2025 Xuhui District Travel Guide: Must-see attractions, popular food, hotels, transportation routes (updated in March)

Located at 425 Yongjia Road in Xuhui District, the Emerald City Green Castle is like a dreamy place straight out of a fairy tale! Exit at Hengshan Road Station on Metro Line 1 and stroll along Yongjia Road. You'll pass elegant garden houses and plane tree-lined streets full of Shanghai's unique charm, eventually arriving at this 'internet-famous' building that resembles a matcha cake. This building, shrouded in green leaves, features curved staircases and arched windows that harmonize with the surrounding old architecture, making it a perfect spot for photos. Especially when the climbing ivy is in full bloom, the effect in the afternoon sunlight is even more enchanting. Come capture this romantic moment! Don't forget to visit the nearby Libo Garden to enjoy the charming green grass and flowers, along with adorable little angel sculptures that make you feel like you're in the romantic atmosphere of southern France!

This day's itinerary is all in Xuhui District, where you can visit the famous Xujiahui Park, Catholic Church, Academy, and Wukang Road, so I specially chose "Chartres Garden" to taste Italian cuisine🇮🇹 At the corner of the intersection of Huashan Road and Fuxing West Road in Shanghai, there is a whole row of "French Restaurant in Lilac Chateau Garden", "Baking Shop" and "Italian Restaurant" respectively, and this row of buildings also belongs to Shanghai's famous houses. One of the buildings in Lilac Garden, full of French style🌺 An old bungalow with beautiful aqua blue exterior walls and a row of outdoor dining areas outside, full of Parisian style. Pushing the door open and walking in, you pass by the gorgeous small hall. The dining area on the front is very spacious, with European-style black and white floor tiles, beautiful Italian crystal chandeliers, and mirrors with gold-rimmed frames on the walls. It has a very European feel. The atmosphere of the restaurant. The best seat in Chateau Garden is the window seat next to the garden, where you can browse the wide courtyard while dining. Unfortunately, it rained on the day we went, so we sat in the relatively spacious window area near the road and admired the rows of sycamore trees, which was also unique 💕 ☘️Appetizers 📍Chateau Salad🥗 Lettuce and fruit salad using many Mediterranean ingredients, including sesame leaves, fresh olives, peaches, apples, stone fruit slices... served with Italian oil and vinegar sauce, a very refreshing salad. 📍Warm toasted brie cheese 🧀 A whole piece of BRIE Cheese is warmly grilled, served with figs, fennel, slices of raw ham, and drizzled with honey. It is quite a special appetizer. 📍Charcoal grilled German sausage Served with roasted warm vegetables, homemade sauerkraut, and crispy French fries. However, the overall sausage did not taste crispy and was just average. 🌺Staple food 📍Margherita Pizza🍕 It's different from what I had in Taiwan. It has whole slices of large tomatoes, basil leaves, and rich double cheese. The pizza is thin crust and has a slightly crispy texture. It's quite recommended. 📍Pan-fried duck liver and black truffle risotto🧆 This dish is highly recommended 👍, the duck liver is well prepared, the skin is slightly charred and melts in your mouth, and the black truffle risotto is also very fragrant. 📍 Charcoal Grilled Filet with Chef’s Red Wine Sauce🥩 The filet mignon was medium rare and very delicious. There is grilled red onion and lettuce salad on the side👍 The service staff in this restaurant are of good quality, and there are no restrictions on dining times. You can enjoy your meal quietly in an old bungalow in the French Concession. When I lived in Shanghai for a short time, I loved the Xuhui French Concession the most. The plane trees are lush and green. The old houses, restaurants, bookstores, cafes and various small shops along the road are very charming. Anokhi is a fancy dining experience located on Wuxing Road in the fairly new restaurant area. On Fridays, they have 50% off sparkling wine bottles to enjoy as well. Their food is authentically Indian but with a unique twist, everything was incredibly tasty! Portions are the perfect size as they are filling and delicious but you get just the right amount. A short walk away, roughly 3 minutes, from South Shaanxi Exit 2 is a fun street of tiny shops and cafes. RAC is on this stretch and is a welcoming cafe to enjoy a friendly catch up over the weekend. Food and drinks here are different and tasty. Garden books is one of my favourite places to visit for relaxing or working. The two floors have an interesting range of books with some foreign and some Chinese. You’ll be able to find areas to sit down and read dotted around the store. Upstairs is a larger cafe area, however downstairs also has a small cafe. Newly arrived in Shanghai is the Bottega restaurant and bar. They have an amazing selection on the menu and currently finishing their soft opening period. It’s the first Bottega in Shanghai and it’s delicious! Drinks offers are available as well. Price per Person - 150-200/person Rating - 10/10 We were deciding between vietnamese or the so many food choices at Gateway Plaza at Xujiahui and as our foot was getting tired we decided to eat at Chin Chin. We had Beef in Yellow Curry 🍛 💯 (85 RMB), Morning Glory in Balachan sauce💯 (48 RMB) and Pad Thai 💯(48 RMB). Very classic dishes although I wanted to try more. We had their hand shaken iced tea in Lemon grass and Lime Flavor 💯 (38 RMB) and a Lemongrass and Lime in Soda drink💯(38 RMB). The food was so refreshing especially for the super hot weather. Among the many things that Shanghai provides us, the most important one is food. Shanghai is truly international in every sense with people from all over the world setting up restaurants and so, it never loses its authentic taste. This time it's the baker & spice brunch that we decided to embark on; and I'm quite not sure if it's American or some other European. Most of my dining in Baker & spice has happened only during so e meet ups among friends or even official meetups; why not ? It's perfectly elegant and looks great, so even some times rather to conduct the meeting within four walls, we take it to outdoors. A croissant, coffee and some bagels can easily fill up your stomach. As an old saying goes, when stomach is full, heart is also full 🌝. So be it personal or official, Baker & spice has never disappointed us in food. In early winter, the plane trees in Shanghai are like a painting. The lush crowns of the plane trees are green, yellow, orange, and brown, like paint pouring from a palette. Step on the yellow leaves and hear the crisp crunching sound, as if nature is whispering romantic poetry.

I met up with my best friend at Lai An Shanghai-style Chinese Teppanyaki 🍥 The decor is German courtyard style, and the century-old garden house 🏡 has a great atmosphere. The sun shines through the window, and the mottled light and shadow dance in the shop, and every corner is like a beautiful painting. · ☕Spanish Latte, Kyoto Latte: The two most popular coffees in the store. If you don't like sweets, tell the barista in advance to add less condensed milk and make it less sweet. · 🌳Outside the store: The coffee shop's outdoor garden also has several seating areas. 👍Recommended: Jianguo West Road is a street that spans Xuhui District and Huangpu District. It is 2,498 meters long and is one of the 64 roads in Shanghai that will never be widened. Although it is located in a busy city area, it is relatively quiet. 🌟Highlights: Jianguo West Road is full of Shanghai style. Along the road are clear water red brick garden houses and dense French sycamore trees, as well as Shikumen buildings and some interesting small shops.

Ningguo Zen Temple, located in Xuhui District, Shanghai, boasts a history of over 800 years. The temple covers an area of 7,800 square meters and offers a serene atmosphere. Adjacent to the temple is a natural art park. It is about a 20-minute taxi ride from Shanghai South Railway Station. The area also has many restaurants, making it convenient for visitors.
