Hong Kong Pop Culture Festival Launches Martial Arts Drama Costume and Prop Exhibition
Organized by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD), the second Hong Kong Pop Culture Festival (Cultural Festival) adopts the theme 'Both Literary and Martial Arts', featuring a variety of exciting events. Among them, the 'Both Literary and Martial Arts' series includes the 'Classic Martial Arts Drama Costume and Prop Exhibition', which starts on April 17th at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre lobby. The exhibition showcases around thirty pieces of headwear, costumes, and props from television martial arts dramas spanning from the 1970s to the millennium, allowing the audience to relive the classics and experience the martial arts sentiment.
Many well-known martial arts drama series have been adapted from the works of local famous martial arts novelists, including Jin Yong's 'The Return of the Condor Heroes', 'Demi-Gods and Semi-Devils', 'The Legend of the Condor Heroes', 'The Smiling, Proud Wanderer', Huang Yi's 'A Step into the Past', and Liang Yusheng's 'The White-Haired Witch'. Martial arts TV dramas and their related theme songs and soundtracks bring the literary and martial arts scenes from the novels to life. These classic moments have always been an important element of Hong Kong's pop culture, accompanying many viewers as they grew up.
Selected exhibits for this exhibition include: the hero costume worn by Yang Guo in 'The Return of the Condor Heroes'; the elegant and ethereal white dress worn by Little Dragon Girl; the pink outfit worn by Zhou Zhiruo in 'The Heaven Sword and Dragon Saber'; and the costume of Princess Changping (Ah Jiu) in 'Sword Stained with Royal Blood'. Prop exhibits include the Dragon Saber from 'The Heaven Sword and Dragon Saber', which caused a bloodbath; the Dog Beating Staff, the symbol of the Beggar's Sect leader in 'The Legend of the Condor Heroes'; the flute of 'Eastern Heretic' Huang Yaoshi; the sword of Lian Ni Chang, the protagonist of 'The White-Haired Witch'; the fan of the male protagonist in 'Chu Liuxiang'; and the knife of Li Xunhuan in 'Sentimental Swordsman, Ruthless Sword'. The exhibition runs until May 5th and will move to the Hong Kong Heritage Museum on May 8th to continue until October 7th.
To enrich the audience's experience, the 'Both Literary and Martial Arts' series also includes the 'Literary Songs and Martial Music Concert'. Veteran musician Au Sui Keung will perform many popular martial arts drama theme songs and his classic hits live. Each concert will also feature performances by young singer Au Hing Chun and a special guest. Additionally, there will be a song request segment, allowing the audience to revisit their favorite tunes.
Edible Flowers and Herbs Exhibition at Hong Kong Park
The Leisure and Cultural Services Department will hold an Edible Flowers and Herbs Exhibition at the Forsgate Conservatory in Hong Kong Park from April 22 (Monday), allowing citizens to closely appreciate the beauty of various edible flowers and herbs of the spring season.
Hong Kong's spring climate is mild with gradually lengthening daylight hours, which is suitable for the growth of different types of edible flowers and herbs. This themed exhibition displays more than 500 plants of different forms of spring edible flowers and herbs, including fragrant marigolds, dwarf hibiscus, dryland lotus, borage, calendula, and a variety of herbs, etc.
The flowers and leaves of fragrant marigolds have a rich aroma and are all edible. The tender leaves can be used for tea brewing and cooking, and planting them in a herb garden is most appropriate.
The light pink flowers of the dwarf hibiscus are small and exquisite, and although they only last for a short day, they bloom continuously.
The flowers, leaves, and rhizomes of the dryland lotus (also known as golden lotus) are all edible, with a taste as sweet and slightly spicy as mustard, and a crisp and juicy texture, also with a unique scent.
As for herbs, the humid spring is particularly suitable for the growth of mint family plants. Common types include green mint (also known as spearmint), peppermint, grapefruit mint, etc.
In addition to displaying more than 30 types of spring edible flowers and herbs, the exhibition also sets up panels to introduce their characteristics, planting tips, and propagation methods. The exhibition will be held from April 22 to June 10, open daily from 9 am to 5 pm at the Forsgate Conservatory, 19 Cotton Tree Drive, Central, Hong Kong Park. Admission is free, and the public is welcome to visit.
Hong Kong Space Museum presents the new 3D dome film 'Polar Extremes 3D'.
Starting from April 1st (Monday), the Hong Kong Space Museum's Stanley Ho Space Theatre will be screening the new 3D dome film 'Polar Extremes 3D', taking audiences on an exploration of Antarctica.
Antarctica is the coldest, driest, and windiest place on Earth. 'Polar Extremes 3D' will lead audiences deep into the Antarctic animal world, starting with a dive beneath the ice into a vibrant underwater world, then returning to the surface to join a large penguin colony, and finally enjoying what may be the most whales ever seen on screen. Whales play a key role in mitigating climate change, and the film not only provides a visual spectacle for viewers but also helps them understand the impact of human overhunting of whales on climate change. With global temperatures rising, the film prompts humans to reflect and take action to protect the Antarctic ecosystem, to prevent climate change from disrupting its balance and further affecting the whole world.
The program is 24 minutes long and will be shown until January 13, 2025. Screening times are 2:00 PM and 6:30 PM on weekdays; and 12:30 PM and 5:00 PM on weekends and public holidays. Ticket prices are 24 HKD (front seats) and 32 HKD (back seats). Tickets are now available at the Hong Kong Space Museum Box Office and URBTIX.
The Hong Kong Space Museum is located at 10 Salisbury Road, Tsim Sha Tsui, Kowloon, and is closed on Tuesdays (except public holidays).
Sooper Yoo
Totally missed this one out 😂 We were there before indoor playhouse required vaccine pass (VP) for kids under 12.
Having a 10,000 square foot space, Sooper Yoo offers a place to explore, climb, learn and play. There are different areas and sections, the first 2 are my kids’ favourite
1. Scramble Course is a 2-3 level maze with slides, climbers and obstacles along the way
2. Yoozoo Racer is an interactive game where kids run alongside animated animals to test their running speed on track
3. Sooper Slap is a game to test their agility and reaction
4. VR cave is pretty common now, virtual world with games, kids basically just smacking the wall to hit the target
There are other like Formula Yoo Sooper Loop (race remote control cars by riding the bike, for kids 130cm and above), Sooper Kix (a VR version of soccer game) and Digi Decks (table games on digital).

