🇨🇭Day 1: SIN - ZRH
I’ve always dreamt of going to Switzerland and I finally did it!
Mustered up enough courage and travel funds to book a long-haul 13 hours direct flight to Zurich with Singapore Airlines, and the only regret I takeaway from this is… THIS TRIP WAS WAY TOO SHORT, and also I learnt that I would very much prefer a layover for long-haul flights. 📝
I chose to stay in Hotel St. Gotthard throughout my time in Switzerland and took day trips out to other places because there’s lots of shopping near the hotel, fast food, restaurants, supermarket… everything is just a few steps away!
Most importantly, the hotel is located just a mere 5mins walk away to Zurich HB (train station) which is extremely convenient since my itinerary consist of taking lots of day trips out!
I was early for check-in so I dropped my luggage off at reception and started my day 1 in Switzerland!
📍Hotel: Hotel St. Gotthard
Bahnhofstrasse 87, 8001 Zürich, Switzerland
S$1800 for 7 nights
There were lots of luxury fashion and jewellery brands around to do some window shopping, nice quaint little cafes but they were closed for mid afternoon break.
Day walking around and finally saw an open cafe, which was crowded but didn’t have much of a choice! Had some pastries and coffee to recharge after the long flight, which cost about 20CHF. 💸
📍Cafe: Boréal Coffee Shop Talacker (ZU)
Talacker 41, 8001 Zürich, Switzerland
Taking day 1 light and easy to familiarise myself around the hotel!

Zurich is a historical old town surrounded by the magnificent Alps and beautiful Lake Zurich.
Zurich is also home to world class world class museums, fantastic shopping centres and bustling nightlife with a lots of bars.

THERE'S NO PLACE IN THE WORLD LIKE SWITZERLAND
Snow Capped mountains, gorgeous lakes amidst impressive medieval buildings, castles, and delectable cheese and chocolate… it’s tough not to like Switzerland.
Whether it’s trekking in Seealpsee, skiing in Zermatt, ride a gondola or cable car in the village of Stans, go paragliding above the Jungfrau and fall in love with the stunning views of the mountains and lakes from high above or walking through the old town in Geneva….Switzerland has it all for outdoor enthusiasts!

Best viewpoint for plane spotting in Zurich 🇨🇭
Whether you are an aviation enthusiast or not, it is a wonderful experience watching the take-offs and landings of aircrafts up close. There are two observation decks in Zurich Airport. Observation Deck B, located in the public area of Zurich Airport, is open to public at a small entrance fee. Observation Deck E, located on top of Dock E in the passenger zone, is open for passengers with a boarding pass. Public visitors can also take a shuttle bus to observation deck E from deck A.
We had a chance to relax in the fresh air on Observation Deck E before boarding our flight in Zurich airport. The deck offers a spectacular view of the airport activities as it is situated at the centre of the three runways. Visitors also have an opportunity to spot A380 up close as the world’s largest aircraft docks very close to the observation deck several times a day.

A Swiss Marvel!
Location: Zurich, northern Switzerland.
Getting there: The international airport flies to most major European cities. You can also get the train from Milan, Vienna or Stuttgart.
Switzerland is a wonderful choise for a holiday and Zurich is my favourite city there. There are excellent views of the alps from the city bridges, you can see the Swiss cathedral spires dominating the skyline. There are really nice tiny restaurants by the river you can enjoy.
Tip: Take the tram fifteen minutes away from the center to stay in a hotel there. It's a LOT cheaper than staying in the expensive centre.

Twilight view from the top of Zurich
The top of Zurich can be easily reached by taking train S10 from Zurich HB to the final stop Uetliberg in half an hour. At 2,850 feet above sea level, Uetliberg offers an impressive panoramic view of the city.
After a short walk from the train station, you will reach the highest point of Uetliberg, where the Uto Kulm restaurant is located. It is a perfect dining place for you and your loved ones whole absorbing the breathtaking panorama. If you want an even better view, you can climb the Uetliberg Lookout Tower next to the restaurant for CHF 2. However the view from the bottom of the tower is already good enough! Uetliberg is also the starting point of a popular hiking trail. This 6-km trail from Uetliberg to Felsenegg takes you on a fascinating tour through a model of the solar system.

Clean and quiet stay in Zurich suburb
#mytripvlog
We stayed in Sorell Hotel Sonnental on our last day in Switzerland. The hotel is located in Dübendorf, a suburb of Zurich. From Zurich HB you need to take a 10-min train ride to Stettbach, and from there either a bus or tram to the hotel.
The hotel looks rather new. We were given a room at the top floor (4th floor). There were no windows but two sunroofs in the room. The room was quite spacious and clean. Strangely there was a door to the hotel storeroom inside our toilet. There's no air-conditioning in the room too, so it could be quite hot during summer. The hotel restaurant serves good breakfast.

