Pub refurbished but food quality has suffered
Not the best experience. The beef was so tough I couldn't cut it even with a steak knife and it was so chewy I couldn't swallow it. The roast potatoes were hard and difficult to cut. The pub has recently been refurbished but seemingly at the expense of food quality.

Husband, myself and 10yo visited, without a booking on a weekday evening in the school summer holidays. The interior is very well presented, I understand from other reviews that it has received a makeover recently - it has been done to a high standard which is nice. Unfortunately we had to walk through a cloud of smoke from people sat around on the patio at the back, which I appreciate some people don’t care about, but personally we hate. The staff, albeit difficult to get hold of at times, were friendly. My husband had the carvery & was given a very generous portion of meat, so much so that he admitted defeat & couldn’t finish his plate, which is very unlike him! 🤣 He paid extra for pigs in blankets, which took an age to come, he’d nearly finished, and when they did arrive they were cremated (see photo) we didn’t bother saying anything because as I say, my husband was nearly finished. It was frustrating, as seems to be the case at other carveries - why are Yorkshire puddings considered a premium item? They’re literally pence each to make, yet you’re only allowed one?! I had a pizza, which was cooked fresh and arrived hot, great. However, I think the oven was a bit too hot, as the crust was black 😕 and the tomato sauce had pretty much evaporated. We were filled & it was value for money. We would probably return, so it’s not all bad.
