Autumn foliage in Fukushima
Tonohesturi Bridge is one of the must see tourist spots in Fukushima. Hesturi is an old Aizu dialect meaning “cliff overlooking a river”. It is said that a long time ago, this place was once the sea. After long years of erosion and weathering, this 200 meter long cliff acquired a unique atmosphere, consisting of different kinds of shapes and sizes. Because of this Tonohetsuri has been acknowledged as a Nationally Designated Natural Monument.
To see the bridge and cliff over the river, get off at Tonohetsuri Station and walk down the path, then Turn right when you hit the road. It is about a 10 minute walk, as the station and the bridge are 300 meters apart. There are many shops selling souvenirs and snacks along the way. It is worth it to step inside and have look around, because they sell merchandise available only in Fukushima.

Fall Breeze and Autumn Leaves in Japan
One of the best places to admire the autumn colors in Wakayama Prefecture is in the mountains of Koyasan. The best time to visit this place is late October until early November. Expect a crowd of tourist on this place so better go early to enjoy the experience. You can reach Koyasan from Gobo, Wakayama for about 1.5Hrs by car. Be ready with a cold weather since this place is situated in a mountain. More than the different colors of autumn leaves, you can enjoy the huge temples. It is said to be the home of 100 buddhist temples.

Hitachi Seaside’s Kochia
I was so happy to see the kochia at its brightest last week in October. It was scarlet red color that only lasted about a week before it turned brown. It looked like a red blanket on the mountain. For those who prefer an easier way to explore, you can rent bikes or take the shuttle bus to tour the whole area. There was a carnival in the area as well.