Well, it’s clean and new and fancy but it’s a been there done that thing for us. I highly doubt it’s for age 4 to 17. More likely suitable for age 4 to 8.
Although we prefer outdoor activities, I understand there are parents who feel more comfortable and safer being indoors, especially when the adults taking kids to play are grandparents or helpers.

Tsuen Wan's brand new playhouse 🏢🎭
[#KidsIndoorPlayground] [#NewPlayhouse]
When the weather is freezing, it's best to choose an indoor playground! Recently, a large playhouse has opened up at Tsuen Wan's West Plaza88. The venue is over 8,000 sq. ft, it's really huge!
I love playing in the sandpit the most, the sand is colored in vivid colors, and the grains are very fine, so even if children step on them, their feet won't hurt! Plus, there are staff members in every area to help out. Sometimes the staff will even play with the children, which is really great! 👍🏻
For the first time, I saw an animal hospital 🏥 in a playhouse. It's so lifelike, with x-rays for detailed examinations. Children can play as little veterinarians, it's so much fun!
There are three types of slides 🛝 to choose from, suitable for any age, and there are two types of ball pits, one is an AR game, and the other is a big ball pit where the balls can fly up. Kids can jump and run to their heart's content without any problems!
This playhouse is really big and clean, with lots of staff. I often see staff members vacuuming and cleaning 🧹, it's really reassuring to play here! On weekdays, you can play for two hours for only $200, which includes one adult and one child! We will definitely come back to play!

