umami, no other restaurant ages the fish quite as long as Takumigon.
As such, the sushi is unique and I recommend this place to veteran sushi lovers, but maybe not to patrons who are just starting to try sushi.
Reservations are a must and prices range from 150,000 to 300,000 won.
