Delicious lunch at Seoulite, D Palace, Jongno gu
#visitseoul
This restaurant, called Seoulite, is a subsidiary of the famous Hanilkwan beef restaurant. For lunch menu, they normally serves set menus. There are ranges from beef Bulgogi, Yukgaejang, beef ribs soup, fried octopus etc. Considering their fame within Seoul, their set lunch price is considerable cheap as compared to others. One can typically have a meal starting from KRW 12000-13000. I had this beef Bulgogi set meal for lunch and the taste is so authentic and grilled to perfection. It will be my frequent lunch spot from now onwards due to its proximity from my office.
Warehouse cafe at Seongsu, Daelim Changgo
#visitseoul
Seongsu, used to be the place where many old factories and warehouse were located. Now that many factories were either closed down or relocated by selling off due to rising property price, the remaining premises were converted to warehouse style cafe and restaurant. This cafe, called Daerim Changgo, means Daerim warehouse, is very nuique whereby they managed to convert the entire rundowned building onto a hipster style cafe to hangout. They specializes in Geisha cafe though they tend to be higher in price. Nonetheless it is a very good place for hangout with friends with a sip of coffee.
Seocho Music Culture District of Seoul 🎶
#visitseoul
Even if you don’t know South Korea’s music and media production are world class, you would know BTS and BlackPink right?
The Seocho-gu is famous for music schools, music instrument shops and being the cultural district of Seoul. It may not be the top touristy area but it’s certainly a special experience if you #visitseoul for a cultural encounter.
Since there are full time DJ students or artist trainees studying in that area, it is not difficult to bump into stylish youngsters who look similar to or even better than many celebrities- who knows they may be the next rock stars!

Seoul stole my soul 😍
To be honest, I wasn’t quite sure what to expect from Seoul… I had come from backpacking Taiwan to then backpack South Korea and man… this city BLEW. MY. MIND 🤯
Seoul puts my home city of Melbourne into perspective a lot more. Seoul is huge, lively and happy whilst also maintaining a very business oriented vibe through the daily hustle and bustle.
I would recommend visiting for at least 4 days and definitely check out the DMZ (to come in another post 😉).
For English speakers, be aware that English is limited in South Korea. As with every country, I highly suggest learning your basic phrases such as hello, goodbye, thank you, etc. Download the google translate app before you arrive and have Korean downloaded into your phone for when you need translation when you may not have data…
Be sure to get out of your comfort zone with food when you come to Seoul! The markets are insane and I’m sure there are food there that’s you’ve never even imagined before 🤤
E-sims will be one of your greatest assets whilst travelling! here are some tips when it comes to purchasing your e-sim:
- Ensure your phone is compatible with e-sims (some older model phones may not have the function yo have an e-sim!!)
- Work out how many days you are away thus, how long of an e-sim you’ll need (there are heaps of different length plans, from 1 day to 365 days!)
- Do you use your phone for EVERYTHING (like me 😅) or will you only use it when absolutely necessary? This will determine how much data you need. If my plan doesn’t have unlimited data, I typically go by the rule of 1 gigabyte per day (use wifi for those Netflix binges 😆)
I have used two different e-sims during my travels; the first was the Asia e-sim with Maya Mobile and I have used this e-sim twice whilst travelling. This e-sim cost me $89 AUD for 30 days of unlimited data usage (I ended up using ~30 gigs! well worth it for me).The second was a 30 GB for 30 days e-sim with Mobi-Matter. This one was ~$60 AUD (currently still using it!!)

Piggy Bank Restaurant
#visitseoul #pork #grill Piggy Bank restaurant is located in Hongdae, Seoul, South Korea. The highlight of this restaurant is that you can grill your pork on the stone. There are many sets for you to choose and you can put your stuff under the seat as well, so your stuff will not get the food odor. Furthermore, if you would like to go to toilet, you have to get the code/password to enter the toilet. However, the toilet is located next to the restaurant.
Photogenic Seoul
#visitseoul
Seoul gives out a combination of cultural and contemporary vibe - the traditional architecture, clothings and decorations makes you want to study its history more, while the kpop music and dramas push you to keep up with modern information technology.
The media scene is very developed in Seoul - from music production courses to artist training, this city is famous for producing the highest quality talents in the global market - look at BTS and BlackPink!
That’s why apart from visiting for the food, the fashion or beauty products, going for a short media course is an excellent option too!

Saemaeul Tradirional Market at Songpa Area
#visitseoul
Buying groceries is the norm for most people especially for those who cooks frequently at home. In Seoul, one usually does their shopping at Supermarkets or the traditional markets. This traditional market in Songpa gu is the one I usually visit due to its choices and economical prices. What make things exciting is that there are so many choices to be chosen and the price is much cheaper that the mart itself. For instance, I can customize the size of the pork belly I want by requesting the store owner to slice them based on my requested thickness which this cannot be done in mart. Furthermore, there is an event of 10% discount if you pay by an app called zero pay. At times of high inflation, the traditional market offers a cushion to help those low income family to stride thru, offering cheap and good quality groceries to all.

Besides getting to know the culture, I am extremely interested at the food booth being a food lover myself. There are numerous booths offering their local delicacies and we just feel like having them all, thus we just get a little of each from each booth and savour them bit by bit. This is indeed a very nice festival to foster friendship among countries and induce harmony through culture and food.

Top 3 Steakhouse in Seoul, Butcheli House
#visitseoul
Preparing a steak seems easy, but a well and fine texture is very difficult to be achieved. This restaurant located at the Hannam area of Seoul is very famous for its Steak course. Crispy at the outside and tender in the inside, the steak is prepared at perfection at the medium rare standard . Other dishes such as the garlic bread, truffle oil fries, shrimp in hell and cheese with asparagus is also a hit. The vongole pasta is extremely nice as the shells was still alive before cooking which gives a taste of freshness to the pasta. Will definitely come again in other special occasion. Do remember to reserve as space is likely not available for walk in.

Ihwa 🎨🖼️🖌️👩🎨
This was my eight trip to South Korea since 2006 when I came here first time as a backpacker, fell instantly in love with the country, the food and the people. Therefore I have come back regularly over the years to visit friends that I have come to know in Norway or China. However, it was my first time to visit Ihwa. We walked from Anguk and easily found the starting point of the village that is located on a hill. We did not have to walk far before we saw some of the murals that we were looking for 👀 we did a quite steep walk uphill and found a perfect little bar with a garden to share some wine before walking down the hill and on to the next adventure. The mural village is in the midst of a residential area so we could see a lot of elders hanging out on the street corners and benches around.