Jasmine & Mama - Kathryn小喬 Play Garden at Tsuen Wan Plaza
Tsuen Wan Plaza Shopping Centre underwent a huge renovation, upgrading its rooftop playground with a range of new equipment with colourful rainbow theme. Colourful rubber granules flooring are used to create a soft surface providing protection against accidents.
The playground is separated into different sections:
1️⃣ Rainbow Sky Tower
- The tower is 8 metre height with 3 slides in different directions, 2 of them at 4.8 metres and 3.3 metres above ground. Kids who enjoyed the excitement and not afraid of heights definitely spend more time here.
2️⃣ Climbing Castle
- For climbers like my kids, they’ll enjoying finding ways to climb from one to another end of the castle.
3️⃣ Twirling Rope
- Climbing on a spinning rope ain’t easy, it takes up some balancing and working on gross motor skills.
4️⃣ Mini Hills
- There are few mini hills equipped with stairs, ropes, tubes, slides.. perfect place to play tag if you ask me.
Of course, there are areas for younger kids with simpler equipment like the bouncy cloud, musical tubes, baby swings and slides.
To avoid crowds, we were there from 1-2:30pm on weekdays.
Refreshment: Mc Donald’s right next to it
Toilet: There are one with water refill dispenser next to it in between the playground, or simply walk inside to the use the mall toilets
Shaded: Not really. Some areas at the benches are covered but not the play area
Enclosed: Yes

Christmas Staycation 🎄
[#ChristmasStaycation]
Even before stepping into December, we can already feel the strong Christmas atmosphere! So, we decided to have a quick two-day-one-night staycation at Auberge Discovery Bay Hong Kong.
Located in Discovery Bay, the hotel has a charming European vibe with stunning Christmas 🎄 decorations. We booked a sea view room with breakfast included via Trip.com for only HKD 1,700, which is such a great deal for a Friday and Saturday stay! 😁
Unfortunately, due to the rain and cold weather, we couldn't swim in the pool. But it didn't dampen our spirits as we spent a relaxing time soaking in the bathtub in our room. The next morning, we enjoyed a delicious breakfast 🥣 buffet with a wide variety of food options.
After breakfast, we headed to the playroom, where we found plenty of claw machines 🧸 and a slide with a breathtaking sea view. There was also a small corner with books for the little ones to read. Although the playroom was small, it was enough to keep us entertained for quite some time!
Finally, the highlight of our stay was the horse-riding activity. We made a reservation one day in advance, and the next day, we got to take photos with the horses and even fed them up close. Both kids and adults were thrilled, and it only cost HKD 35 per person!
If you're planning a stay in December, don't miss the "Magical Winter Snow" event every Saturday and Sunday at Discovery Bay, where you can take photos with Santa Claus! Overall, our two-day stay at Auberge Discovery Bay Hong Kong was perfect for us.

