We went to Fuzhou for a few days this summer vacation. The most impressive thing was the food in Fuzhou. In the last two days, we left Fuzhou city and went to Pingtan Island for a tour. Before leaving, the inn owner recommended this nostalgia Fujian folk cuisine, saying that it was a more distinctive restaurant here, so we came to continue our Fuzhou food tour.
🍽【Food Guide】
📍Detailed address: Building 1, Building 6, Zone C, Phase 2, Xihang Seaside City
🚗Transportation Guide: We drove here by ourselves. There are parking spaces on the roadside, but the resources are very tight
🕙Business hours: 11:00-14:00 17:00-21:30
🍽Recommended dishes:
🐔Changting Pan-fried Mountain Chicken: This chicken should be free-range, with a firm and chewy texture. After marinating, the base flavor is very strong, and there is young ginger in it. It is really super fragrant and this chicken is especially good with rice, because it is very flavorful and not spicy. Children like this chicken very much.
Recommendation index: 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
🦪Oyster stew with seaweed: We often eat oysters in Haikou, but we never thought that they would taste so fresh with seaweed! Especially after adding some peppers, the taste is really very strong. The taste of oysters is beyond words, but I think the best is seaweed. It is a great accompaniment to rice. If you haven't eaten it, you must try it.
Recommendation index: 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
🐷Xianyou Jiuzhuan Tuchang: The name of the dish is the place name of Xianyou County. It should be a local method. The part of the large intestine is used. The selection of ingredients is very particular. The taste of the stew is particularly thorough, and the fishy smell is basically removed. The taste is relatively tough, but it may be a bit difficult for the elderly to chew.
Recommendation index: 🌟🌟🌟🌟
🐠Raw baked yellow croaker: This yellow croaker must be a very fresh live fish, with a fresh and tender taste. It is baked raw and fully flavored. There is rice wine to remove the fishy taste and a lot of garlic is added when baking, so the taste is very strong. In summary, it is the taste of braised + the taste of steamed!
Recommendation index: 🌟🌟🌟🌟
🖼Restaurant environment: We arrived at one o'clock in the afternoon, and there was just one table left for us. If we came at normal time, we would definitely have to wait for a seat. The decoration style is very traditional Chinese, which fits the name of Xiangshao very well. The serving speed is a little slow, but it is understandable, after all, the business is so good!
💰Per capita consumption: 4 people consumed 255 yuan, 64 yuan per person.
🍜Restaurant total score: 4.8/5 points

A 3-night, 4-day trip to Pingtan! It was incredibly relaxing with the kids. Two months overdue, here's our Pingtan travelogue! We went on a completely "lay-down" vacation. Even without a detailed itinerary, we still had a blast. Itinerary Overview We took the high-speed rail to Fuzhou and stayed there for one night. The next day, after dinner, we rented a car and drove to Pingtan, where we stayed for three nights. It rained in Fuzhou that day, so I didn't get to explore much, so I won't go into detail. Day 1: An unexpected surprise at the beach On the way to Pingtan, you'll pass Dalian Island, which is largely undeveloped and incredibly pristine. Use the navigation system to Yueju Village, and you'll see Windmill Sea along the way. The winding mountain road is a bit tricky to navigate. There's a mudflat at our destination, a truly free spot for beach catching. It's incredibly sparsely populated, and small crabs are everywhere, easily accessible. The children were thrilled. A frequent beachgoer mentioned that there's even shellfish in the deep waters, so he brought a large net. We stayed overnight near Longwangtou. The B&B was average, but the value was decent. For just over 100, I thought it was worth it. Day 2: Beach Fun + Relaxing at the B&B We went to Longwangtou Beach during the day and rented a tent. The elderly and children dug sand and watched the ocean. My husband and I took a speedboat ride, which was thrilling! The driver played a super loud DJ and took us around the ocean, creating waves. At some angles, I felt like I was practically tucked into the water. I wouldn't recommend it for the faint of heart. The jelly sea there was truly beautiful, though; it was crystal clear. For lunch, we had a famous clay pot porridge restaurant. It was so-so, I wouldn't recommend it. After lunch, we went straight back to the B&B to relax. We didn't like crowds, so we chose the Yaqin Bay Villa on the southern route. We stayed there for two nights and loved it. But a word of warning, don't choose this place if you're not driving. Transportation is inconvenient, and meals require a long journey. There's a clean beach right outside the B&B, shared by several nearby B&Bs. The room we stayed in was high up on the hillside, and the floor-to-ceiling windows offered a stunning view. It had the relaxed feel of a small fishing village, and the whole family loved it. It was uncrowded, and the kids could run around freely on the beach. While there was a reef area for catching seafood, it was a bit dangerous and not suitable for children, so we just collected shells on the beach. In the evening, we went to Xiangchong Fujian Cuisine, which was the best meal I had in Pingtan. Day 3: Kid Sick, Enjoying a Relaxed Dining This morning, my kid suddenly