Cozy cute space lit by candles with excellent food, was the perfect place for a long wine-fuelled catchup with a friend!

Visited the Christmas Light trail only as the Castle interiors were closed due to COVID restrictions (and I have been inside the Castle several times before.) I’m surprised to read some of the other less positive reviews on this site as I thought the light trail was very effective and reasonable value for money. It is obviously all outdoors due to the current circumstances. The theming and the music and narration is less obviously ‘Christmassy’ (no Santa’s and Elves) but much more appropriate for a Castle setting that will have witnessed more traditional Christmas celebrations over the centuries. There is a Medieval theme in places with lit tents and wooden ‘thrones’ for people to sit and take photos, The coloured lighting on the outside of the rear of the main castle building and the Boathouse across the lake were beautiful. The Christmas trees are simply lit in white lights but more effective for it in my opinion.

Sake no Hana is worthy of being one of the most high-end Japanese restaurants in the area. Whether it is the restaurant environment, the service attitude of the waiters, or the taste of the dishes, they are all first-class and there is absolutely no flaw to be found.

Booked here after eating at Gordon’s Savoy grill previously and the Wellington was superb, not disappointed as the food and service was excellent, personally I liked the venue, atmosphere and the music along with a relaxed vibe, I thought it would be dressier but it was a mixture of folk dressed up and shoppers so if your looking for somewhere a bit more special I’d go elsewhere. We will certainly be back.