Must visit family-friendly hotel! Grand Hyatt in Wan Chai with zero negative reviews! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Last week, after introducing some great spots along the Wan Chai waterfront, of course we had to have a staycation in Wan Chai! After playing with electric cars and water bikes, we checked into the Grand Hyatt Hong Kong for a three-day, two-night staycation. We stayed in a sea-view suite last year, and the unforgettable experience of indulging in seven meals over 30 hours made us decide to stay there again 😌
This time, we chose to stay at the Grand Hyatt by taking the MTR to the Convention and Exhibition Centre station, which felt similar in distance to walking from the Wan Chai MTR station or pier. We booked a night in a guest room and a night in a deluxe sea-view room with a package deal that included a dinner for two at Cafe ONE, a breakfast buffet, and a Tiffin afternoon tea set to go, all for a total of $1,800 (thanks to a $800 discount from Trip Coins) + $2,800. I personally think the latter deal was really worth it!
The guest room check-in was on the 30th floor, where we stayed on a floor above that included lounge access for afternoon tea, cocktails 🥂 at sunset, and breakfast the next day. I found the food quality and service of the Grand Club to be high during my last visit, and although the service remained consistent this time, the food quality was not as good due to more people coming on weekdays 🤷🏻♀️ The dumplings in the breakfast noodles tasted like soup base from instant noodles, and the desserts weren't as good as before 🥹 Nevertheless, with a child in tow, the guest room was still convenient! After check-in, we went straight to the lounge for afternoon tea, then went swimming, had a cocktail at sunset (for dinner), and finally played at the amusement park, ate ice cream 🍦, and played in the bathtub🛁. It was definitely a fulfilling stay!
As a family-friendly hotel, children receive gifts 🎁 upon check-in, including masks and ice cream coupons 🍦. They can go to Grand Cafe to redeem their ice cream, and the vanilla flavor is really delicious! The hotel pool is open in time slots, with Friday to Sunday and public holidays requiring reservation in the morning of the same day, while walk-ins are welcome on weekdays. Since the Marriott has now become a quarantine hotel, the utilization rate of the swimming pool and playground facilities is not too high. However, note that the amusement park is also open in time slots, and reservations need to be made at the concierge. Everyone must plan their time carefully to make full use of all the facilities. We have previously introduced the swimming pool and amusement park on the 11th floor, which has multiple slides 🛁 and recreational facilities suitable for children of different ages, and a large swimming pool 💦 with a constant temperature wading pool. Shawn and his brother had a great time😃 There is also an indoor playroom on the VIP floor. Even if it rains, there is a TV, cooking set and tent. Although small, it has everything you need👍🏻
Whether it's a sea-view or garden-view room, a free extra bed is available for children, and each room has an open bathtub...
Families must visit the Four Seasons Hotel! It features a stunning swimming pool, breakfast included, and plenty of family activities! 🏊♀️🍳👨👩👧👦🎉
Shawn finally had the long-awaited Four Seasons Hotel staycation 🌿! Besides being known for its kids-friendly atmosphere, the swimming pool was the highlight of the trip. Unfortunately, the weather wasn't as expected, as the wind was blowing hard. Luckily, this time the weather wasn't too bad and the swimming pool was still open 😌.
We booked a brand new luxurious mountain view room that included breakfast and a three-course dinner for two people.
Swimming pool: No reservation needed, there were signs indicating that each room could use the pool for one and a half hours. We were worried about the typhoon affecting the pool's opening, but we only had to wait a bit, and the pool reopened after the storm had passed. People took advantage of the waiting time to take photos and were served drinks by the staff. That day, it was kiwi juice, and even though it was cloudy and they didn't serve ice cream, the kids still had a great time 💦. Please note that the route from the room to the pool has air conditioning, so dress accordingly.
Food: For breakfast, you could choose to dine at Argo, the Lounge, or in-room. As we preferred a buffet-style breakfast, we chose to go to Argo. The breakfast time was from 07:00 to 10:30, and during weekends, there were many people, so it was recommended to go before nine. Because of the crowd, it took a while for the utensils and drinks to arrive, but the staff was very helpful. The food quality and selection were satisfactory. The most impressive items were the fruits, juices, and coffee, as well as the noodles, omelets, and boiled eggs. For dinner, we had it in-room and we recommend making an early reservation. You could choose a three-course dinner, and it was not bad.
Service: The wait time for check-in was reasonable, and the staff was very concerned about hygiene, constantly disinfecting, and making guests feel safe. All the staff had excellent attitudes. During swimming time, the staff delivered cookies and DIY cupcakes to the room, so the kids could have snacks while playing. You could also book the Playroom and Board game through the concierge. All of them were free, and you never have to worry about getting bored~ The Playroom consisted of two rooms connected together, and each session was 45 minutes. There was a limit on the number of people allowed and it was only open during weekends. Each room could rent two board games, and they were only returned when checking out.
Room: The newly renovated room was very spacious, comfortable, and suitable for families. Based on previous experience, it was better to book a city view room to avoid being affected by the weather. The children's tent we requested was arranged, and the mid-size slippers were white, while the small ones were blue or pink, which was very cute 🥰. The bathroom was large, with both a shower and a bathtub, and there were plenty of towels and bath products with a pleasant scent. There was also a turn-down service, and the coffee machine, tea, and drinking water were of high quality.
Birthday: We were celebrating my little brother's birthday🎂, and the hotel gave us a chocolate birthday cake.
Surroundings: There were many restaurants and Michelin-starred restaurants inside the hotel and mall. You could walk to the pier or the Ferris wheel nearby, but it was better to return home early on windy days~
Overall, this place was perfect for families, and they catered to the needs of children. Kids could have fun until the very last minute. We hope to try the Michelin-starred restaurants and VIP rooms next time~

