Anniversary treat.
Called in here for lunch as an anniversary treat. Talking to the landlady about our love of history, she very kindly gave us a quick tour. Showing us where the priest holes were, the secret tunnel underneath to the church across the road (sadly now bricked up), & explaining how the upper floor had been used as a courtroom in past times. She is very knowledgeable & a proud custodian of over a thousand years of history. Lunch was excellent & served also by a very welcoming member of staff. Our 1st visit, I’m sure we will be back.

Absolutely fabulous
It was lovely to see a pub so well supported on a Friday evening. People of all ages were at almost every table. We were so pleased we’d booked! We were seated at a very nice table and chose to share the Chateaubriand which is very good value at £75 for the two of us. Unfortunately, the kitchen only had 2 fillet steaks which she promised to serve with the same garnishes as the Chateaubriand. I asked for mine to be ‘Black and blue’ and my friend opted for medium rare. When our steaks arrived, they looked amazing! They tasted even better than they looked and were both cooked to perfection. The grilled vine tomatoes and mushroom garnish were so tasty and the creamed spinach side was delicious. The quality of the 8oz fillet was second to none. So tender and full of flavour. It was the best main course I’ve had in a pub. Ever. We shared a sticky toffee pudding with ice cream which also lived up to expectations after the steaks. The staff were lovely and provided us with great service. Thank you🙏 Already looking forward to my next visit. Highly recommended.
