In order to relax, I chose the Villa Varu Yuet Chun Resort on Phuket Island, Thailand as my holiday destination. Here, I had an unforgettable time that left a deep impression on me about this resort. Villa Varu Yuet Chun Resort is located in the south of Phuket Island, about 20 minutes drive from Phuket International Airport. Departing from the airport, admiring the beautiful coastline along the way, I soon arrived at the resort. As soon as I entered the resort, I was attracted by the scene in front of me. The trees are shaded, the flowers are blooming, as if I am in a tropical garden. The architectural style of the resort is unique, blending Thai traditional architectural elements and modern design techniques, giving people a strong exotic atmosphere. The check-in procedure is very quick, the front desk staff are enthusiastic and thoughtful, and they also took the initiative to introduce me to the facilities and services of the resort. I stayed in a deluxe sea view room, the room is spacious and bright, the decoration is luxurious and elegant. There is a comfortable lounge chair on the balcony, where you can enjoy the beautiful sea view. The room is fully equipped, the bedding is comfortable and soft, allowing me to get a good rest after a tiring journey. There are several restaurants and bars in the resort, offering a variety of food and drinks. Among them, I recommend the Thai restaurant, where the dishes are authentic and delicious. We embarked on an impromptu journey to the Maldives, with our passports arriving just a day before departure. We chose Velavaru Island, also known as Turtle Island, and booked a three-night stay in an overwater villa. The weather was perfect, and we were fortunate to avoid any rain. Our days were spent doing nothing, thinking of nothing, simply enjoying the luxury of wasting time. We also arranged a beachside candlelight dinner with friends. Choosing an island can be quite a headache, so it's advisable to focus on the major aspects. For instance, I wanted a water villa with a pool and a net bed, preferably all-inclusive, and accessible by seaplane (as speedboat and domestic flight transfers can be exhausting, and seaplanes offer scenic views despite being noisy and hot). The two-story water villa caught my eye immediately. Velavaru Island offers two types of all-inclusive packages: one for dining and drinking, which includes three meals, beverages, and a minibar, and another for activities, which includes breakfast and dinner plus a $75 daily credit per person for additional expenses. Arrival: Regardless of your arrival time in Malé, it's recommended to spend the first night there. If there are any issues with your international flight, you won't waste a night on the island, which could affect your mood. Accommodation in Malé is quite basic, similar to a guesthouse, costing around $800 per night. The next day, the earliest seaplane transfer to the island is usually arranged. We checked out at 6 AM, had breakfast at the seaplane lounge around 7 AM, and flew at about 9 AM to maximize our time on the island. Note: Seaplanes allow only 50KG of luggage for two people. We exceeded this and paid over $30 in luggage fees. Dining: Guests in beach villas can choose a three-course meal at the main buffet restaurant and Pool Bar, while water villa guests can dine at Azzurol Restaurant. Funa Restaurant requires an additional fee, as does in-room dining. The buffet varies slightly each day, offering a decent variety, including some Chinese flavors. On the first night, we selected ingredients for a stir-fry. Azzurol Restaurant offers more premium ingredients, with fresh seafood in a three-course meal. Overall, the food at all three venues was quite good. Water Activities: You can kayak or paddleboard for an hour daily. Be cautious, as the sea can be rough, and you might need to pay $55 per person for rescue if you can't return. Snorkeling gear is provided for free after passing a swimming test. Paid activities include banana boats and jet skis. The hotel offers complimentary sunset cruises or night fishing. Tipping: The island doesn't have personal butlers. Initially, a Chinese staff member showed us to our room, and I tipped $20, which felt unnecessary. It's not recommended to seek out Chinese staff as they are often busy with many guests. She told us night fishing was unavailable until our departure day. The next day, I found an English-speaking staff member who promised to arrange a second boat and asked us to wait for confirmation, so I tipped $10. On the third day, we were confirmed for fishing and I tipped another $10. It's unclear if the tips helped, but we received a sunset room type closer to the coral cliffs. Our final bill included $600 in credits, with $400 spent on a spa (90 minutes for $200 per person, very nice) and $200 on a sunset cruise ($125 per person), with an additional $50 not charged. Diving wasn't covered by the credit, costing $400. Tips included $10 for the dive, $5 for the boat crew, $2-5 for housekeeping, and $5 per person for luggage handling and breakfast setup. Velaa offers four restaurants: one overwater and three on the beach. With our upgraded all-inclusive package, we had access to all four at no extra cost. The overwater restaurant, Azzurro, serves a buffet breakfast, but the local flies can be a nuisance. Lunch and dinner are à la carte with a three-course menu, including a children's menu. For families, it's recommended to order from the adult menu, except for the chicken fingers on the kids' menu. The restaurant offers a convenient QR code menu with a Chinese translation. Additionally, there's a complimentary room service option available once a day, which we utilized to enjoy a meal on our water villa's upper deck. The beachside Kaani restaurant is a buffet-style venue serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner, with themed nights offering a few unique dishes. We only attended the Monday BBQ night due to the fly issue. Breakfast is exclusively served at the buffet. Kuredi Bar, located by the main island pool, offers a three-course menu for