"BETTER TOGETHER Tongchuang • Tongle Education Festival"
Today, the big M, about his cousin, Ratchet Dragon, participated in the PMQ "BETTER TOGETHER Tongchuang • Tongle Education Festival"
The rainbow seven-color game stalls in the field attracted my attention, but the game stalls are not simple. The team knows that children spend most of the school year online classes and have less interaction with others, so they have specially planned a series of creative games to let children learn team spirit through games, while stimulating empathy and troubleshooting ability.
Children can also meet like-minded friends through activities, connect in real life, practice "#explore together", "#play together", "# grow together".

Museum of Climate Change (MoCC)
Located on the Chinese University Campus, the Jockey Club Museum of Climate Change is sure to be one of our surprisingly good and worthwhile places to be. Established to raise public awareness of the impact of global warming, hence climate changes. It is divided into four sections: Polar Gallery, Remote Sensing and Environmental monitoring, research and innovation, green gallery.
I couldn’t decide which section are kids favourite because they spent equally long at each. The collections at Polar Gallery shows the effects of global warming and climate change resulting ice melting at the poles, where life of polar bears are on the line.
The remote sensing and environment monitoring definitely further explain and strengthen the ideas through videos and photos, along with some interactive multimedia presentations of different environmental and climate information. Kids were impressed with the application of geographic information in how the Earth is changing over years.
Research and innovation section probably the least attractive one for my kids. And I don’t blame them because it’s sure not something their age ( a 5.5yo and 7yo) would understand. I tried explaining but there’s just too specific and too much for kids to understand the research developments and technology advances in these field.
The last section, which is the green gallery, push hard on the idea “environmental efforts require community’s support”. With multimedia interactive exhibits and games, it promotes and aims to have the community get involved in waste reduction, sustainable and live a greener lifestyle.

It is definitely the most happening exhibition in town! Not only among the parents (I don’t know why but most kids seems to have certain level of fascination with dinosaurs) and of course the dinosaur fans.
Hong Kong Science Museum is currently showcasing 8 of the most iconic species, including T-Rex 暴龍, Triceratops 三角龍, Spinosaurus 棘龍, Allosaurus 異特龍, Hesperosaurus西龍, Diplodocus 梁龍, Hatzegopteryx 翼龍 and baby sauropod 蜥腳類恐龍. Hence, calling the exhibition, the Big 8. I am surprised and impressed by the amount of original fossil materials and reconstruction of the skeletons dinosaurs. It’s really informative and in a way, quite interactive to attract children’s attention.
Exhibition period from 8 July to 16 November 2022
Location: 2/f exhibition hall of science museum
Opening hours: 10am to 7pm (weekend and oh to 9pm)

😮💨: The grass were soaked with heavy shower the morning we arrived, and it became all muddy. The 2 days we were there, kids couldn’t run freely because of that.
👍: The campsite’s toilet/ shower is probably the cleanest I’ve even been. Kudos for that! Convenient shop with food and drinks, tent is tidy and playground is clean.

Peppa Pig’s Happy Day Interactive Play
If you have kids around you, you would’ve heard of Peppa Pig. It’s widespread among parents and children. It’s episodes of story of Peppa, who lives on a hill with Mummy Pig, Daddy Pig and little brother George. Although it’s a very famous cartoon, my kids knew them, we watched a couple of episodes but I decided to stop for a couple of reason. Honestly, I didn’t think kids should watch too much of Peppa Pig or Cocomelon 🫣
Anyway, there’s a Peppa Pig event at Kowloon Bay, it’s called the Happy Day Interactive Play! You must’ve seen blogger/ influencer posting about it. So, here’s the thing, I don’t just sweeten the package; readers know I give honest opinion. And this event, is definitely no go for kids 6 and above.
There are different sections; vr interactive running, matching game on screen, slide with a sleight, vr jump into puddles and farm activities, train tracks, trampolines and more. BUT they are designed for toddlers, meaning kids age 1.5 to 5.
So, if you’re a Peppa Pig fans, or you have kids 1.5 to 5, your kids might enjoyed this event a lot more than my kids 🫣
Event date: 2022/06/25 – 2022/09/12
Different sessions from 10:30-19:00
Address: FT life tower, Kowloon Bay

