Sydney Harbour Bridge

1.3k reviews
The Sydney Harbour Bridge spans across Sydney Harbour, connecting the city center on the south shore with the north shore, and faces the Sydney Opera House to the east across the water. The iconic duo appears in almost every Sydney postcard. This steel arch bridge, completed in 1932, is majestic: its main arch spans over 500 m, with the arch crown standing more than 130 m above sea level. The approximately 50 m-wide deck accommodates train tracks, car lanes, a bicycle path, and a pedestrian walkway, remaining a vital urban thoroughfare to this day. There are many ways to experience the bridge: you can drive or take a train across it, pass underneath on a sailing boat or ferry, or choose the leisurely option of walking across. The pedestrian walkway is on the eastern side, accessible via stairs from the Rocks or the north shore, while the bicycle path is on the western side. When reaching the south shore, don't miss the tower at the southeastern corner. Climb its roughly 200 steps to the observation deck for a level view of the steel arch and a panoramic harbor vista. The tower also houses an exhibition on the bridge's construction history. For a closer encounter with the sky, join the bridge climb experience: suit up in the provided gear and follow the guide along the arch ribs to the summit. Millions have completed this climb since its inception, with each offering unique views—dawn, daylight, dusk, and night. Gazing down at the Opera House and the entire Sydney Harbour from the top is a highlight for many travelers. On New Year's Eve, the bridge becomes the backdrop for the city's fireworks display, with prime viewing spots along both shores in high demand.Sydney · 6.9km from Bondi Beach

Sydney Fish Market

7.3
4.4/5
479 reviews
The Sydney Fish Market is one of the larger seafood distribution markets in the Southern Hemisphere and a long-standing destination for locals to purchase fresh catches and enjoy seafood. It has now fully relocated from its longtime Pyrmont site to a new venue by Blackwattle Bay, featuring a wave-like roof covered in fish-scale textures that stands out among the bay area's architecture. The market's wholesale tradition continues to this day: every weekday morning, a Dutch-style clock auction begins on time, with seafood arriving overnight from the coasts of New South Wales, as well as Tasmania and New Zealand, showcasing over a hundred varieties in the auction hall. The retail area is the domain of visitors, where crushed ice displays feature Australian lobsters, king crabs, mud crabs, Sydney rock oysters, salmon, snappers, and barramundi, with the constant bustle of oyster shucking, fish filleting, and packing. The venue gathers around forty merchants, including long-established fish stalls like Christie's, Nicholas, and Claudio's, as well as small eateries offering freshly sliced sashimi, Malaysian spicy crab, and New Orleans shrimp burgers. It also features a bakery, artisanal deli, produce stand, and beverage shop. Dining here is casual: grab a plate of freshly shucked rock oysters or sashimi and enjoy it by the waterfront terrace before continuing your stroll. For a sit-down meal, there are restaurants overlooking Blackwattle Bay. If you're curious about the seafood industry, join an official behind-the-scenes tour to witness the early morning wholesale auctions or sign up for a cooking class at the Sydney seafood school to learn how to prepare the day's catch from professional chefs. If it's your first visit and you're unsure where to start, try the freshly made seafood from the deli counter first. For a more budget-friendly option, ask the fishmonger to recommend seasonal lesser-known fish varieties—they're often more affordable than star species like lobster or salmon, without compromising freshness. If taking raw seafood to go, remember to ask the vendor to add ice and pack it in an insulated bag, then refrigerate it as soon as possible.Sydney · 7.6km from Bondi Beach

Royal Botanic Garden Sydney

4.6/5
882 reviews
Royal Botanic Garden Sydney was established in 1816 and is located on the shores of Farm Cove on the eastern side of Sydney city center, adjacent to the Sydney Opera House. The park spreads along the bay, with waterfront paths connecting various themed gardens. The silhouettes of the Sydney Harbour Bridge and the Opera House follow you along the way, making it a prime spot for capturing classic photos of Sydney. Most visitors enter from the Opera House side and walk east along the waterfront to Mrs Macquarie's Chair at the end of the park. Standing by Mrs Macquarie's Chair, you get the postcard-perfect angle of the Opera House and the bridge together, which is especially photogenic in the soft light of early morning and evening. Visitors who love plants can explore further: the rose garden is fragrant during the blooming season, while the succulent garden, fernery, and herb garden each have their own charm. The palm grove area preserves old trees planted as early as 1828, and you can even find the Wollemi pine, known as a living fossil, in the garden. The glass greenhouse named The Calyx features a green wall that is one of the largest in the Southern Hemisphere, showcasing plants with different themes year-round. The park also offers ongoing cultural tours led by local guides, which cover both the plants and the history of the Indigenous people's connection to this bay. Not far from the park exit are the State Library of New South Wales and Parliament House, both of which are impressive and striking buildings, perfect for a quick photo stop. The entire park is easy to explore and perfect for a morning jog or spending half a day relaxing on a picnic blanket. Many visitors include this in the same itinerary as the Opera House.Sydney · 5.7km from Bondi Beach

