The old man first explained the culture of ginseng digging—in the days before GPS, ginseng diggers relied entirely on the tree canopy for navigation. My daughter squatted on the ground, using a bamboo stick to dig, and after more than forty minutes, she finally unearthed a ginseng root, holding it up and running around shouting, "I found one!" The science museum was filled with various ginseng specimens. Pointing to the rhizome heads and counting the ginseng bowls, she said, "This one is seven years old."