Po Kwu Wan 曝罟灣 Adventure
It’s a hidden bay of Sai Kung, next to Sheung Yiu Trail and close to high island reservoir. It’s special with its half moon shape concrete embankment.
Starting point located in Sai Kung Country Park, follow the signs to Pak Tam Chung Nature Trail(北潭涌自然教育徑)/ Sheung Yiu Family Walk (上窯家樂徑), passing a beautiful lake-like creeks heading to Sheung Yiu Folk Museum and the swamp with mangroves.
First stop would be Hei Tsz Wan (起子灣)pier. From there, we spontaneously took an adventure trip, coasteering to the direction of Po Kwu Wan. It’s actually pretty straightforward, just walk along the coastline.
We started early on Sunday morning, bump into a handful of people at Po Kwu Wan and few groups at Yuen Ng Fan view point, only a couple of fishermen while coasteering and non when hiking out to Man Yee Road.
Distance: approx 6km
Difficulty: Easy Intermediate
Duration: approx 3.5 hours
How to get there:
- Take bus 94 heading to Wong Shek Pier from Sai Kung; Get off at Sheung Yiu Bus Stop
- If you’re driving and want to be as close to the starting point as possible, go early and you may find a spot at Sai Kung Country Park Visitor Centre
- Or you could park at the metres car parks along Tai Mong Zai Road and hop on to taxi or bus 94

Yim Tin Tsai 鹽田梓
It’s a small offshore island under Sai Kung District. The only salt pans in Hong Kong, and an island filled with swampy mangroves and Hakka cultural. Former villagers returned to the island to preserves their traditional way of life and way of making salt.
We took a trip to Yim Tin Tsai before the “5th wave”. It’s a 15 minutes boat ride from Sai Kung Pier to Yim Tin Tsai.
Arriving at 9:30 in the morning, we have plenty of time to explore the island. Hence, decided to take a hike around the island, passing St Joseph Cathedral where the museum dedicated to Hakka life is right next to it, heading uphill to the Twin Pavilion, downhill to a T junction, we stop by Jade-Girdle Bridge that’ connects Yim Tin Tsai island to The Jockey Club Kau Sai Chau Public Golf Course before returning to the junction and heading back to the pier.
Our tickets includes the entrance to cultural museum and salt pans. It’s easy to understand, my k2 boy and p1 girl definitely learn something out of it, and got to see the tools used in old days for real.
We traveled with 好姐 at the pier, her booth is close to the restaurant. Charging $70 per adult, $50 for kids age 4-12 and senior age 65 above. There are restaurant and public toilets at the pier.
For those who’s interested to visit the Salt & Light Preservation Centre (鹽光保育中心), take note that they closed on Monday.

Farm in the City
One of the place highly recommended by our local friends. It’s better than Zoo Negara , they said. At least it’s clean and animals are taken care of, they said. Apparently, the national zoo of Malaysia hasn’t been coping well with covid, and though I felt a tiny bit of guilt for not supporting, it does give me other reasons not, such as it’s inconvenient location, pictures of skinny and seemingly depressing animals sent by others.
So, we went to the Farm in the City. It’s a mini zoo at Sri Kembangan, Selangor. There are few hundreds of species. A couple of free flight bird aviary with enclosure; Reptiles cavern to see the python up close; quite a big lake with swans , pelicans, shelduck , koi swimming freely; and the impossible “Longkang” (ditch) fishing with a bucket and net. Visitors are allowed to pet and feed many animals. We pet the geckos, porcupine, rabbit; fed the giant tortoises, raccoons, swan, fish, birds.
Among the animals encountered, our favourite is feeding the raccoons. They came up to the log, and took the pallets from kid’s hands with their tiny paws. Surprisingly gentle and adorable.