Hyde Park

Hyde Park is located on the eastern side of Sydney city center. It is a rectangular green space surrounded by high-rise buildings, separated from St Mary's Cathedral by just one road, offering a quiet retreat in the bustling city. The history of this green space dates back to 1810, making it one of the oldest public parks in Australia. Today, it is divided into north and south sections by an east-west avenue, with rows of tall fig trees lining the paths. Lawns, flower beds, sculptures, and fountains are scattered throughout, making it a rare oasis for relaxation in the city center. Most of the attractions in the park have specific names. The Archibald Fountain in the north section was built to commemorate the alliance between France and Australia during World War I. The main statue is the sun god Apollo, with his right hand extended and his left hand holding a lyre. Horses, turtles, and dolphins spray water outward from various tiers of the fountain, which is also surrounded by bronze sculptures from Greek mythology, including the moon goddess, Pan, and Theseus subduing the Minotaur. Here, you can capture the fountain and St Mary's Cathedral across the street in the same frame, which is a representative photo angle in Sydney. On the east side of the boundary between the north and south sections stands a bronze statue of Captain Cook. The obelisk at the northwest corner of the north section, which mimics an ancient Egyptian style, is actually just an underground drainage vent built in the 19th century. Locals jokingly call it "Thornton's Scent Bottle," and it is often mistaken by tourists for a monument. The Anzac Memorial in the south section was completed in 1934. Its Art Deco facade is solemn and dignified, and the long reflecting pool in front of the building adds to the tranquility, providing a stark contrast to the bustle around the fountain in the north section. There are many seats under the shade of trees. On weekday lunchtimes, you can often see office workers sitting down with their meals, while weekends are full of locals picnicking, jogging, playing ball, and sunbathing. Street performers can be seen performing by the fountain from time to time. When visiting, you can start from the fountain, walk south along the tree-lined avenue shaded by fig trees, and go straight to the Anzac Memorial. The route is simple and straightforward, and it won't take long to see the highlights of both sections.Sydney · 5.8km from Bondi Beach

The Art Gallery of New South Wales (AGNSW), situated in The Domain in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, was set up in 1897 and is the most vital public display in Sydney and the fourth biggest in Australia. The display has a broad gathering of British Victorian workmanship, for example, Lord Frederic Leighton and Sir Edward John Poynter; littler property of Dutch, French and Italian painters of the sixteenth, seventeenth and eighteenth hundreds of years, for example, Peter Paul Rubens, Canaletto, Agnolo Bronzino, Domenico Beccafumi and Niccolo dell'Abbate.Sydney · 5.4km from Bondi Beach

Bondi Beach is located in eastern Sydney, with a crescent-shaped coastline embracing a bay of golden sand, and has been a beloved seaside getaway for Sydneysiders for over a century. The name "Bondi" comes from an indigenous word meaning "water breaking over rocks." It lives up to its name, as the waves here are consistently strong, and with its deep-rooted surfing culture, it is a mecca for surf enthusiasts. Lifeguards are on duty at the beach year-round, so you can swim with peace of mind as long as you stay within the areas marked by the red and yellow flags. If you want to experience the thrill of riding the waves, you can also sign up for beginner surfing lessons here. The Bondi Icebergs pool at the southern end of the beach is built right against the coast and is a popular photo spot favored by photography enthusiasts. From here, you can embark on the Bondi to Coogee Coastal Walk, where cliffs, rocky reefs, and expansive ocean views accompany you along the way. You can take a break at the Bondi Pavilion along the way. Every Sunday, the Bondi Markets open next to the beach, offering a wide array of handmade jewelry, vintage clothing, and art. If you prefer peace and quiet, consider coming in the early morning to watch the sunrise over the ocean, or simply lie on the beach under a parasol, feel the sea breeze, and experience the unique, laid-back vibe of the Southern Hemisphere.Bondi Beach · 636m from downtown

Roundabout Quay for all intents and purposes is the clamoring principle port of Sydney Cove, and the essential lane for all ship transportation. Arranged at the northern end of the Sydney business locale, the quay really is likewise utilized as a field for city festivities. It for all intents and purposes is a fairly short strolling distance from both the Opera House and the Harbor Bridge, and specifically is home to Sydney's Museum of Contemporary Art. Walk around the quay's bustling walkway loaded with eateries, shops and bistros, at that point bounce on one of its numerous ships to investigate another side of the harbor.Sydney · 6.2km from Bondi Beach

