Spartan Kids Race at
It was supposed to be K’s 5yo birthday present. It was supposed to be first ever Spartan kids race in Central. It was supposed to happened in 2020, 26th of September. Next, got postponed due to the pandemic. We were waiting for it to happen. Then, early May, an email notifying the race to be held at Ocean Park by end of May. We’re all excited about this challenging race. And I signed up for D to go together.
On the race day, we arrived 1.5hours earlier, our wave time was 8.15am for registration. We are disappointed that the runner packs and items pre-ordered are not available due to delay in shipments. To make it worst, there won’t be any finisher medals too! The medals together with runner packs and pre-ordered items to be delivered within a month after the race.
The arrangements were confusing and messy. Our race started before the registered wave time. There’s no photographers and obstacles stops often packed with racers doubtfully queuing for their turns.
K is really a runner, and definitely takes up each and every challenge seriously. I ran alongside her and she doesn’t want to stop. Not even for her brother and friends. Later, she explained she’ll get tired if she has to stop and wait. I guess she had a point. And we do think this course is more of a individual thing than a team challenge.
D tried his best, I guess. He’s probably one of the youngest (4years 2 months), given the minimum age to entry is 4yo. He ran alongside with his good friend, Lok and completed all obstacles. I could see he’s dozing off at the finishing line.
Kids are confused and disappointed there isn’t any medals after completing the course; luckily, they’re being understanding that adults make mistakes and accidents happens that’s causing the delay in shipments.
It’s our first Spartan Race and this experience definitely disappoint many of us.