Brick Hill
When kids have too much screen time (few hours of zoom classes), sports centres & indoors activities closed, and there’s no playground for them to waste some energy… they became emotionally unstable, unable to focus and basically showing impact on their mental health and overall well-being.
Please, I’m not interested in adding on screen time, so don’t recommend the online exercise or switch’s just dance/ sport related game.
I still prefer outdoor activities with kids. We normally do it early to avoid the crowd. Trust me, 80-90% of the people prefer sleep in and starting their day after brunch. Hence, when we took a hike to Brick Hill, it’s pretty much just us and a handful of other hikers.
Speaking of Brick Hill or better known as Nam Long Shan is a hill near Wong Chuk Hang, overlooking Ocean Park, deep water bay and sham wan.
Difficulties : 2 out of 10
Scenic : 6 out of 10 ( we went on a gloomy day )
Duration ⏱ : approx 1.5 hours (round trip)
Distance: approx 5km
How to get there:
- MTR wong chuk hang station and walk uphill to Canadian International School ( you’ll pass by Singapore International School) and the entrance is nearby
- Bus 48, 72A, 75 and 107 that stops at Wong Chuk Hang terminal

Luk Keng to Kuk Po
Found another family friendly hiking trail ! It’s a round trip, easy route with tasty snacks and food in between.
It’s Sunday, to avoid crowd, we arrived at 9.30am, parked our car at Fanling then hail a taxi to Luk Keng. The hiking trail is pretty straight forward. Got off at Luk Keng’s BB happy store, walk along Bride’s Pool Road, then take the left road towards Fat Kee Store. The starling inlet/ mangrove swamps are on your left at all time while walking on Tiu-Tang-Long Path. Half way through, there are stairs headed towards the other side of the mountain, once over you’ll reach Fung Hang in no time.
There’s a public toilet at the entrance of the village next to a cafe. The stalls along Fung Hang Pier selling local made snacks such as 茶粿 (cha gwo) which is stuffed tea cake made with sticky rice flour, 砵仔糕 (put chai go) which is red bean pudding, pumpkin cake etc. Do give it a try ! I regretted not buying more as we have lunch plans at Kuk Po.
Let’s talk about this restaurant at Kuk Po. It operates on weekends only. Booking and pre-order are highly recommended. It’s Hakka cuisine. We ordered
❤️墨魚片 Squids
豉油王吊筒 Cuttlefish in soy sauce
走地雞 Steam Chicken
❤️豬肉砵 Pork Belly Pot
❤️客家醋鴨 Roast Duck in Hakka Style
❤️黑腳𩶘 Blackhead Seabrem
芥蘭 Kai Lan Veg
揚州炒飯 Fried Rice
魚肚湯 Fish Broth
❤️肉絲炒麵 Fried Noodles with shredded pork
After lunch, just take the same route back to where it begins.
Scenic: ❤️ ❤️ ❤️
Difficulties: ⭐️ ⭐️

Aberdeen Reservoir
School, playgrounds and many places ordered to be closed, again. Besides the daily zoom classes, we are looking forward for outdoor activities for the benefits of kids.
Hence, we went Aberdeen for a short walk again, a morning workout. It’s about 3km and took approx 2 hours (including picnic time).
To avoid crowd, we arrived and begin walking since 10am on a Sunday morning.
Difficulties : ⭐️ (hardest be the only slopes going up to the entrance of Aberdeen Country Park)
Scenic : ❤️❤️ (the dam with koi fishes and the view are quite nice)
Carpark : Metered carpark along Yue Kwong Road or the plaza’s
Toilet : Not long after the Aberdeen Kids Walk, which is right next to the entrance, the only public toilets at Park Visitor Centre