came down with a viral cold and a fever, so I rushed him to the hospital. In the afternoon, while my kid was resting, I checked out Haidaoshu. There's beach seating there. I ordered a drink, listened to the waves, and relaxed. It was so relaxing. The view was expansive, and there weren't many people. There was a little bit of trash on the beach near the ocean, but overall, it was okay. The drinks were reasonably priced, and it was perfect for taking photos. In the evening, while my kid was feeling better, we went to Tannan Bay. The previous two days had been pretty quiet, so seeing so many people was a bit of a shock. It was low tide, and the sand in areas previously covered by the sea was coarse and rough. I really don't recommend visiting during low tide. We played for a little over half an hour before leaving and grabbed some food from the food stall across the street to take back to the B&B. The food was pretty average. Honestly, Pingtan doesn't have much to offer in terms of culinary specialties. Day 4: Check-out and return trip. A warning about pitfalls. Packed up, checked out, and headed home. My biggest tip: If you're traveling with young children, it's best to drive the entire trip yourself! High-speed rail is a confined space with long periods of time and harbors viruses and bacteria, making it incredibly troublesome if your child gets sick. Fortunately, I had a flexible schedule this time, otherwise I wouldn't have had much fun. If you're traveling with children, I highly recommend the southern route. You can stop and go, rest when you're tired, and it's incredibly comfortable. What unexpected situations have you encountered while taking your children to the island? If you know of any B&Bs or hidden gems along Pingtan's southern route where you can relax and unwind, please let me know! #PingtanIsland #PingtanTour #IslandTourWithChildren #Self-DriveTour #PingtanB&B
Pingtan's weather can be unpredictable in mid-September. It might be windy in the morning, but it'll clear up in the afternoon, and the sea will return to its blue color. I've packed a beautiful windproof jacket and skirt, and my photo shoot is 100% guaranteed. However, there are a few things to keep in mind when visiting Pingtan. ⚠ Note: Pingtan doesn't have a metro system, so I recommend taking a taxi directly to your hotel. After getting off the train, look for ride-hailing services online; avoid illegal taxis! This will save you a lot of trouble. Note: For budget-friendly accommodations, stay in the county seat; the scenery and food are equally worth it! For ocean-view rooms, stay in B&Bs in Tannan Bay and Beigang Village. If you have more budget, choose a star-rated hotel with better and more up-to-date facilities. Note: Regarding Pingtan's three magical islands: Tannan Bay, Changjiang'ao, and Houyan Island, the weather is crucial. Although Houyan Island is far away, it's not far away. If you're looking for the sea, choose Tannan Bay (the beach is the finest). If you want to save money, go to Changjiang'ao (the budget-friendly option). If you're traveling with children, I recommend Longwangtou (the facilities are complete). They all offer unique beauty, so if you have time, try them all. Note: Pingtan has many night markets, and they all sell similar items! They offer everything from four-fruit soup to oyster pancakes to grilled squid, as well as island-style dresses from the scenic area. Don't buy expensive, low-quality ones! Note 5: When renting an electric scooter, always look for a legitimate operator! Don't trust street touts! The bikes might be in poor condition, and they'll try to squeeze you in more money. You might end up spending hundreds of dollars on a crappy bike. Note 6: The sunsets at Changjiang'ao are stunning, but they're incredibly crowded! I recommend two less-visited spots: the Northern Ecological Corridor and Heping Village. They're less crowded, beautiful, and perfect for photo ops. Remember to wear windproof clothing! Note 7: Besides Changjiang'ao, the sunsets at the Northern Ecological Corridor, Tannan Bay, and Houyan Island are also stunning. Wouldn't it be nice to switch gears and enjoy the sunset? Note 8: Water quality at several beaches: Tannan Bay > Changjiang'ao > Longwangtou. The only downside to Tannan Bay is the crowds and the powdery sand. Note 9: We recommend going to the county town seafood market for seafood, as it's cheaper than in the scenic area. Remember to ask for the price per unit (but shipping is expensive, so it's best to eat there). Note 10: When visiting tourist attractions, don't be fooled by outsiders into buying cultural and creative items! They're almost always a scam! You can visit the Weifushe Art Store in the county town. It's a large space with DIY products, Polaroid cameras, and many other Pingtan cultural and creative products. You won't regret it! ✅ Food recommendations: These tried-and-true restaurants: For dinner in Pingtan, we tried Wenhai Seafood Cuisine on the north line, a nostalgic Fujian folk cuisine in the county town. For seafood, we checked out "Today's Off Work" and Yucuo Seafood Stalls, which serve freshly caught seafood. For late-night snacks in Pingtan, we tried Lao Ma Zha Market Hot Pot and Wu Mei Mao Roast Duck, both of which we loved. You can enjoy Pingtan's "Shi Lai Yun Zhuan" (good luck with luck), fish ball soup, oyster pancakes, and four-fruit soup with your eyes closed! Everything you eat in Pingtan is authentic! #PingtanTravelStrategy #BeachPhotography
