My absolute favorite place, whether meeting up with friends or enjoying a good glass of wine after a walk, I feel comfortable here.
The "Waldauerle" isn't actually a restaurant, but rather a self-service garden restaurant. Although "garden" isn't the right word, as it's located on a busy street at the corner of the large "Waldau" sports grounds in Stuttgart-Degerloch, the restaurant offers an outdoor seating area with an urban flair, perfect for a get-together after work, during your lunch break, or simply for a casual and very low-threshold meeting. If you're lucky, you'll get a spot in the evening sun and might even have a view of the TV tower. The menu mainly features dinnete, something like a Swabian pinsa. The dough at the "Waldauerle" is made from spelt flour. We tried three different types of these flatbreads, all of which tasted excellent. There are various types of beer (bottled beer) in the fridge. Wine is also served. There's also ice cream and cake, and of course, non-alcoholic soft drinks. The young women who ran the "Waldauerle" that day were very warm and friendly, not at all like trained staff. We felt very comfortable.
A special ambiance, self-service, and yet the waiters brought us our food, even despite the bad weather. Very attentive staff, very good food
It's such a lovely place to stop and linger; everything is so lovingly designed. Even the dishes have beautifully chosen names, and I've never eaten such a delicious lemon cake in my life! I'll definitely be back :)
This small restaurant has a beautiful ambiance, but the service was very disappointing, or rather nonexistent. The staff couldn't handle the number of guests, even though it's a self-service restaurant. The name #walDAUERle certainly applied to our visit. After we had waited over 30 minutes for our order, two of the employees at the tables started asking what had been ordered. Both employees ignored our table several times. Only when I stood up and confronted one of the employees about the fact that he repeatedly approached the tables to our left and right, walking past our table each time, was I referred to the cook. She said we had been told when we ordered that it would take longer (but no one told us that), and she also said we would have to wait another 20 minutes for our food. After waiting another 25 minutes, we were finally allowed to pick up our food. The portions weren't big enough for the wait and our resulting increased hunger. Sure, the restaurant was full, but waiting an hour for a sandwich with au gratin is definitely too long. One of the people in our small group works in the restaurant industry and said it's usual to receive a small gift from the restaurant as compensation for such a wait, but that wasn't the case with us. After another 15 minutes, we received the first and only apology from one of the employees (the one I had spoken to earlier), saying he was sorry for repeatedly overlooking our table, but not that we had to wait so long.