Parent-Child Dragon Boat
Over 2021’s Christmas, I was introduced to Hywind 海泓 who offered dragon boat trainings not only for adults; they’d held holiday half day camp for people like us to experience it with our children. And if children age 10 and above are interested, I know they’re planning for juvenile training.
We were gathered at 沙田體育會水上活動中心 located right next to the HKCDBA Training Centre at On King Street. Put on life jackets and got our paddles. Trainer led everyone to warm ups and stretching before arranging positions in boat. Kids sat in front of their parents.
Dragon boat rowing is different compared to kayaking. It’s single paddle, each responsible a side. Different posture and use of muscle strength in rowing. Trainers are clear with instruction and taught each and every one of us, including kids. My kids enjoyed rowing, and doing it the right way because they’re well taught.
It’s a memorable experience for us. I was worried it’ll be too tired for kids, as us parents are first timer too, but we’re all good, having fun and pumped up after the little competition between boats. I didn’t think it’s such an enthusiastic activity, it’s full of adrenaline and team spirits especially when you know you’re almost ahead. It definitely requires tons of effort in working together, seems to be one of the most pumped up activity I’ve ever done.

Dinosaur Park
That’s what my kids have been calling Ping Shek Playground (坪石遊樂場) . Located on a top of a hill in Choi Hung, this dinosaur theme playground seems to excite kids, taking them into a world of imagination and adventurous (well, at least that’s how my kids played) .
The playground is filled with caves showing archaic wall paintings, dinosaurs bones and fossils, and a castle play. There are swings at the back, slides, bars for climbing and the special one is a holding drops (I’m not sure what is that called officially, it’s like a fireman pole but all you have to do is hold the handle and step on the plate, then let your body weight take you down) .
My kids met some other kids, and they began playing catch, then move on to role playing pirates going on adventure, climbing up and down, using the castle as their base, the cave as dungeon to keep prisoners, and sometimes with serious discussion into where to run and hide.
Mom think: ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️
Kids think: ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ ❤️
Shade: Not really, unless hiding in the cave
Enclosed: No. It’s quite spacious and different exit , so do keep an eye on kids
Toilet: Yes, it’s under LCSD, so it’s public toilet but it’s reasonably clean.
Refreshment: Vending machines near the toilet
How to get there:
- 10 mins walk uphill from Choi Hung MTR station exit A1
- Minibus 82 stops at Choi Hing Court (彩興苑)
- Parking on site right next to tennis court

Playright PlayScope
A long overdue playhouse. Should’ve visit when kids are under 5.
Playright values children’s right to playc focus on putting theories into practice, child-centred and seek societal commitment to build and upgrade more playful facilities for children to play without worrying.
PlayScope opened in 2009, a play centre wholly designed and operated by Playright. All the items are child-centred, so my kids were still able to have fun and enjoy every bits of it. However, I do think it’ll benefit younger children.
There are different sections, the climbers; messy room where children allowed to draw everywhere in the room; buildings area with blocks; lots of role playing such as construction, household, medical, car racing; workshop area with scraps and cardboards for them to work on etc.
Operation:
- 10:00~13:00 and 14:30~17:30
- Tues to Fri $100 / child accompanied by an adult
- Weekend and public holiday $140 /child accompanied by an adult
- $40 for additional adults

Tsz Wan Shan Playground 慈雲山中心歷奇遊樂場
While everyone is talking about the NEW and quite happening shopping mall playground at MOKO, I took kids to one at Tsz Wan Shan Shopping Centre.
It’s another free playground at the shopping mall but this one with quite a big area of water splashing equipments, huge climbing nets and rope climber. There’s a 2-storey slide for user age 7 or 120cm and above. K is at the borderline and was thinking to give it a go, but then she walk away after hearing the other big kid saying it’s steep and too fast 😂
Kids spent most of the time under the shower, jumping in the puddles, then running around with other kids playing catch. We were there for a session, they had fun, but I don’t think it’s worth a second visit.
Tips:
✅ bring extra clothes because kids will definitely get wet
✅ wear socks in case you need a grip
✅ shoes off at all area with rubber flooring
✅ there’s locker if you need to store personal items
✅ get tickets to entry at the podium next to escalator opposite of the jewellery shop
Shade: We went for the 2.30pm session on a sunny day, but shaded by the building nearby.
Enclosed: Yes
Toilet: Shopping mall
Refreshment: bubble tea shop and cafe de coral just next to the playground
✅ 4 sessions per day
