About Majia Valley
Known as the lesser-known Jiuzhaigou, this pristine canyon is still largely undeveloped. Snow-capped mountains, primeval forests, alpine meadows, and several emerald alpine lakes are connected in a line. The trekking difficulty is beginner-friendly and suitable for newcomers. In autumn, colorful forests cover the hills and lakes reflect snowy peaks, creating stunning views. In summer, alpine meadows bloom with wildflowers and greenery spreads everywhere. There are no shops inside the scenic area, preserving a strong wilderness atmosphere.
Transportation guide
✅ Self-driving (highly recommended)
Chengdu → Panda Avenue → Siguniang Mountain → Dawei Town → Majia Valley. About 340 km total, 4.5–5 hours driving. Regular family cars are suitable. The latter part of the route has narrow mountain roads, so slow down when passing other vehicles.
✅ Public transport
Take a bus from Chengdu Chadianzi Bus Station to Xiaojin County, then charter a car to the scenic area. Public transport takes longer, so traveling with others by car is recommended.
Trekking routes (two options)
🔹 Leisurely easy route (best for beginners, 4–5 hours round trip, about 7 km total)
Sightseeing bus end point [Toudaoping] → stream boardwalk → Yiangqu Lake (No. 1 lake) → Qumei Lake, then return the same way. Mostly flat wooden boardwalks, altitude 3,700–3,900 m.
🔹 In-depth long route (for those with good stamina)
Continue upward to Moon Lake and the foot of the snow mountain. Over 7 hours round trip. Early entry into the valley is recommended.
Essential gear & tips
1. Large temperature differences on the plateau! Quick-dry clothing + windbreaker, bring a hat, sunglasses, and high SPF sunscreen;
2. No convenience stores inside the scenic area. Bring your own snacks, drinking water, and some chocolate;
3. High altitude, walk slowly, avoid intense running to prevent altitude sickness;
4. Best seasons:
✅ Mid-October to early November: peak colorful forests, prime photography season
✅ June to August: alpine wildflowers bloom, ideal for summer escape
❌ Heavy snow in winter, suitable only for professional trekkers
Food and accommodation reference