Comfortable rest near Zurich Airport
#mytripvlog
Address -
Flughofstrasse 45, 8152 Opfikon, Switzerland
Ambiance/Facilities -
The room can accommodate up to 3 adults. There is a double decker with a queen bed below and single bed above. However the room is quite small so it may be a little cramped for 3 adults. Shower and toilet are separated.
Highlights -
We booked the hotel as we had an overnight stopover in Zurich. It was only 2 tram stops and few minutes away from Zurich airport. Glattbrugg, Unterriet tram stop is just right outside the hotel. Breakfast spread is quite standard across all the hotels we stayed in Europe.

The old town of Zurich, Switzerland
Zurich is the largest city in Switzerland and for a outdoor enthusiasts who like nature Zurich won't be my 1st choice of travel. But if you are someone who want to understand about the old times and want to enjoy the best traditional switzerlander food, then yes Zurich is the first place that you should explore since most major international carrier also fly via Zurich right?
Zurich is separated by the old town and new town and you will know the difference with the cobblestone and the houses along the streets and by the water have the medieval architecture.
Also do remember to visit the love lock bridge at muhlesteg which stretches across the Seine River where you will see many padlocks hang on the bridge railings to symbolise like locking if love for couples.
Also all around Zurich, you will find many restaurants here serving traditional food like rosti, cheese fondues and amazing desserts but just a warning, eating out in Switzerland isn't gonna be cheap!

The City Of Dachsen, Switzerland
Dachsen is a city located up north of Zurich, about an hour less drive or so. There are several things to do here especially for outdoor enthusiasts, where there are hiking trials, old medieval harblingen Castle and waterfalls.
One attraction where you must absolutely go is the rhine falls which is just a short 5mins drive or its even walkable from the city centre itself. And although this waterfall maybe the shortest waterfall compared to the other ones in Switzerland but its said to be the biggest waterfall by volume of water it spouts out.
For hikers, there is a hiking trial that starts at the city of schaffhausen which the path follows the river trial all the way to the rhine falls, a relative easy hike.
Also, if you are saying overnight in Dachsen or Zurich, do make sure you take a photo of the city lights in the night as its a while different view entirely.

Vintage Flea Market at the Centre of Zurich
Chanced upon this gem at the centre of Zurich on a
Saturday afternoon! Ranging from vintage to secondhand
clothings, jewellery, branded bags & wallets, vintage
vinyls & figurines, as well as other high-quality products,
this place is great for people of all ages!
Always remember to block out some time in your itinerary
to go for this experience as the flea market takes about
an hour to cover and do remember to bring your own
bags!! 🛍
The locals were also really friendly so you can
also have a chat with them to learn more about their
culture and where those stuff come from.
Would totally go again if there's a chance! 🤩

Grossmünster
This is an iconic twin-towered Romanesque cathedral, where 1500s religious reformer Huldrych Zwingli preached. Huldrych Zwingli is known for leading the Swiss reformed movement in Switzerland. The cathedral is very imposing and can be seen from all sides of the river Limmat. It’s also very close to the old city centre.
Niederdorfstrasse
Niederdorfstrasse is the main street that runs through Zurich’s Niederdorf district. It lies on the east bank of the Limmat. It leads into the old city centre squares starting from the statue of the Swiss Soldier. It’s a good opportunity to buy souvenirs or that all important fridge magnet!

Benches and heritage architecture around a pedestrian square by Lake Zurich, hosting seasonal markets. It offers a good place for photos as from there you can even see the Zurich Opera House which opened in 1891, for classic and contemporary opera & ballet. On a sunny day the square burst with white so, sun glasses will be very much welcomed.
Theaterstrasse
Similar to the London West End or New York Broadway, Zurich has its Theaterstrasse. This is where you will be able to find cinemas and theatres for your weekend night out like a local. If not too much out of your way, worth checking out some of the local plays.

The "Rote Fabrik" (Red Factory in English) is an alternative cultural center just next to Lake Zurich in Switzerland's biggest city.
The cultural center offers concerts, art interventions, movie screenings, theater performances on social and cultural themes and other art Workshops like streetart. 🎥🎨🎭
They also have coffee and a small restaurant with snacks and food options. During the day are usually small exhibitions and workshops and in the evening is the cultural program like cinema and theater.