lunch and dinner, featuring Western cuisine with generous portions. The chicken wings are a highlight, and the steak surpasses that of Azzurro. The bar hosts themed activities every evening at 8:30 PM. Funa, the Thai restaurant on the main island, was previously a paid option but is now included in the all-inclusive package, though reservations are required. It's closed on Mondays and Fridays, so book early. The restaurant, situated by the main island dock, offers a great atmosphere and delicious food. Note that lobster dishes are an additional charge. All four restaurants share the same beverage menu. We mostly enjoyed juices, coffee, and non-alcoholic cocktails. The mango and peach juices are recommended, and the non-alcoholic mojito became a favorite. Overall, the dining experience was better than expected, with Funa being the standout, followed by Kuredi, Azzurro, and Kaani. This means a couple can sample six dishes in total for lunch or dinner. If you find a particular main course or dessert exceptionally delicious and want more, you'll need to pay extra. The menu at the water villa restaurant doesn't change frequently, possibly updating every few months. Highly recommended is the fried seafood appetizer, reminiscent of tempura, which was so delicious it was ordered twice. The seafood skewers are also noteworthy for their tenderness and freshness. For those with a heavier palate, pasta or meat rolls are filling options. Desserts like ice cream and fruit are average, but the coconut and orange ice slushes are worth trying for their smooth texture. Breakfast at the water villa is similar to the beach villa with a buffet style, and you can order freshly made omelets. However, the drinks at the water villa bar don't match the quality of those at the beach villa bar, often served in the same glass without much care. If you enjoy drinks, you might consider taking a boat to the beach villa bar, which runs every hour, or settle for the water villa bar if convenience is a priority. First, let's talk about some tips. Avoid staying in Water Villa 316 as it lacks privacy; everyone can see the pool, and the air conditioning is extremely noisy! 1. All-Inclusive or Activities Package: If you're not a heavy drinker, choose the activities package. The all-inclusive option only adds lunch and some alcohol, while the activities package includes a mini bar with beer, white wine, and vodka, which is replenished daily. The island has a buffet restaurant called Kaani with average food but different themes daily, ensuring you won't go hungry. There are also a bar restaurant and a water villa restaurant with more refined dishes. Breakfast is served until 10:30, so you can eat a bit more and skip lunch. 2. Should you stay in a transit hotel in Malé? If you arrive in Malé after 3 PM and have a long seaplane transfer, it's advisable to stay overnight, as island hotels are expensive and not worth it for a late-night arrival. We stayed at Amber Beach Hotel, where they pick you up at the airport with a sign. If you can't find them, use the help desk's free phone to call the hotel. The breakfast is standard, and the island hotel coordinates the transfer and seaplane schedule with the transit hotel. The front desk will inform you of the next day's arrangements. 3. Which two out of three free activities should you choose? Night fishing is highly recommended! We went on September 29th and saw a stunning sunset and full moon, catching five fish. Some people didn't catch any, though. After fishing, you can have your catch prepared for free at Kaani restaurant with options like sashimi, grilled, or fried. The sunset cruise focuses on dolphin watching, which depends on luck. We were thrilled to see dolphins leaping out of the water. We didn't choose the full moon cruise, so we're not sure about it. 4. How to use the $1,000 credit: Prices for activities change quickly, and the versions from the agent, the website, and on-site are all different, each more expensive than the last. The spa is decent for relaxing your legs and shoulders after a long flight, similar to those at Beijing's JW Marriott or Ritz-Carlton, but not extraordinary. Jet skiing is a must-try; it's fun to drive yourself, and we saw many dolphins, more than on the sunset cruise. Morning fishing is also enjoyable, and we caught two more fish, providing lunch for the day. Paid snorkeling doesn't require a test, and a coach accompanies you, but the marine life is similar to what you'd see elsewhere. 5. Other paid activities: Whale shark snorkeling is highly recommended! It takes a whole morning, including lunch, with a speedboat trip to the northern atoll. The snorkeling water quality is excellent, and swimming with sharks is a unique experience. On the way back, there's a beautiful uninhabited island. Scuba diving requires a PADI certification, or you'll need to pay for lessons. There are also paid dining options like water dinners and beach barbecues, averaging $300 per person. 6. Drones: The open space in front of the sand villa lobby is officially allowed for drone use. Water villas are more flexible; as long as no one complains, it's fine.

Our package included a 2-night stay in a beach villa and a 2-night stay in an overwater villa with a Premium All-Inclusive plan. Although the room facilities were somewhat outdated and there was no personal butler service, the island's scenery was stunning and offered great value for money. The overwater villas, known as Water Pavilions, are separate from the main island, with a boat shuttle service operating daily according to a schedule posted at the dock. The day before moving to the overwater villa, the hotel slips an envelope under your door with the next day's transfer time and instructions. Simply leave your luggage at the villa door and take your personal items to the dock to board the boat. The departure process is similar. Every morning at 11:00 AM, there is a complimentary snorkeling trip around the water villa area. Guests need to pick up fins, masks, and snorkels from the main island's dive center and pass a simple test at the dock.