Mrs Macquarie's Chair

4.5/5
258 reviews
Mrs Macquarie's Chair is located on Mrs Macquarie's Point at the end of the Royal Botanic Garden Sydney, facing the Sydney Opera House across the bay. This "chair" is actually a bench carved out of an exposed sandstone rock. It was hand-carved by artisans in 1810 and dedicated to Elizabeth, the wife of the then-Governor of New South Wales, Lachlan Macquarie. Legend has it that she often sat on the rock, gazing out at the sea, waiting for ships from the United Kingdom to enter the harbor. Because of this, Chinese tourists have nicknamed the stone chair the "Australian Waiting-for-Husband Stone." The stone chair itself is understated; the real star is the view in front of it: the white shell roofs of the Sydney Opera House and the steel arch of the Sydney Harbour Bridge perfectly frame each other, and many classic postcard shots are taken from this very spot. Most people walk here from the Opera House side along the Royal Botanic Garden's coastal path, enjoying the tree-lined route and the sea breeze. Once at the point, you can sit on the stone chair or the nearby lawn to rest, watch ferries and sailboats coming and going in the harbor, and take your time soaking in the Sydney harbor skyline.Sydney · 5.5km from Bondi Beach

Australian Museum was founded in 1827 and is located in the center of Sydney, across the street from Hyde Park and St Mary's Cathedral. It is one of the oldest public museums in Australia and one of the largest natural history museums in the country. Its collection covers fields such as zoology, mineralogy, paleontology, and anthropology, with a total of over 20,000,000 specimens and artifacts. The collection ranges from native Australian birds, fish, insects, and shells to dinosaur fossils and Indigenous artifacts, and the museum also hosts special exhibitions on various themes from time to time. The museum's highlights are quite concentrated. The dinosaur gallery displays real skeletons and life-size models; you can pause in front of the Muttaburrasaurus unearthed in Australia or see an over 10m long anatomical reconstruction model of a T-Rex. Some fossil exhibits can even be touched. The "Surviving Australia" exhibition focuses on the unique and dangerous creatures of this continent, with specimens of giant wombats, fanged kangaroos, and the extinct thylacine being particularly eye-catching. The mineral gallery brings together nearly 2,000 minerals and gemstones from around the world, and the opalized marine reptile fossil "Eric" in the collection is a rare sight. The "200 Treasures" exhibition, hidden in the mid-19th-century Long Gallery, uses 100 precious items paired with 100 personal stories to string together the museum's century-old history. Visitors with children should not miss the interactive space on the second floor, which features an eel migration journey as its main theme where children can touch specimens and operate interactive installations. If you get tired, you can go to the top-floor restaurant to dine while overlooking Hyde Park, and there is also a cafe on the second floor suitable for families to sit and rest. After leaving the museum, you can take a stroll through Hyde Park, which perfectly completes a city cultural route.Sydney · 5.6km from Bondi Beach

I always check other people's reviews before each trip for reference and then add my own. Although it was peak season, the crowds weren't large at all, not even comparable to those in China. Just arrive 10-15 minutes before the cruise departure time; e-ticket verification is very quick. You can see the opera house, the harbor bridge, and the coastal residential areas, etc. It's definitely worth a visit!

Hyde Park is basically a free urban park. There's a fountain where you can take photos with St. Mary's Church, but nothing much to do. There's a memorial that you can visit, but it's all in English. It's suitable for taking pictures, checking off your list, or just relaxing and sunbathing. It's a place where locals stroll around, not really considered a tourist attraction.

Special exhibitions requiring separate tickets are definitely worth seeing. I only allotted an hour to the museum, but even after arriving at 1 pm, I still hadn't finished exploring by closing time. The Art Gallery of New South Wales far exceeded my expectations. Having visited the Louvre, Uffizi Gallery, and Vatican City, I didn't have high hopes for the New South Wales Art Gallery, but it far surpassed them, especially the modernist works, which were highly creative and distinctive. The museum is very large, with four floors, and you could easily spend a whole day exploring it.

Circular Quay is the beating heart of Sydney – where the iconic Opera House and Harbour Bridge create a postcard-perfect panorama that never gets old. The energy is electric, with ferries gliding past, street performers adding flair, and world-class dining overlooking the water. Yes, it's touristy, but that's because it's genuinely spectacular. Whether you're grabbing a coffee at dawn or watching the city lights dance at night, this is Sydney at its most magical. Worth the hype!

Mrs. Macaulay's Chair is really famous because you can take photos of the Sydney Opera House and the Sydney Steel Bridge at the same time near it. It is a good location for taking pictures. But when I went there this afternoon, I found that it was not right. It should be early in the morning or after 6 pm when the lights on the steel bridge were on. This afternoon, I went to the opposite Hyatt Hotel to check in. There was a super cruise ship that completely blocked the opera house. It was almost 5 o'clock and it was dangerous to see a large ship slowly passing the Sydney Bridge.

The Australian Museum is a place that showcases a rich natural and cultural heritage. The museum's exhibitions cover a wide range of topics, from Australian flora and fauna, indigenous culture to the natural history of the Earth. I particularly like the dinosaur fossils and marine life displays here, which are very shocking. The museum has a clear layout, and you can learn a lot during the visit without feeling bored.