Beautiful Zurich
#eurotrip to #zurich
Zurich, pronounced [ˈtsyːrɪç], is the capital city of the Zurich Canton. It’s often believed it also serves as a second capital due to its role in the past hosting the Confederal Diet in two-year rotations however, believe it or not Switzerland doesn’t have an official capital. Yep, you read that right.
Zurich has been permanently settled for the last 2000 years since Roman days. Nowadays, less than 450 000 souls call it home.
The official language of Zurich is German, but the main spoken language is Zurich German, the local variant of the Alemannic Swiss German dialect.
In speaking with some German acquaintances they’ve mentioned Swiss German in general is very hard to understand as the Swiss do have a specific accent and use different words depending on the context.
You could probably say the same for Scottish English vs. English.
Although Switzerland is part of Schengen, they have not joined the E.U. hence they don’t use Euros. Hence, within Switzerland, you will also need Swiss francs.
Checkinaway (@checkinawayblog) The Dolder Grand, Zurich Switzerland
#artshunting @ The Dolder Grand
Address : Kurhausstrasse 65, 8032 Zürich, Switzerland
The Dolder Grand is a super luxury 5-star castle like hotel resort on Adlisberg Hill, in the Swiss city of Zürich, commanding a majestic view over the city, lake and mountain. Built in 1899, the 175 room resort spreads out over a sprawling 40000 square metres area, has two restaurants, spacious event space, an impressively huge art collection and a 4000 square metre spa.
Later renovations and new wing additions by renowned London architects Foster and Partners have since transformed the Dolder Grand into the ultimate in luxury hotels. There are travellers and guests who travel all the way to the fairy-tale Dolder Grand just to scale and marvel at the castle resort's historic architecture, art pieces, paintings, surrounding calming nature, in addition to fine dining.
Walk through the main lobby and halls and marvel at the fine decor, exquisite statues, crystal chandeliers, fine and contemporary art pieces all over the hotel walls and even ceilings. Check out the gold framed main staircases as well as the multi-colour painted glass panels which gives an overall cheery rainbow hue from the sun outside !
While you are there, you can perhaps dine in at The Restaurant, which boasts of two Michelin stars and 19 GaultMillau points. Besides the heavenly cuisine, the decor inside is simply contemporary yet zeitgeist. The golden railings adds further grandeur to the entire atmosphere.
Lastly, take in the surrounding sights and the hotel front during the day and night, you will be sure to be blown away by the beautiful contrast.
How to Get There :
- Short journey by car from the city center
- 20 minutes by car from Zurich Airport
- Free hotel shuttle bus service during the day
- Public transport via trams numbered 3, 8 or 15 to Römerhof and then take the railway to Dolderbahn Bergstation. The final station is right next to the Hotel

SWISS Lounge @ Zurich Airport 🍸🍷🍺🍹🍰
We flew business class with Swiss Air from Zurich to Lisbon. There are two Swiss lounges for business class passengers in Zurich Airport, one in terminal A, the other in terminal E. There are also other more luxurious lounges for first class passengers. The business class lounge that we went to served all-day buffet with a wide variety of appetizers, salads, desserts, snacks, coffees, juices and alcohols. The lounge can get quite crowded at times. Overall it was a pleasant experience.
In 2023 I wish to travel to Korea as my Korea trip was cancelled 2 years ago due to the pandemic. So it's time to fly again!

Zurich Train Station This is Switzerland’s largest and busiest train hub that got high scores in the 2020 European Railway Index, ranking second after London’s St. Pancras station. It serves as the main portal for commuters from around the canton to come into the city for work. It offers services to all destinations in Switzerland as well as local connections. The architecture of the façade is formidable, worthy of a photo to say the least!
Everything from picturesque lake scenery to beautiful Baroque and Romanesque architecture. It’s a perfect destination for solo/family travellers wishing to explore this superb Swiss gem.

Quaibrücke Bridge
I would say a definite stop should be the Quaibrücke bridge. Dating from the late 1800s, this bridge over the Limmat has lanes for cars, pedestrians & trams. Take a moment to look on both sides of the bridge and observe the piece and tranquillity this city exerts.
Quaianlagen Park
From Quaibrücke bridge head over in the narrow park of Quaianlagen. It offers ample places to sit and observe street performers with a spectacular background of the city itself mirrored by the lake Zurich. I found it quite relaxing to sit down on a bench and just watch pedestrians walk by whilst I enjoyed some swiss chocolate snacks.

The city local government occupies this stately riverfront building dating from the late 17th century. The building is fairly unique in architecture with two golden lions guarding the main entrance and ornate grilled first floor windows.
Weinstube zur Haue
Although you might not be ready for a lunch break just yet, I’d still recommend you visit this house as it features an almost Bavarian style façade with similar looking inner designs. I found the flags and overall aspect very typical and interesting.

Landesmuseum (Swiss National Museum)
To get to know a country, I’d say it’s always best to start with the national museum. They offer a good impression of the heritage and history behind its people. And the Landesmuseum doesn’t let down. It offers a good perspective of Switzerland as a whole, from history to culture the expositions tell the stories of the Swiss. You might think Switzerland was well off since forever, but that’d be a wrong assumption. The Swiss were the “Poor man of Europe” for many years in the past. It wasn’t till WWII that the Swiss emerged as a prosperous nation.
