Pay homage to the ancient Buddha at the Buddhist temple of Wat Pa Yang Noi
#ChiangraiTravel
🛕Ancient Buddha Image at Wat Pa Yang Noi Temple was originally an ancient stupa discovered by Mr. Mom Na Chaiyaphum, a villager of Pa Yang Mon, the owner of the rice field. While digging a termite mound, he found bricks and then the knee of an ancient Buddha image buried in the ground on July 7, 1975.
🛖Later, the villagers helped dig up the Buddha image and notified the Fine Arts Department. After that, a wooden pavilion was built to cover the ancient Buddha image.
🙏This ancient Buddha image is a Buddha image in the Mara-Vijaya attitude, with a lap width of 49 inches and a height of 54 inches. It is a Buddha image in the Pallava art (India) style from the Chiang Saen period.
🙏In 1987, a group of thieves stole and cut off the head to find valuables inside the Buddha image, causing the entire head of the Buddha image to be damaged. The villagers therefore built a new head.
🛖Later, the pavilion where the Buddha image was enshrined was damaged, so the pavilion was demolished and rebuilt. The Buddha image was stuck in the ground and was damaged and decayed, so it was restored and repaired. Wrap the wire around the Buddha image and then mold the cement over the original image. Then lift the Buddha image and enshrine it in the temple.
⛔ Such actions are against the law regarding ancient sites. The Fine Arts Department has therefore ordered the halt of construction of all temples.
⛔ Until now, if the villagers want to continue building the temple, the Buddhist site must be removed because this Buddha image has been registered by the Fine Arts Department.
🙏 This ancient Buddha image is called Phra Sri Sakkamuni Samon Kodom.
💥 There is a tradition of bathing the Buddha image on the 8th day of the waxing moon of the 8th northern month (6th month) of every year.
