Huangjia Old Restaurant (Jin'an Road)

A few years ago, when I was on a business trip to Kaifeng, I often went to this old shop to eat three-fresh soup dumplings. The dumplings are shaped like chrysanthemums, the dough is chewy and smooth, and the soup is delicious. The decoration style of the old shop is antique, especially at night when the big red lanterns are hung high and lit up 🏮, it has a sense of history.

The taste is good, but nothing special. It is similar to ordinary soup dumplings, and I don't know what is different. The store is relatively clean, the waiters are warm and friendly, and the prices are reasonable.

After visiting the Qingming Riverside Park, my classmates took me to eat authentic soup dumplings. The portion was too big. I ordered too much and couldn't finish it. There was also fried jelly on the iron plate. I forgot to take a photo of the mashed sweet potato. I recommend the fried jelly. The pot-sticked tofu has the aroma of fish. The mashed sweet potato is too greasy. The baked carp noodles are sweet and sour. People in the south are not used to it.

The soup dumplings were really good. I ate seven or eight of them even though I don't like them. I think it tastes better with vinegar and a little bit of chili, and it's not greasy at all. I'm from the south and I really wanted to eat some rice, but unfortunately I didn't have any. I think the chicken from Huang's is also very delicious. My son almost ate one portion by himself.

Kaifeng, the ancient capital of eight dynasties, has a rich food culture of Henan cuisine. The taste is moderate, taking into account both southern and northern tastes. It evolved on the basis of palace cuisine and official cuisine, and the taste is very pleasing. The flow of people at Gulou Night Market is more than twice that of Xisi Night Market. I have limited stomach space, so I packed a soup dumpling from the time-honored Huangjia Old Store and went back to rest... I will continue tomorrow [Hey ha]

Huang's Old Store was recommended by a friend before I came to Kaifeng. She went to school in Kaifeng for four years and emphasized to me that I should eat soup dumplings at Huang's Old Store, not at the First Floor. The First Floor is just famous and tastes average. The hotel I stayed in was only 400-500 meters away from this store, very close, but I arrived late that day. When I checked in and arrived at the store door, the staff had just got off work, so I didn't get to eat. I went to a restaurant called "Lu Mian Xiang" next door. This braised noodles are really delicious. I will review it later! The next day, because I went to Qingming Shanghe Park to play, I ate at the First Floor of Sihou Street at noon. I was disappointed (you can go to the First Floor to see my review)! On the afternoon of the third day, I was preparing to go to Anyang. I rested in the hotel in the morning. At noon, my son and I ate soup dumplings at Huang's Old Store. Because the feeling of the First Floor was average the day before, I didn't have much hope (my son was going to eat noodles, but there was no room, so he came to Huang's). Still two baskets of soup dumplings (18 yuan per basket, 7 yuan cheaper than the first floor), a portion of garlic braised cold noodles (26 yuan), and a can of mung bean and lily porridge (48 yuan). The cold noodles were served first. The first bite was elastic and chewy, and the second was fragrant. The garlic fragrance and a little vinegar made it very delicious! The porridge was served second, and it was cooked just right, a little sweet (sugar was added), which was good for cooling off! The soup dumplings (made freshly wrapped and steamed) were served last. I didn't expect much, but the first bite was amazing. My son and I praised them in unison: "Thin skin, lots of soup, and delicious taste." Fortunately, we came here to eat before leaving, otherwise we would have disparaged Kaifeng's soup dumplings when we really went back. Now it has been vindicated, and it is worthy of being a famous food in Kaifeng! The porridge was not photographed in the picture, and the color was not good. I like this garlic braised noodles. It is covered with an egg pancake on the outside and noodles inside. It is delicious, and it tastes even better with a little vinegar!
