Prasat Neak Buos, The Ordained Dragon Temple
#2024wish
During my recent trip to Banteay Meanchey Province in Cambodia, I had the pleasure of visiting the magnificent Ordained Dragon Temple they called (Neak Buos Temple). This enchanting destination left a lasting impression on me with its breathtaking views and serene atmosphere. The moment I arrived, I was captivated by the beauty that surrounded me, instantly feeling a sense of tranquillity and relaxation.
Neak Buos Temple is an ancient temple complex with a diverse group of structures made of brick, sandstone, and laterite. It dates back to the late 7th century and has been expanded through the 9th, 10th, 11th, and last construction, a hospital chapel by Jayavarman VII in the 12–13th century. To reach the temple, take a dirt road eastward from Choam Khsant, passing Phnom Dap temple and heading south. From there, follow two tracks to the large baray, passing Prasat Kuk Bros and Prasat Kuk Srei. Accommodations can be found in Prei Vihear city or Choam Khsant, with three guesthouses in Choam Khsant and several more options in Sra’aem.
Historical images of the site include a beautiful site layout and two images from Henri Parmentier's 1939 publication L’Art khmer classique. The central sanctuary features an extraordinary brick tower with four false floors, pronounced pilasters, and a large, open doorway topped by a lintel featuring a frieze of ascetics and a centerpiece of Indra on Airvata supported by well-wishers. Remnants of a hall above the entrance and the remains of a terrace leading east are also visible.
You will be delighted by the stunning scenery of this place, creating unforgettable memories during your travels. #ancienttemples #historicallandmarks #localguides #preahviheartours #neakbuostemple
